If I get nuked, that's ok. And if you don't like my manners, ma'am, that's ok, too.

Everything important that I had to say on the thread is still there.

Including the fact that I think David Dewhurst shouldn't be elected to the US Senate from Texas, and that I damn sure think that anyone outside of Texas should have a say in the matter if they haven't had to deal with the.....person as Lt. Gov.

You’re not going to be nuked! My goodness...just because there were a few posts removed, that doesn’t mean you will be banned.

“Including the fact that I think David Dewhurst shouldn’t be elected to the US Senate from Texas”

If you will look upthread, you will see that I said you are totally right, and that Cruz is the best man for Texas...which means he’s the best for this country.

Go to bed, and reread this thread tomorrow.

Dewhurst has solid support from Austin, very deep financial pockets and IMO is one of the major reasons we ended up with Strauss as Texas House Leader. It would appear that his election staff is largely responsible for all the attack ads coming out about Cruz. We have had no real Conservative senatorial representation from either Hutchinson or Cornyn in a long time. Now that we have an opportunity to partially rectify that situation I hope everyone will vote for Cruz in the runoff. In the meantime I fear it is going to get very, very ugly.

I expect so.

Ugly already. I'm thinking mountains and peace and quiet were better.

RINO Rick likes Dewhurst.

Read the DMN article about Dewhurst. He hit the Lotto when he found out about the co generation law.

A big surprise in Texas, Silvestre Reyes of El Paso was defeated in the primary. The district was once competitive, but isn’t usually now. Businesswoman Barbara Carrasco is the GOP nominee. Maybe she can win over some Reyes supporters, as he and O’Rourke visibly disliked each other.

I didn’t see the need for the comment in question, either. But that seems to be the way it is these days: Conservatives being rude to conservatives. And then pretending that those who notice are whiners.

I know Cruz is a good guy and a conservative, but I confess to not knowing jack squat about Dewhurst. Is he bad? Is he a squish? Or, could conservatives live with him if he ends up the candidate?

He's trying to strong arm potential Cruz donors by saying that he's not going anywhere if he loses. Dewhurst would still be Lt. Governor for another session and probably would run for and win the governorship in 2014. If a Cruz donor wants any legislation passed, Dewhurst won't help.

“The district was once competitive,”

Was it?

I think it’s too far a leap now.

Still it’s nice to see a rat who thought he had a job for life go down. Sadly though he’ll get a new cushy job as a lobbyist. I think Charlie Stenholm went with the horse meat lobby. I wonder what Reyes will choose.

The GOP has only won the 16th just one time, and that was in 1962 when Ed Foreman upset incumbent J.T. Rutherford by a margin of 54-46% (at the time, Foreman was only 1 of 2 GOP House members, the other being Bruce Alger of Dallas — and 50 years later, both Alger and Foreman are still alive). Both Foreman & Alger got swept out in 1964 because of the LBJ landslide. Foreman lost to Richard White, 56-44%. Foreman would, of course, move across the state line to Eastern NM and 4 years later win a House seat there (the only person in the modern era to have successfully accomplished that — although he would lose reelection in 1970).

Only 1 GOP challenger received more than 40% of the vote against White (in 1976) until his retirement in 1982. Democrat Ronald Coleman would succeed White, and he did face a few competitive races (1982, 1984, 1992 & 1994). His closest race was actually not in 1994 (which would be his last) but in 1992 when he barely beat Chip Taberski by a margin of 52-48% (less than 5,000 votes), due in part to his involvement in the “check kiting” scandal (673 bounced checks, the 9th worst offender). He would beat a Latino Republican, Bobby Ortiz, 57-43% in 1994 (in a low turnout race).

Unfortunately, once Reyes succeeded Coleman upon his retirement in 1996, the GOP wrote off the district (indeed, Reyes first won it that year with 71%). At first, Reyes “seemed” like he might be a moderate, perhaps even semi-Conservative member, but that went out the window. The strongest performing candidate since was his 2010 challenger, Tim Besco, who got 37% (a Libertarian got 5%).

Reyes becomes the first incumbent to lose renomination in the district since J.T. Rutherford narrowly defeated Ken Regan in 1954 (and in those days with no viable GOP, that was the only way to take down an incumbent).

Normally, I’d write this race off, but perhaps this year is the exception. Sylvestre Reyes was defeated by a controversial opponent. Beto O’Rourke’s past history includes arrests for DUI and burglary. There is a video of him dancing and falling down while singing karoke in a bar.

http://youtu.be/4Nz2k6J7J-4.

I’m amazed that O’Rourke was able to win. I can only conclude that Reyes had really overstayed his welcome. The Republican nominee is Barbara Carrasco, an El Paso businesswmoman. Perhaps she can win, like Blake Farenhold won in 2010. Stranger things have happened electorally.

Your thread has turned into a personal Texan bar brawl.

The Admins should simply delete the entire embarrassing thread and let you start over with a re-post.
