Tampa, Florida -- Police want your help finding four men who teamed up to beat a young U.S. Army soldier in a South Tampa street.
It was an awful welcome to Tampa Bay for a young soldier. Police say the victim of a violent beating caught on camera is 24 years old and has lived in Tampa for less than a month.

He was a soldier who was situationally unaware that he was in a combat zone, and the group ahead of him were probable hostiles.
In such a situation, the best thing to do is to increase distance (slow down and let them get further ahead, or cross the street). If they change course to intercept, then they have confirmed hostile intent, and you should be prepared to draw rather than allow them to come into contact distance, plus "check your six" for additional hostiles.
Statistically this would more likely be black-on-black crime. That is the most common thing.

It is time to aggressively go after these apes. Start with special forces planting “bait” subjects at 3am and take out
anyone with ill intent. Repeat until these feral animals are either all dead or afraid of their own shadows.

Minor note: “back to the wall first”, since it limits the hostiles from 360 degrees to first 270 degrees then to 180 degrees. Once you know your back is clear you can go dynamic again. Shouldn’t take long.
Then, if you are armed, if it is a group, a deep doorway is good to further narrow their approach, and limit any large long weapons, like baseball bats.

That’s right, will the last decent person standing still cry “no vigilantism?” Or will we wait till it’s too late? Most countries have at least a little revolution before the slide into tyranny. Looks like most folks are willing to go without a whimper.....

Nothing could have helped that kid, the attack happened so fast that he couldn't have pulled the pin on a grenade if he had one in his hand.....
He was screwed the moment his car broke down at that time in the morning......
The video evidence clearly shows that the point man in the initial assault came from the 3 o'clock position at an extemely accelerated pace, with the attack force following. All of whom were availing themselves of the natural cover being provided by the vehicle. The final assailant was clearly providing backup support in the event the target should become aware of the ambush that was awaiting him and likely prepared to launch his own assault had the victim been permitted to enter retreat mode.
I'm sure he was on full situational awareness alert but the nature of the attack, the numbers of overwhelming force involved prevented him from taking any immediate evasive maneuvers.....
And not having the advantage of any back-up support personnel, he was screwed..........
No, I don’t buy that for a minute.
At 3am on foot in a bad neighborhood, nobody in their right mind is casual, especially when one or more individuals approach them.
If you *know* you will be driving late through a bad neighborhood, you definitely arm yourself with *something*. Even a steak knife can be highly effective.
You never, ever let a stranger approach you in that type time and place, certainly not within sucker punch range. And if they try, your weapon, whatever it is, is ready.
And situational awareness is vital. You don’t walk 50 paces without checking to be sure you are not being followed, you walk to avoid ambush spots like alleys, giving them a wide berth which gives you the advantage of spotting someone “just on the other side” first.
You never neglect other people on the street, because if you think about it, what *legitimate* purpose can anyone have hanging out on a street at 3am?
This should be very basic stuff. Each and every time, because you only need to be careless once to get rolled.
it isn’t that bad...of course, at 3:00am is a different story...but yes, a mixed neighborhood, SOG City (south of Gandy Blvd)

Well, gee. Having had lots of friends (ages 15-25) attacked by gangs of thugs over the years, yet the worst any of them came out of it was “even”, call me dubious. Granted several of them were either martial artists or cowboy types, used to fighting, and their assailants were either white or Mexican, the same general rules apply.
Yeah, some innocent suburban snowflake, not raised to fighting or toughness, is going to get thumped even on Maple Street in broad daylight. Well, it sucks to be him. He wasn’t raised right.
Hopefully, a “street smart” NCO will take him under his wing and teach him how to do the man stuff. Either that or he’s going to keep getting thumped until he figures it out himself.
Less than a month on base, he probably didn't know the area very well. Lots of “pockets” of very bad areas in Tampa.
But he wouldn't have been any safer in broad daylight in south Lakeland, sitting in his parked car at a strip mall.
A couple of local high school boys got car-jacked by a gun wielding black man at the Lake Miriam shopping center, forced to pick up an accomplice across the street at the McDonalds, and then forced to drive them to Bartow...it didn't make the news, though.
I wonder if the Lakeland Ledger added it to the crime map? /s
