Our final poll in the Wisconsin gubernatorial recall election comes after an impressive debate performance by Democrat Tom Barrett who may have saved his best for last. The highlight for many viewers was when Barrett took beleaguered Republican Gov. Scott Walker to the woodshed for airing a very tough ad that displays an image of a severely beaten child who later died of his injuries, suggesting that as Milwaukee mayor, Barretts police department didnt consider it a crime. In reality, the person who beat the child was arrested but escaped prosecution through a bureaucratic blunder not of Barretts doing. Barretts outrage was punctuated with this zinger: I have a police department that arrests felons. He [Walker] has a practice of hiring them. That line, of course, refers to the ongoing John Doe investigation that has resulted in the arrest of a number of Walkers former aides for their alleged role in embezzling funds raised to help veterans and their families. (You can read the details of that investigation here.)
So, as fireworks continue to explode over the political horizon in the Dairy State, we asked 1,570 likely voters who they support in the June 5 election. Here are the results.Poll type:: Automated Date: 6/3/2012 - Participants: 1,570 Likely Voters - Margin of Error: ± 2.5%
Walker | Barrett | Undecided | |
---|---|---|---|
ALL VOTERS* | 54.10% | 41.56% | 4.34% |
Those surprising results would project at a 56-44 final win for Walker. HOWEVER, while Walker continues to lead Barrett, we once again caution readers that this is an extremely difficult election to predict. Turnout is king in all elections, and it may be even more important in this one. Wisconsins labor movement is keen to get as many of the anti-Walker voters to the polls as possible and have displayed the ability to rally their troops effectively. And Wisconsin regulations allow Election Day voter registration with a minimum of residency documentationsomething that has both sides whispering of potential abuse from their opponents.
Too many polls have been conducted showing Walker in the lead (even Barretts own poll shows him trailing) to disbelieve the sentiments displayed in the results. But Walkers continuing problem with the John Doe investigation and a bit of swagger among his supporters couldpossiblykeep some of them home. Then again, Barretts aggression that he displayed in the final debate may have come too late.
At any rate, it may be appropriate to say that there could be no winner in this electiononly a survivor.
You can bet they won’t go quietly into that good night!
“1. Dems will call for recounts, either in certain places or state wide.
2. Democrats will go to the courts to delay or protest.”
Fortunately, those tactics won’t work in this case as he’s ALREADY Governor! It’s not like they can prevent him from being seated while they recount, go to court, etc. Same with the others who are already seated.
There won’t be any need for a recount. Scott’s going to kick his ass!
I have nothing to get over...I clearly want Walker to win. If it’s a 12 point thumping of the Dems, that is outstanding because it means it was probably closer to 15 or 16%.
Exactly.
It’s just to drag things out and force the state to spend more money. They blame all the expenses on him anyway. I never said these tactics were rational. They will do them anyway.
I did not mean for you to get over it. My statement was aimed at all the union thugs.
If the yard signs are any indication, “the thumb” will hand Barette a 30-40% drubbing locally.
...and we'll take the 7 point win for sure!
Probably means it was more like 12 points anyway.
They openly commit fraud by busing people from out of state and the MSM looks the other way. Walker’s win was by at least +9. This augurs very, very well for Novemeber. Obama is out.
I agree it bodes well...but I am taking nothing for granted. We have to get out the vote massively to:
1) Overcome their obvious and assured fraud.
2) Send Obama packing on a rail made up of an overwhelming and embarassing defeat so that like Mondale, the name Obama will be a political parriah in this nation.
