The fine is just a way of getting TAXES from the parents/taxpayers without the benefits of representation. Period.

This is criminalization of commerce by regulation. These are the first fruits of totalitarianism whereby the state oppresses the subject through unknowable rules.

the school didnt realize that there was another machine in the school bookstore that wasnt being turned offHow was a drink machine sneaked into the school bookstore (school bookstore?) without the knowledge of any relevant school officials?
Not that the regulation isn't idiotic beyond belief, but still ...

Federal law requires the school to turn off its soda machines during the lunch period, which is 47 minutes a day. I can see if this had been at my relatively conservative country school back in the 1980's. Most of the teachers would have announced, "Snack machines being shut down in 15 minutes for lunch, anybody that wan't to grab a coke for lunch take five and get it now!"

If the school is a federally run institution, then you have the government sueing itself. So instead of sending the money to the school they can just keep it and it goes into whose pocket.

$15,000 fine will force cut in Fine Arts program??? Why not cut it from the administrators budget since they were responsible to shut off the machines.
That’s right, there is no way to cut their budget or teachers union budgets.(Sarcasm On)
The fine is ridiculous but at least punish those responsible. I don’t think the Band or Choir is responsible to unplug soda machines.
To: grundle
And when the food police realized it, the school was hit with a $0.75 fine per student for the duration of the offense. $15,000.00 Fine. 20,000 Students?
