Conservatives and Romney work at working together

Conservatives at the core of the Republican Party are coalescing behind likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney faster than expected...

"I'm going (to support him) because it's my responsibility and, frankly, almost anything is going to be better than Obama," said Steve Troxel, chairman of the Lynchburg Republican Party in swing-state Virginia.

"The emerging consensus among conservatives is that the Republican House will lead the conservative charge and Romney will be in the White House to sign bills, rather than advance his own agenda," said Republican consultant Matt Mackowiak, who supported Texas Gov. Rick Perry in the primary. "Conservatives don't universally claim Romney as one of their own, but they appear to have united behind him, perhaps reluctantly, but without question."

I have a hard time understanding people who want, or seem to want, Romney to lose.

It’s a simple equation. If Romney loses, Obama wins.

Who among us could possibly want that?

Yet some seem to.

Remember, 2008, Obama got 69 million. McCain got 59 million.

I choked back my bile and voted for McCain. I'm not wasting my vote that way again.

You don't get it. Romney *is* a liberal, a stealth democrat. What's "best" is for him to get out of the race entirely and make room for a real conservative. That would guarantee a November 2012 success. But if he doesn't get out, and somehow actually wins the election, then "yes", the best thing that can happen is that we only have to suffer under him for four years before he hands the reigns on a silver platter back over to those democrats who aren't in stealth mode, so we can *try again* to run a real conservative as a republican four years later. And, HOPEFULLY, during his four years in office, Romney doesn't damage the republican brand so badly that we lose the Congress in 2016 -- which is a genuine and entirely horrific possibility. Romney, in one foul swoop, can undo all the good the Tea Party has brought over the last three years. This is chess, not checkers. If you want to win in the end, sometimes you have to sacrifice the Queen in the middle. I'd happily toss Romney from the board.

Sarah Palin hasn’t, officially, endorsed Mitt Romney, yet.

Not officially not yet but here’s her words from back in Oct.
We’ll see.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1011/65264.html

Asked if she will support the GOP nominee, Palin told
Levin: “I have confidence in that. I look forward to
supporting our nominee. … The right candidate will be
elevated that will be our nominee. We’ll be able to get
behind that person and make sure that Barack Obama is
replaced.”

Comments after the AK caucus in March where she voted
for Gingrich

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57392024-503544/sarah-palin-casts-vote-for-gingrich-at-alaska-caucus/

Palin also said in the interview that while she will
support Romney if he is the nominee, “To be brutally
honest...he’s not garnering a lot of that enthusiasm right
now” because Republicans are worried he is only winning
because he has more money than his rivals.

Romney actually has a far better chance of winning than the two hopefuls who were left standing, or sort of standing, at the end of the primaries.

Both Santorum and Gingrich would have been far easier to beat than romney.

Romney is not a liberal. I wish people would not insist that he is.

He’s perhaps not a total tea party type but everything he has said and done since I’ve been paying attention to him has been satisfactory to me.

You can call the sky red all you want to, but it’s still blue.

No, we want them both to lose. Badly. An absolutely humiliating defeat for them both. We want the grass roots of America to wise up. Rather than choosing which poison we want to drink, Romney or Obama, I want us to set the kool-aid aside for once. I want folks to stop voting "against" something and to start voting "for" something. I want to take a step toward a return to our Founders' vision rather than just talking about it and kicking the can down the road.

But if America isn't ready for that yet ... if things haven't gotten that bad yet ... if the sheople are still willing to drink from the cup handed to them ... then, "yes", let's at least be poisoned by our opponent rather than the "friend" who claims to be one of us.

The sky is blue and Romney is a liberal. Compared to my friends and neighbors, who are generally conservative republicans with a mix of well intentioned old school democrats, Romney is an *extreme* liberal. He's pro-corporate-bailout, pro-healthcare-socializing, pro-baby-killing, pro-gay-advocating, pro-gun-grabbing, and pro-government-growing. He was so obviously not a conservative that he could not even beat McCain in '08; McCain who is not exactly a bastion of conservative viewpoints himself. In fact, he was a third-place loser! The only thing that has gotten better about Romney over the last four years is his ability to smoothly flip flop and tell people what they want to hear. He's a fraud. And the sky is still blue.

Frankly, anyone who says Romney will be pushed to the right the above is either a moron or a liar.

There, fixed it for you.

I have never defended Romney on FR or anywhere else. (There is no “anywhere else” for me. I only post on FR.)

I mostly just attack Obama.

But I do feel free to say “that’s interesting” when someone posts an article.

I understand your opinion, have read it many times on many threads, and respect it completely.

I would never criticize anyone for criticizing Romney.

In a way, if Romney wins, all pretense that there exists a party in opposition to the liberal agenda disappears. In a sense ... "we're all democrats now". We are witnessing the republican party devolve into the democrat party.
