Christie Is Not One of Us
National Review ^ | 26 May 2012 | Andrew C. McCarthy

Posted on 05/26/2012 6:44:58 AM PDT by LSUfan

Chris Christie is so not one of us that articles like “Christie Is One of Us” — a new contribution to the genre, from National Review’s Noah Glyn — are churned out regularly as the governor’s smitten admirers, from Ann Coulter to NR staffers, labor to convince us of what they’ve convinced themselves of: that an ostensibly gruff, internally milquetoast, progressive-lite, pro-Islamist Republican must be the second coming of Ronald Reagan because he has managed to make a basket-case blue state marginally less of a basket case. And “marginally” is the operative word. Glyn’s valentine to Christie is unfortunately timed. It was published just as Moody’s declared that Christie’s claim to have put New Jersey’s fiscal house in order is grossly overstated.

I do not understand the reason for Christie’s rabid support. He’s outspoken.... big deal. His positions revolving around personal freedom seem tepid at best to me.

“you can fool some of the people all of the time.....”

Many Freepers were fooled last year about a possible Christie run even after many of us were pointing out the facts and just in similar fashion, many ate fooled about Rubio just because he makes good speeches

Creeping Islamicization of America is one of our most pressing problems. If Christie fails here, it’s hard to accept him as the “best that NJ can do.”

Yeah...but isn't that essentially what a bunch of FReepers on here are trying to do with Mitt Romney?

Whatever good Christie has done taking on the municipal unions he is undoing with this disgusting love of jihad, jihadism and jihadists.

What good does it do us to control the power of the teacher’s unions if we transfer a bunch of that power to sharia courts?

Christie is a Useful Idiot for the muzzies who just happens to have done a few good things on the fiscal front for NJ.

I hope if our "gal pal" Coulter reads this, there are no sharp objects close by.

I don't CAIR care if it were the Gipper (Reagan) ANYONE who is sympathetic, appeases, defends or is otherwise apologetic/supporter of Islamists (as opposed to Muslims) will/would never get my support and is NO "Conservative."

The northeastern elite(Rockefeller wing) have control of the GOP, I hope it’s the GOP’s death knell because these people are not conservatives.

Are you suggesting not voting
We got Clintoon because of statements like this - were you around with Ross Perot?
Alas - here is an example of why history repeats...in my humble opinion...
True change comes from within - so to be successful lets go to the local caucuses - the local conventions, then the state conventions then the National conventions and make a change - not withhold - or put your head in the sand.

Chris Christie goes berserk when criticised about appointing a Muslim judge:

“Sharia Law has nothing to do with this at all, it’s crazy!” he cried. “The guy is an American citizen!” He concluded that the “Sharia Law business is just crap… and I’m tried of dealing with the crazies,” adding with disgust and frustration that “it’s just unnecessary to be accusing this guy of things just because of his religious background.”

NO THANKS!

In a place like New Jersey, Christy is a raging conservative.

Perhaps he represents the start of a movement that will incrementally move state governments from the far left to the center and, hopefully, back to traditional constitutional status.

We need to take over the Republican National committee. The two liberals representing Michigan on the Committee were voted out last week.

All it takes is a couple hundred dedicated individuals in each state. There were only about 2000 people total at the Michigan convention.

I live in NJ. I do not recall CHRISTIE ever claiming he was a Conservative. He is a Republican and they are NOT the same thing as all of you well know. That said were he a REAL Conservative he would have had NO CHANCE to get elected in NJ and had that happened MY RE taxes would have gone up instead of GOING DOWN and in surrounding towns remaining static.

He has balanced the budget as he said he would do and without State tax increases. Local taxes are NOT his responsibilities and to avoid prop tax increases many towns laid of unnecessary workers. Anyone have a problem with that? Good CEO’s know when to cut back and in bad times such as now people lose jobs, too bad but that’s the reality.

I would love to have a super Conservative like Walker as my Governor but in this State he would not get elected at this point. He is light years better then Corzine was and the thing to do is accept Christie as a great improvement and then work for ever stronger Conservatives which is a possibility if the numbers here continue to improve.

He’s not one of us and neither are those who keep trying to foist him on us. He’s over in Mayor Bloomberg territory on firearms, and that’s just one area he’s way off.

I wouldn’t say that Christie has rabid support.

A lot of people love to listen to him speak because of his confrontive and amusing style.

Don’t know how this author came to know that Christie is inwardly passive? Must have insight to the inner workings of Christie’s mind that are in no way shown on his outside demeanor. That is just a journalistic trick.

Christie has done a good job in New Jersey. Most conservatives in the state like him.

He’s not conservative enough for the rest of the country, maybe, but is that any reason to denigrate him for what he HAS done.

But that’s what rabid so-called conservatives do, isn’t it?
