Conservatives and Romney work at working together

Conservatives at the core of the Republican Party are coalescing behind likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney faster than expected...

"I'm going (to support him) because it's my responsibility and, frankly, almost anything is going to be better than Obama," said Steve Troxel, chairman of the Lynchburg Republican Party in swing-state Virginia.

"The emerging consensus among conservatives is that the Republican House will lead the conservative charge and Romney will be in the White House to sign bills, rather than advance his own agenda," said Republican consultant Matt Mackowiak, who supported Texas Gov. Rick Perry in the primary. "Conservatives don't universally claim Romney as one of their own, but they appear to have united behind him, perhaps reluctantly, but without question."

By your definition, Santorum, Gingrich, Bachmann, Palin, Cain, Coulter are NOT conservative, because they are supporting Romney against Obama.

So, when has Palin actually endorsed Romney? Specifics please...

"I was just thinking that this morning, reading an email from a Christian conservative friend who happily has convinced himself that Romney will be just fine because he's made it clear in debates that he won't support activist judges or pro-abortion legislation.

Don't worry, Romney promised!"

You're not alone. When politics comes up and I bring up Romney's record, or the leftward direction of the Republican party, the discussion stops. People don't want to hear it.

Romney is not a liberal. I wish people would not insist that he is.

Don't say I never tried to help you...

Mitt Romney’s Dismal Governing Record

"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.

* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.

* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.

* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.

"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.

In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

[Cato Institute annual Fiscal Policy Report Card - America's Governors, 2004.]

Romney's "accomplishments".

1. Implemented/created Gay Marriage in MA

2. Supported and forced Gay Adoption in MA

3. Supported Abortion wholeheartedly

4. Raised taxes/fees over 300% while being Governor of MA

5. Implemented a state-level Cap and Trade system.

6. Supported Man-Made Global Warming

7. Supported the Brady Bill

8. Implemented a state level “Assault” Weapons Ban after the Federal AWB was allowed to expire.

9. Supported TARP

10. Supported Amnesty for Illegal Aliens (Citizenship for those already here)

11. Supported McCain-Kennedy (Amnesty)

12. Implemented a socialized medicine in MA called RomneyCare complete with an Individual Mandate and $50 abortions.

13. Nominated 27 Democrats (out of 36 nominations) for judgeships in MA, many of them extreme left-wingers.

So, in your world “logic” is believing someone who says one thing and does the exact opposite. Okey-dokey.

Just to be sure what i told you, it isn't a case of wanting Obama to win ~ it's a recognition that the NUMBERS are not on Mitt's side.

To believe Mitt can win you have to believe these things:

(1) That you can get 62,000,000+ Votes (the most any Republican has ever gotten) without overt support of the Social Conservatives.

(2) That Obama can actually lose 15% of the vote he got in 2008 ~ and he got 69,000,000 votes!

That's the task. It is best done by a candidate who can ATTRACT some Democrats (e.g. unemployed youth) and also ATTRACT all the Republicans.

You cannot win as a Republican by rejecting the support of major factions affiliated with the Republican party. That does not work.

Emerging consensus?

Who else said that?

History says that this guy has it backwards. A Republican congress will pass a lot more of Romney's leftist agenda than it will of Obama's.

On ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE alone, the GOP COULD have won.

So who did the GOPe pick? Why, none other than Mr. RomneyCARE.

And by all, I mean all of you who are typing in from another dimension.

Romney is not liberal.

Obama is evil.

I’m voting for Romney. Don’t waste your typing fingers, you may wear them out and then where would we all be?

I see no joy, no happiness, no optimism.

It’s really sad to be you all.

Glad I’m not.

Romney is not liberal.

As bad as he is, at least he is not a lying, True Blue fraud and hypocrite who acts holier than thou to true conservatives on this site while trashing this site and it posters on an anti-freeper site.

I estimate maybe 30 freepers who take turns posting anti-Romney stuff and sucking all the joy out of the universe.

There are far more people who disagree with you but don’t want to get caught up in fighting with people who have no interest in reason.

Guilt is a funny thing....and I think Romney probably has some of it for being so weak on some issues. That may make him do better or even over compensate and swing far right, which would actually help the country.

“I see no joy, no happiness, no optimism.”

The truth isn’t usually pretty. Romney’s a left-winger, and Obama’s a communist. Ugly truths, but truths nonetheless.

You people have to be smoking some strong dope to continue to believe that Romney can get 15% of Democrats to not vote exactly the same way they did in 2008 WHILE trying to campaign without a Conservative candidate.

The Democrats, given the choice of voting for a real Democrat or Democrat pretending to be a Republican will vote for the real thing every single time.

This is competition among broad coalitions ~ not mano y mano stuff. The Democrat factions that are part of the Democrat coalition know who they are and why they vote the way they do. If they are given no rational reason for changing they won't.

Obama had 69 million votes last time to McCain's 59 million votes. Unless the Mittbots can come up with some magic ju-ju somewhere, that's where we're are at ~ in a seriously losing situation!
