Dog hunting!! That’s horrible, they probably don’t taste anywhere near as good as venison.

arrested Friday on charges of unlawful taking of doe deer, discharging a firearm from a public roadway and felony trespassing by projectile.

Trespassing by projectile?
That's a new one on me!

The penalty for a serf hunting on the Kings land is death.

My dad, who grew up in the depression and lived on a farm, said some people ate the bark off the trees (those not on a farm). He never saw a deer during the Depression—and still 3 million starved to death during this time.

note: From some of the photo’s of the 16 year old child, I am wondering if they have his age wrong. He looks much older and bigger than the average 16 year old.

Have had as many as five deer in backyard (off and on) for over two years. I look at this as God saying, if worse comes to worse, the meat is provided. Have not pulled the trigger. Has been tempting. Have walked within twenty feet of several grazing.

G. Gordon Liddy used to talk about this often on his radio show. His first FBI posting was in rural upstate New York where there were lots of people so poor they relied on poaching to feed their families. Back then the authorities apparently had the good sense to look the other way.

It would be a whole lot easier to raise rabbits than go driving around looking for deer to shoot.

If the man’s story is true, leave him alone. Many game wardens known when to look the other way. Especially when the deer populations are out of control.

“arrested Friday on charges of unlawful taking of doe deer, discharging a firearm from a public roadway and felony trespassing by projectile.”

that’s ridiculous. I don’t even understand WHY he needs to explain himself to any authority for taking car of himself/family in this fashion.

I remember reading some years ago of a state with a surfeit of deer, and basically a year around open season, where a charity was set up so that when a hunter bagged one, he could make a phone call for the charity to pick up the carcass.

They had fine tuned it so much that the hunter could even take a steak or two before they took the rest. The end result was that the homeless got to eat a lot of venison.

When I was just a boy we moved to a Northern CA county, we were poor and it took a while to get things to a point where we could eat regular. We killed deer out of season. In our county there was a game warden who knew just about everyone, when he caught a poacher he knew the ones that needed the meat and the ones who did it just because. He would never jail a person who was just feeding his/her family(yep, there are some female poachers(hunters))but would run in anyone he thought were just shooting them for sport our of season.

As I became an adult he was replaced(he died)by a guy who went strictly by the rules and would jail anyone for killing a deer out of season, by that time my family didn't poach, as we didn't need the meat to survive. If this guy really needed the meat, he is welcome to it in my opinion.
