How To Take Over Free Republic (And Your Life, Too!)
Free Republic | May 11, 2012 | by Lazamataz

How do you take over Free Republic? You can't. You shouldn't even try,

Recently, a friend came to me with what he perceived to be the failings of Free Republic. I wrote back: "....JR is really not interested in people advising him on how to run the forum. He's had success with his own direction.......Seriously man. Don't stress this so hard. It is what it is, and you have no power over other people/places/things. Hell, you don't even have power over YOURSELF. That's GOD'S power. Just suit up, show up, color in within the lines, and enjoy what you can in the forum. You know what's off limits. So do I. I live within the boundaries, without complaint and grateful for my blessings."

It is a good life lesson, using Free Republic as the catalyst. How many of us struggle mightily against the circumstances in our life, only to find that we have made utterly no difference? Maybe we have even made things worse, for our interference. We human beings have tiny little three-pound brains. What makes us believe we know best, how our reality should be? Often, what we believe is best for us, turns out to nearly kill us. Similarly, that which we believe is horrible for us, turns out to change us, positively, for the best. It is clear we do not know what it is that will make us prosper.

Many of us live in a perpetual state of anxiety or fear, or regret or remorse. These are wasted emotions. These emotions sap your energy and have no positive effect. Regret and remorse are utterly incapable of changing the past, and since we truly cannot know what is good or bad for us, how can we profit from fear or anxiety? It is best if we leave the particulars of our lives to the will of our God, however we understand Him.

This suggestion works well for atheists, too, since all of us have a God of our understanding. Perhaps, for the atheist, their God is an impersonal and uncaring universe. It still works. Let the results be decided by someone or something other than yourself. When we stop trying to control events around us, much better things come to pass than we had ever envisioned.

This is not to say we don't participate. We do. We show up every day, and we do the next right thing. This is not to say we don't make plans. We do. We are simply willing to get out of the way should the God of our understanding have something better in store for us. In my experience, when I get out of the way of God, the most amazing things happen to me. When I try to control some things, my fat sausage-fingers manage to make it much worse.

Back to the topic of this forum: We all have directions we believe the forum should go. Yet, if we did succeed in altering the forum's direction, we might end up destroying it outright.

So, how do you take over Free Republic? You can't. You shouldn't even try.

I can tell if I wrote something well based on the number of replys. Of my last three editorials, the first one was a WIN, the second one was a LOSE, and this one was somewhere in between... closer to a win than a loss, though.

Back then, posts tended to be longer, more thematic, more prosaic. One would think very, very carefully before posting; the bar was set pretty high.

I used to poke my head up like a prairie dog and hope I didn't get it shot off.

Troobish noll is sort of catchy.

So my reply #79 got pulled.

Go ahead and tell me now that this site hasn’t been taken over by pussies.

Perhaps you crossed a boundary with the ‘p****s’ verbiage?

Your post was pulled by the moderator when someone objected to your language via abuse report. I’ve restored the post and let the moderators know that you are ok. We’ve freeped shoulder to shoulder many times and I appreciate that very much, but you’re a bit off the straight and narrow at the moment.

Thanks for the reply and the re-post Jim. I’ll watch the language more going forward. Sorry everybody for that.

I doubt it.

JR's gotta have a pretty thick skin by now.

I doubt anything you could say could phase him.

This is so obviously wrong.

FR has already been taken over before, it's clear that it's a fait accompli, an easy thing to do considering it has been done at least this one time rather than what you have been claiming. I mean, honestly, where have you been? Are you really this naive?

It's been known for a long time that the true power and directing of FR is vested in some nefarious guy named Jim Thompson......

And yes, I know I’ve been off the reservation a bit for a few weeks since the Massachusetts Mistake stole the ring.

Logically there are three ways to look at the race for the White House: 1) Indifference, 2) Prefer Obama to win, or 3) Prefer the GOP nominee to win.

I am very solidly in camp three. I think it is clear that our beloved Republic will be much better off in both the near and long term if Obama is replaced by the GOP nominee.

Other FReepers, who are also patriotic conservatives, have other opinions. May God bless us all.

But it is just a fact that there is a new, pessimistic to the point of nihilism tone here on FR. Six months out from election day and FReepers are actively promoting defeatism on every political thread. This has never happened here before and it is simply not in the tradition of Patton, Churchill, Reagan, Thatcher, Buckley, and Limbaugh.

That said, thanks again for your forbearance with respect to my loyal opposition. The revolution continues and I will see you again soon in the trenches.

It is impossible for me to support an abortionist/homosexualist/socialist for president. Either one of them. I’ll fight the evil bastards til my dying breath.

fml, you say on your about page, “This site no longer reflects conservative values.”

I have notified Jim since this is his website and thought he would want to know you post here but junk the site as not being conservative.

Since you post here, perhaps you are not a conservative since you don’t think it’s a conservative website. If you are a conservative but don’t think this place is conservative, why are you still here? Just to throw rocks which you have done on this thread?

Perhaps you didn’t pass potty training - you don’t know when to get on or off the potty?

fml is an antifreeping RINO troll. You can disregard anything he has to say.

FR is and will remain a pro-life, pro-family, small government, strong defense, conservative grassroots site, regardless of how far left the RINO led GOP tilts.

I didn’t leave the GOP, it left me.
