Washington, D.C., becoming a 'Mormon stronghold'
Deseret News ^ | May 16, 2012 | Joseph Walker

The stunning expansion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Washington, D.C., area is profiled in a long, interesting and meticulously accurate CNN story that suggests "the nation's capital has become a Mormon stronghold, with Latter-day Saints playing a big and growing role in the Washington establishment."

-SNIP-

"It's hard to point to federal legislation or a White House initiative that bears distinctly Mormon fingerprints," Gilgoff writes, "while it's easy to do the same for other faiths." He cites as an example a recent White House "compromise" on contraception funding, which he says was "mostly a reaction to pressure from Roman Catholic bishops."

Both lds and islam threaten your soul, which eternal. Do I know anyone who was told convert (to lds) or die, nope.

Which means that if I don't want to convert to LDS (and I don't want to), I won't be forced to do such at the point of a gun - or killed if I refuse.

Nice job trying to downplay that fundamental aspect of religious freedom with the rest of your statements.

Please show me a Mormon, over the last fifty years, threatening a Christian that they have to convert to Mormonism or die.

You wanna limit the time frame? Then I'll limit geographical boundaries: Please show me a Muslim, in the United States of America, threatening ANYBODY that they have to convert to Islam or die. (Name them)

(Last I heard...people in the United States don't have much spiritual control over what religions & religious people do in other countries do, right?)

You said in a reply to me:

I said:

Do I know anyone who was told convert (to lds) or die, nope.
Do I know people who were told either convert or be shunned, yep.
Do I know people in lds that were told leave lds and you will die, yep.
Do I know people that tried to leave and died, yep.
Again, however you keep talking about overseas not the US.
If Romney were running for president of the world your points might be relevant, he is not, so its not.
Romney is running in the US, so his belief system is important as it is with anyone who is running for office.

I ask:
What?
What in what I said has anything to do with religious freedom?

No anti, you said Ann Romney is going to hell.
Jesus was clear about our souls and what needed to be done in order to spend eternity with God in Glory.
If you have a problem with that take it up with Him.

#1...get a grip on spiritual reality...ALL of us...no exceptions...have had a time in our lives where we were hell-bound...(Oh, and guess what? Some FREEPERs still are...none of us has "the list" on all who's who)

#2...All who are hell-bound don't wind up there...elsewise, applying #1, NONE of us would have a "course change" and we'd ALL wind up there!

#3...You being upset about Ann Romney being hell-bound means that you make yourself out to be a sovereign prophet that she's not? Are you prophesying before the entire world right now that Ann Romney can't wind up in hell? Upon what authority do you speak?

#4...See Romans 9:1-4 about the apostle Paul's thoughts about his fellow Jews being hell-bound...

This statement has EVERYTHING to do with religious freedom:

Do I know anyone who was told convert (to lds) or die, nope.

The rest don't. And you posted them to downplay the fact that Mormonism can co-exist with religious freedom and Islam can't.

I know you will pretend otherwise now.

You are saying Ann Romney is going to Hell!

So, it's fine with you that every day 52,000 mormon missionaries are knocking on doors and telling people that unless they join the mormon church THEY are going to be placed in a low "mormon kingdom" and kept from the presence of God?

We are grateful for the 52,225 full-time missionaries serving in more than 150 countries.16 The sun never sets on righteous missionaries testifying of the Savior mormon church. Think of the spiritual power of 52,000 missionaries, endowed with the Spirit of the Lord Joseph Smith, boldly declaring that there is “no other name given nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come … , only in and through the name of Christ. mormon church temple rituals

"My young brethren of the priesthood, I testify of the majesty, but most of all, of the certainty of this magnificent event. The Savior lives. He will return to the earth (the Second Coming) . And whether on this side of the veil or the other, you and I will rejoice in His coming and thank the Lord that He sent us to earth at this time to fulfill our sacred duty of helping prepare the world for His return the mormon theocracy

."other people, who may not yield full obedience to his laws, nor be fully instructed in his covenants, will, nevertheless, have to yield full obedience to his government. For it will be the reign of God upon the earth, and he will enforce his laws, and command that obedience from the nations of the world which is legitimately his right” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: John Taylor [2001], 225).

Preparing the World for the Second Coming-LDS.org, April 2011

Anyone who believes that Romney isn't fully immersed in this doctrine and the Law of Consecration is a fool: The Law of Consecration is considered by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be a "celestial law." That is, people who are living lives dedicated to the service of God, such that at judgment they would be assigned to the Celestial Kingdom, should be able and expected to live the Law of Consecration. The Law of Consecration is that, if necessary or requested, a person would give everything he has for the building up of the Kingdom of God on Earth. He would be willing to wholeheartedly give of his time, talents, and resources. Thus, the person is "consecrating" all his personal resources to the Lord.

“The law of consecration,” said Elder Bruce R. McConkie (1915–85) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, “is that we consecrate our time, our talents, and our money and property to the cause of the Church; such are to be available to the extent they are needed to further the Lord’s interests on earth.” Mormon Temple Covenants

So, because, you won't answer the Q I asked you: Are you a prophet and upon what authority do you preach that Ann Romney can't wind up in hell, you resort to personal attacks -- "hate crazed pig." "shyster lawyer" "Psychotic."

Is this the way you treat ALL strangers? (Or just me?)

If I was to come to your door, would your mouth go off like firecrackers there, too?

Hum?
So, shunning is not a way to manipulate people against their freedom - ok.
Do you do your mind reading tricks at fairs or just birthday parties? Seems like it could be a good part time job.

Islamists are already fighting the freedom to criticize their prophet in this country. They are fighting efforts to block the use of Sharia Law in this country. Do you HONESTLY think that if they assumed power in this country, that they would NOT try to force conversion to Islam?

If so, you are more deliberately ignorant of Islam than I thought possible. You have staked an absurd position and will engage in all kinds of idiotic twisting to avoid confronting your own contradictions. I notice you didn't answer a basic question from another poster, so I'll ask it again - where would YOU rather live, Salt Lake City or Cairo?

Nobody on this forum, or in my long recollection of this forum, posts more Anti Mormon material, or goes to greater lengths to tie it in to anything they can. Hate crazed is fair!

We find it hilarious that you mormonism defenders get your underwear in a knot about the posting of factual mormon doctrine from mormon sources by a few dozen FReepers in light of 52,000 mormon missionaries spreading their propaganda.

Your straw man post is ludricous since it appears you don't want US to have the right to state OUR experiences and beliefs.

FAIL!

No one is being kept in the LDS faith at the point of a gun, and lots of religious groups shun members who stray. It's up to the INDIVIDUAL whether they choose to let shunning affect their FREE CHOICE in this country to change their religion.

Folks in Muslim countries don't have that kind of freedom from fear of persecution or death.

For your enlightenment, the material postings exposing mormonism come from their (lds) writings, their history, their videos.......how just is that anti-mormonism?

Mormonism defender? I am nothing of the sort. I'll ask the question again - do you think those 52,000 Mormon missionaries should not be allowed to proselytize door-to-door?

Your straw man post is ludricous since it appears you don't want US to have the right to state OUR experiences and beliefs.

I am challenging some of the positions being taken on this thread by you and your co-horts. The folks I see avoiding simple, direct questions are on your side.
