Boehner backs 'Eduardo Saverin Tax'
The Daily Mail ^ | 20 May 2012

House Speaker John Boehner has become the latest politician to attack Facebook billionaire Eduardo Saverin for ditching his U.S. citizenship to avoid paying tax.

Speaking on ABC's This Week, Mr Boehner labelled the move 'absolutely outrageous' and said he would support legislation to stop wealthy expats relocating to dodge tax.

Mr Saverin, who pocketed more than $2billion when the social-networking site listed on the stock exchange on Friday, could avoid paying hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. taxes after he relocated to Singapore.

When I left NJ, I sold my home. It was my first home. On my way out, I had paid Jersey 2% of deed. I bought a 3 story walk up in ‘da ‘hood of the yet to be gentrified section of of Hoboken, NJ in ‘96. I sold in 2009. I paid 140k, sold for 500k(lots of sweat, and some blood equity ). I paid 10k to move to Atlanta, jawja. Best 10k liberated from me of my life! Lets go Rangers!

If republicans had a spine..”

Just one of the many body parts this particular group of people seem to be without. Boehner just doesn’t get it. Even if we had zero tax this is this guy’s money and he has every right to do with it as he wishes. I can guarantee you that with very few exceptions if the money belonged to any of our so-called Republican politicians they would also cut and run and Boehner and McConnell would be leading the way. Their only obstacles for a quick exit would be all the Democrats ahead of them.

You mean Boehner actually believes the guy has no right to change his citizenship?

Politicians like Boner don't "believe" anything. They only pretend to "believe" whatever it is they conclude will play well in the Washington fishtank they've been swimming in for far too long.

What bothers me is the abject stupidity. The GOP as a whole could take this issue, run with it and make great hay. i.e: "SEE WHAT OUR CONFISCATORY TAX POLICY DOES." Huge political milage.

Instead, he plays the part of the "reasonable" douchebag that needs to be liked.

I totally agree with your sentiments. IMHO, my US citizen is priceless, as much it would would hurt to suck that tax pineapple, I would. Then again, I enlisted to take part of the wars of ‘90s. It’s his choice, and glad he will be gone. We don’t need him.

The problem as always is that no one understands the facts. Savarin has lived in Singapore for the last three years. He is not picking up and moving in order to avoid taxes as the articles seem to convey. Secondly, he will be paying a 15% exit tax on all his Facebook assets both realized and unrealized, so all he is avoiding are taxes at higher rates, if the democrats are able to raise rates and if Facebook stock goes above 38 which it may or may not do. But if he were to give away some stock to charity, he would never pay any tax on that stock. In other words, he might pull a Buffet. And don’t forget, if he were to remain a US citizen, he could look forward to the government wanting to confiscate 55% of his wealth, when he dies. So Schumer and Boehner are just as evil and maybe more than Savarin.
