Europe, US and the world brace for messy impact from Greece
MSNBC ^ | 5/16/12 | John W. Schoen

As Greece teeters on the edge of financial collapse, European officials have a new task before them: preventing the financial turmoil from spreading across the continent, across the Atlantic and around the rest of the world.

The fear is that Greece’s financial turmoil could spread beyond its borders despite European efforts to create a “financial firewall” to contain it.

“The spillover effects, the chain of consequences are very difficult to assess,” said International Monetary Fund President Christine Lagarde on Wednesday. “We can certainly assume that it would be quite messy.”

How many countries will be forced out?

If they force anyone out (assuming a treaty with no force out clause is able to force someone out), the EU will have to impose dictatorial and sovereignty restrictions on those that remain.

Of course others may exit themselves.

Why worry about Greece any more? Based on election results from France and Germany, voters are going to go through a leftist hissy fit and drive all of Europe’s economy into a ditch to avoid paying their bills.

This should have happened a long time ago.The Greeks lied to gain membership in the EU,what they’ve done between then and now is fraud and extortion.

That’s a really stupid thing to say.

It may play well with the ignorant but is otherwise just crap.

Pointing at California is like pointing at a smoking shed through the window of your house while it is on fire all the while worrying about the shed burning down.

The Federal government is Greece. It is destroying our lives. California is a piker in comparison and you know it.

EVERY NATION LIED to make the EU. All the nations lied on the theory that socialism would make it work and the new aristocratic inteligencia was smarter than everyone to make it work.

If Greece goes then any country can go by mere vote. This means the euro falls appart and is no more.

keep greece and keep the eu, lose greece and lose the eu.

Methinks it will be more of the same old same old. The EU will once again give Greece just enough money to kick the can down the road a little bit. But as proven in the past, it will not change the final outcome, only make it worse when Greece finally goes under for the count.

So the dollar is inflated by propaganda for yet another summer. Fill up those tanks with government debt. Who knows? Next year, money might not be so chased into US treasuries from Europe and wherever. It might not even be moved from stocks to bonds. See the country views. Might be your last chance.

"Pointing at California is like pointing at a smoking shed through the window of your house while it is on fire all the while worrying about the shed burning down."

Who's worrying about that? Remember all of the well-wishing from residents of other states for a great earthquake and landslide? ;-)

“EVERY NATION LIED to make the EU.”

Including Germany and France? You sure about that?
