U.S. will put more warships in Asia: Panetta

The United States will move the majority of its warships to the Asia-Pacific in coming years and keep six aircraft carriers in the region, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said on Saturday, giving the first details of a new U.S. military strategy.

Speaking at an annual security forum in Singapore, Panetta sought to dispel the notion that the shift in U.S. focus to Asia was designed to contain China's emergence as a global power.

He acknowledged differences between the world's two largest economies on a range of issues, including the South China Sea. …

Some Chinese officials have been critical of the U.S. shift of military emphasis to Asia, seeing it as an attempt to fence in the country and frustrate Beijing's territorial claims.

Panetta's comments came at the start of a seven-day visit to the region to explain to allies and partners the practical meaning of the U.S. military strategy unveiled in January that calls for rebalancing American forces to focus on the Pacific.

The trip, which includes stops in Vietnam and India, comes at a time of renewed tensions over competing sovereignty claims in the South China Sea, with the Philippines, a major U.S. ally, and China in a standoff over the Scarborough Shoal near the Philippine coast.

The South China Sea is a flashpoint but, with about 90 percent of global trade moving by sea, protecting the teeming shipping lanes in the Indian Ocean and the Strait of Malacca is equally vital. …

War is like the weather. Man has no control over what God created to warn us of our sin. We always sin. War is our punishment.

Poor little Chileana Snookie, she has to realize that most girls and women in Asia are a lot prettier than she ever was...and we must protect them first!

One of the stupidest things I've ever heard. How convenient for the sinning civilians that troops have to die on their behalf, as "punishment" from a god, for sins they did not commit!

I’m not a civilian. God is “never” spelled with a lower case g.

In case you didn’t notice there are 10 to 1000 times more “civilians” killed in war than soldiers.

“How convenient for the sinning civilians”

Death is never convenient. You james are a knee jerk Idiot.

I meant the American (or Australian) troops who are sent to the front on your (civilian) behalf, while you party on home side, genius.

10 to 10,000 times of you (civilians) didn’t die for this war compared to those who actually wielded the gun and went to the battlefield, for your sake.

Also, if your god (note lowercase) is a dealer in collective punishments for the sins of a few, it (note pronoun) is a false god. It does not matter whether 10 or 10,000 die. If among those even a single one was innocent and undeserving of the collective punishment through war, and your god could not discriminate to spare them, then that would be the hallmark of a false god’s impotence.

Have a wonderful day pondering over this.

Carriers project power, submarines project fear of the unknown. The rest is eye-candy.

But I prefer the bikini shots if this thread is going to get hijacked.
