Boehner backs 'Eduardo Saverin Tax'
The Daily Mail ^ | 20 May 2012

House Speaker John Boehner has become the latest politician to attack Facebook billionaire Eduardo Saverin for ditching his U.S. citizenship to avoid paying tax.

Speaking on ABC's This Week, Mr Boehner labelled the move 'absolutely outrageous' and said he would support legislation to stop wealthy expats relocating to dodge tax.

Mr Saverin, who pocketed more than $2billion when the social-networking site listed on the stock exchange on Friday, could avoid paying hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. taxes after he relocated to Singapore.

How does he intend to stop people from leaving the country? Besides the guy already doesn’t live here.

We’re becoming more like the former Soviet Union with each passing day.

this is bullsh!t...

if you renounce your citizenship which he did last september, and are worth $2 million or more, your total assets are treated as if sold the day before expatriation, and tax is due on the assessed market value

that would include his Facebook shares

Of course. The solution to driving taxpayers away with confiscatory tax rates is to kill them.

Speaker Boehner is on the wrong side of this issue. There is no benefit that the United States government provides to Eduardo Saverin that can justify its siezure of tens of millions of dollars from him. Saverin is just the first of many Atlases who will shrug off such a ridiculous burden - and the only answer that Neo-Bolsheviks like Chuck Schumer, Bob Casey and John Boehner have is to erect a new Iron Curtain to imprison successful Americans and impound their wealth. All they are proving is that Saverin is right.

I will not be surprised in the not-so-distant future when the Feds deny wealthy people the right to leave the country and renounce their citizenship.

What the feds send troops to grab you in Rome (or where ever) and drag you back to the US and force you to live here? How just does that work?

Sounds like a Bill of Attainder. They seem to be targeting it at one individual. I thought the Constitution prohibited bills of attainder.

Sorry, Crybaby Boner.....it’s called “his right”. There’s spit you can do about it, and frankly, I don’t blame the kid one bit.

He earned the money; you didn’t. Deal with it. Guess you’ll just have to continue pissing away other peoples’ money, instead.

Wow. So the concept here is you are not free to exit the American tax system.

I guess that is ok with the 47 percent of Americans that pay no taxes.

Those that pay taxes should be able to say goodbye when the taxes become too much.

Why does the Government continue to ASSUME they have the RIGHT to EVERYONE'S money?

I guess they need it in order to facilitate the continued "SPENDING."
