BANGOR, Maine A US Airways jet flying from Paris to Charlotte, North Carolina, has been diverted to Maine because of what an airline spokesman calls a "security issue."
A North American Aerospace Defense Command spokesman says two F-15 fighters were scrambled to escort the plane.
A person briefed on the incident said a passenger announced she had a surgically implanted device. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because it involved sensitive law enforcement information.
US Airways spokesman Andrew Christie says the jet with 179 passengers was diverted around noon Tuesday to Bangor International Airport. He says there was a "security issue" on Flight 787.

Three fighter jets buzzed me as I was driving over a bridge a few years ago. They came in flying low up the sound, pulling up at the bridge that I was crossing, then shot over the bridge and streaked up into the air. Navy fighters, what a show! I had a great view as I had the top down on my convertible. lol
my luck would have been in looking up, forgetting where was and hitting the bridge or a vehicle. Love those formation flying episodes.
My dad was USAF Captain (Medical doctor) stationed there 1960 - 1963.
As a kid I well-remember the contrails during the 1962 Cuban Missle crisis!
FReegards!
I recall reading a news story a few years ago about a guy with limited english-speaking capability who complained about needing to use the bathroom during the unallowed time and being in danger of “exploding”, who caused a similar incident.
If that is true some heads need to roll at TSA!
it either fizzled, or it was such a breech of security that the Odungo team and Napolidiot need time to make up a story

I never knew. So appreciate Freepers educating Freepers. Thank you.
Think of the carbon footprint by diverting a flight from scheduled route, the inconvenience to passengers and crew, the debriefings, reams of mind numbing paperwork.
If practicable, the miscreant should have been ejected from the plane, at 25,000 feet. You just _know_ the entire plane would have erupted in raucous applause. It’s way past time to stop messing around with these clowns.
“It might if they wanted to hijack the plane and not just blow it up.”
As I understand it, they gas up these planes to get to the destination with a near empty tank. (landing is much safer that way)
It kind of limits where any hijacked plane can go...
I saw that episode. That show is so fake it’s ridiculous.
I know. The show’s a trainwreck that’s hard to look away from when there’s nothing else on the boob tube.
Hmm a boob job implant explosive. How would the TSA check for that? I see a possible career change.

Do you really want to go to BANGor if you think you might have a bomb? And on Boeing jet. The same sound Wile E. Coyote hears from his current invention before he crashes
“An actual terrorist threat would not involve announcing that one has an implanted device, imo.”
But now the terrorists know how prepared we are and how we will handle implanted bombs. And only one person has to go to jail, pretty cheap compared to a plane.

On several occasions, decades ago....I had to fly out of Charleston AFB...and of course, we stopped in Bangor every single time. The excuse was that we just wouldn’t have enough fuel. After the 707’s were all retired, that was the end of any halts in Bangor. They made a ton of money off the airlines for years and years. Today? I doubt if they have more than six planes a year make unscheduled stops there.
