I’m concluding your definition of “violence” is ... wanting.
The Sargent-at-Arms you refer to IS using violence. That’s his job: using, and threatening to use, violence to persuade people to comply. Per the point of this thread, violence DOES solve problems, it can & is authorized in society and law for problem-solving ends, and is legitimate behavior under some conditions. “Law enforcement” works precisely because police et al are equipped and trained in the use of violence, using the threat thereof to convince the non-compliant that the state WILL win any escalation. We don’t say your Sargent-at-Arms needs a “restraining order” because he is _authorized_ to apply such violence under conditions pursuant to eliciting compliance.
Enforcement IS violence. Hence the root word “force” therein.

No, violence is inflicting harm upon another, irrespective of law. Enforcement is lawful application of violence to bring another into compliance.

True. I’d probably lean toward doing some nice work on the barrel (good, and legal, of course, length for accuracy, crowning, etc.), bolt, trigger, ergonomic furniture, handloads and the like, and see if it could be made more accurate. But then I’m an older has-been, who derived pleasure only from tinkering and the like—not so much into zombie movies or end-of-the-world reveries. Actually, Shelly never explained what happened to my sort-of namesake. Since the poem was supposedly set in Egypt, his successors probably just chiseled his name off the monuments and added their own.
Killing and murder are not the same thing when it comes to soldiering...if that were the case, Christ would have told the soldier to desert his ranks and become a pacifist.
As for the wages, the dictators of the time already knew that in order to keep their armies in line and loyal to them, they had to keep promising them ever larger wages and larger percentages of spoils and slaves captured. Poorly paid soldiers were often tempted (and did,) in certain circumstances to commit war crimes(real murder) to supplement their incomes and often their officers would over look such atrocities(especially if the officers got a share of the loot.) That is what Christ was referring to and I think he had a real bead on what those soldiers may have been up to, or perhaps a bead on something they had been planning!
There was also the Centurion that demonstrated a faith not found in all of Israel.
Until Christ returns.....there is no peace.
Just a simple fact that pacifists seem to deliberately ignore, because, well, they are not peaceful.
