wo Earths would be needed to sustain human activity by 2030, report finds Report shows animal species fell 30%, wealthy countries do the most damage By Meghan Neal / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Published: Tuesday, May 15, 2012, 9:40 PM Updated: Wednesday, May 16, 2012, 6:49 AM

Planet Earth in a tight spot.

Mankind is draining the earth's resources so quickly the globe would be bled dry before the end of the century at this rate, a new report shows.

Humans are living outside their means, depleting natural resources like forests, air and water 50% faster than the planet can renew, according to the 2012 World Wildlife Fund's "Living Planet Report" released this month.

If the trends aren't reversed, by 2030 we’d need more than two Planet Earths to sustain human activity, according to the study.

“If we just do business as usual…we’re just going to continue moving in this direction. At some point, the earth’s going to just give out. We don’t know when. But that’s a pretty scary thing to think about,” said Colby Loucks, director of conservation science at WWF. “The question is, we don’t know what the tipping point is.”

According to research by the WWF the demand on the planet’s natural resources has doubled over the last 50 years, with most of the burden falling on poorer nations.

Wealthy countries can have up to five times the "ecological footprint" as low-income countries, because consumption is much higher.

In 1970 Hal Lindsey said in "The Late, Great Planet Earth" that the world would end in the '80s.

He was only referring to the music industry.

But, but... We were supposed to have destroyed the planet through overpopulation and activity back in the ‘60s. Paul Ehrlich told us so! < s/o >.

Mexico City has the highest poulation density on the planet.

There are plenty of wide open spaces in China and India. The cities may be crowded, but there is more to the planet than cities.

Much of the American west is unpopulated. Much of Russia is severely underpopulated. And that's a LOT of area.

Your statement that the earth is way overpopulated is unfounded.

It's funny how they always blame the west...even though western countries lead the way in green technologies. It's 2nd and 3rd world nations that are still polluting like crazy...showing little regard for the environment; cutting down huge swaths of forrests and killing off sharks for shark fin soup.

But have no fear. I'm sure a war here or there will knock the world's population down to a size just like WWII, Korea and Vietnam did. Imagine the population if 100 million people hadn't died in war last century.

Maybe Iran can eliminate a few million.

Seriously, I think Jesus will come back before “billions die”.

Damn that means everyone could live in Texas and the rest of the planet would be empty.

If current tax policies persist we may find out...

Funny thing is that these idiots will do everything in their power to prevent us from exploring space or using resources found there.

My favorite crisis is the water crisis.

My reply to those who say we should conserve water is "Oh my gosh, you're right. Somebody should turn off Niagra Falls!"

Hhhmmm...lets see if I understand this....we’ve discovered that nature urgently needs some type of intelligent design component steering the natural selection and survival of the fittest process????? Do I have it correctly?

So what? They’re finding new planets all the time, and the airlines are already figuring out how to get there.

God gave us the planet to sustain us and He told us to be fruitful and multiply so I will trust that He has a plan that will allow the earth to sustain as many as He sees fit to put here.

Every single person on this planet could be stood up in the Grand Canyon with a yard of space around them.

If you put all the people in the world in houses, 4 or 5 to a house, with a front lawn, sidewalk, and street, you wouldn’t need more room than the state of Texas.

The trouble with this kind of crappy science is that some of it sticks when uneducated and stupid libtards read it.

Well let’s just go out and find another planet and, like the capitalist/Imperialists we are, take it over and wipe out or enslave the aborigional population. (Do I need a sarc tag?)

Oh, I forgot, we can’t send men into space anymore...

Same here. I actually like the fact that so many have left Michigan.
