The soda measure will be introduced on June 12 at a New York City Board of Health meeting. The board is expected to pass the mayor's measure, following a three-month public comment period.

"Public comment period" is just a sick farce.

The proponent is already rejecting arguments against it...and the Board is expected to approve no matter what.

If Bloomberg keeps stuff like this up, I think NYC is going to crack....and it won’t be pretty.

Hey Bloomberg .... have you noticed that some evil people are selling foot-long hot dogs. A little irresponsible, wouldn’t you say ?

“that’s a lot of soda”

Yes it is, but it’s none of his or government’s business. Individuals have the right to make their own decisions and government should do only what it’s supposed to do.

It has less to do with sugar than it does with the nanny state. Whether we consume too much sugar or not is not the province of government period.

I expect him to ban pre-marital relations in addition to homosexual behavior because it is proven that these “choices” spread disease, increase cancer risks and are mentally unhealthy.

"Nanny Bloomberg": The NYTimes Centerfold

‘Nanny Bloomberg’ wears dress in full-page New York Times ad

"Critics of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will relish opening a copy of Saturday’s New York Times.

The paper will feature a full-page color ad of Hizzoner wearing a dress, under the banner “The Nanny.”

The ad, paid for by the Center for Consumer Freedom, targets Bloomberg for his health-related proposal to ban the sale of sugared soft drinks in servings larger than 16 ounces."

Yes...the smoking ban was bad. I still oppose it. It is a violation of property rights. And I’m a non-smoker.

And, now, look at the precedent it set.

IMHO, the major soda producers should simply stop shipping/selling their products and sponsoring charities and events in NYC.

Yes, it would cause a little dip in their bottom line, initially, but they're going to take a bigger hit when every other mayor in the country follows Bloomberg's lead knowing there are no consequences.

Some might object that move would be "punishing" the people of NYC, but they're the ones who installed this monster in the first place.

And Bloomie has a lot more money than he needs.

And a lot more dachas.

And a lot more armed guards.

And a lot more Armani suits.

Unconstitutional pat downs and now soda bans? And for the privilege of this you pay an $8.00 toll to enter the city.

That’s why I don’t go there. Enjoy your city Mayor pompous ass .

When you willingly live on a tiny island with millions of people, this is the kind of crap you get. After 9/11, when Giuliani said something like “We’re all New Yorkers today”, I thought, “I’m not and never will be a New Yorker.” because I would never submit to their lifestyle.

He can pass whatever he wants in NYC, but when they bring that law to the south, I think the south will finally rise again! We like our big drinks down here.

whats to prevent any retailer from offering free refills on
the 16 oz. size? Or f’instance paying 1 buck for a 16oz.
drink, and your next drink is 1 cent?
The whole thing is so unenforceable and stupid I cannot
even believe it....
Maybe if the mayor would stop paying the health care costs
for diabetes and cardiac disease people might start “paying”
attention to their diets instead of “paying” inept
gov’mint workers to watch out for them. Win on gov’mint
interference, win on state/city budgets, win on bloated
government workforce, win on health...And you would have
more money to spend on gooooood foooood..How’s that
New Yorkers?
