Conservatives and Romney work at working together
Google News/AP ^ | June 9, 2012 | Laurie Kellman, AP

Conservatives at the core of the Republican Party are coalescing behind likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney faster than expected...

"I'm going (to support him) because it's my responsibility and, frankly, almost anything is going to be better than Obama," said Steve Troxel, chairman of the Lynchburg Republican Party in swing-state Virginia.

"The emerging consensus among conservatives is that the Republican House will lead the conservative charge and Romney will be in the White House to sign bills, rather than advance his own agenda," said Republican consultant Matt Mackowiak, who supported Texas Gov. Rick Perry in the primary. "Conservatives don't universally claim Romney as one of their own, but they appear to have united behind him, perhaps reluctantly, but without question."

Exhibiting the time-honored MO of Romney shills on FR as they have appeared on this forum since 2007:

On the other hand, the Obamabots around here trying to persuade conservatives to stay home or vote third party to help Obama win ....

A flat-out lie. Romney folks, like all liberals, have to LIE, mislead, and deceive in order to get people on their side.

People, BEWARE. Come halfway through 2013, what you voted "against" will no longer matter. The ONLY thing that will count will be what you voted FOR. I will be voting FOR helping limited conservatives in Congress. In the presidential, I will do that by voting third party to weaken the victory of whichever anti-conservative wins -- if you vote for Romney, you may be voting "against" Obama, but you are voting FOR anti-conservative leadership of the Republican party.

Innovative, you intellectually-dishonest person, my third-party vote will no more "help Obama win" than it will help Romney win.

What it WILL do is to help weaken the mandate of whichever anti-conservative guy, Romney or Obama, gets the White House.

Lurkers, readers, all, please consider all the warning signs of doing "wrong" in order to make a "right." See my tagline.

Mine will primarily be to put and keep conservatives in the house and senate. We've already lost the white house so I may as well vote for Virgil Goode instead of encouraging the GOP to continue doing the same old stupid crap.

We put the RINO in-keep his feet to the fire ...

I'm sorry ... and have unicorns with rainbow-colored torches doing it! Dat's de plan!

What if Romney wins by a landslide?

How hot do you think those torches would be?

GR_Jr., you are echoing the same "pick your poison" mentality fed to the sheople from grade school through college these days. How about we try something different? How about we throw the tea in the harbor? We may not be guaranteed a victory, but in the image of our Founders we might just earn it. Choose abstinence over both herpes and AIDs. Pick a candidate you can vote *for* rather than subjugating yourself to the ones presented to you. Refuse to drink the kool-aid.

For the good of the economy, the good of our defense and to keep more whacked-out liberals from holding lifetime appointments on the bench, we need Romney no matter how much we disagree with his social and religious views.

Hugh Hewitt, a great Right Radio talk show host, had me sold on Romney back in '06 or '07. Then I started looking at Romney's record, listening to his speeches, and reading his op-eds.

Your argument would make sense if it didn't entail installing a whacked-out liberal Republican with a confirmed, documented, solid, in-office record of advancing the liberal agenda on five fronts, including judicial appointments.

To me, any rational conservative understands that this isn't about Obama vs Romney, it's about authoritarian statism vs limited government conservatism. The only way to advance limited government conservatism is to weaken the authoritarian statist president. To me, any rational conservative will vote to do that.

“True conservatives” want to give Obama a second term. Anyone who doesn’t want Obama to have a second term, is not a “true conservative”. That’s the definition for some...

So I take it you've been a pretty solid Romney guy for many years. Am I correct?

I'll be proud to be part of that 5 to 10% just so we can all be on the same side again, with the same goal of undoing what Obama and the rest of the Socialists / Communists are doing. It's better to be genuinely united in our efforts rather than enduring all the infighting as some of us in the party try to steer others in the party toward the Right when that is clearly not at all their personality.

Having observed the personality of the typical Romney grassroot type, that personality is quite distinctly likely to turn back at you, so-real, and inform you that ...

... you are just having a temper tantrum, acting like a child. Wanting to teach everybody a lesson -- taking your marbles and going home! And you probably hate Mormons down deep.

THAT is the "personality" of the faction resisting our efforts to steer them toward the Right. They think we are motivated the same as children, petty and sullen -- and that they are the wiser, more mature adults holding us back on our crazy ideas of limited government in the model of the Constitution.

That is exactly how Romney's presidential administration would treat conservative Republicans: like errant children.

ABO is a strategy such that the better it succeeds, the greater the degree of buyer's remorse. Romney is a liberal. LOOK AT HIS RECORD.

I didn't want to be a barber anyway. I wanted to be... a lumberjack!

Leaping from tree to tree as they float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia! The Fir! The Larch! The Redwood! The mighty Scots Pine!

The plucky little Aspen! The great limping rude tree of Nigeria!

The smell of fresh-cut timber! The crash of mighty trees!

Ditto, FRiend, and mutual -- I truly do understand the principle behind a conservative who cannot vote for Romney.

..... But to have ANY conservative wishing and hoping for democrat control is just beyond any sense whatsoever.

Speaking for myself, it doesn't make sense because it's not what I'm wishing and hoping for.

Only a lunatic would wish for democrat control -- or liberal statist control. I am wishing and hoping that this election turns out so that whichever guy wins, is as minimized in his control as possible. Zero mandate, in office even though most voted against him, defensive, and weak. That's the best favor we can do for the limited government conservatives that, there's a very good chance, will increase in Congress.

Stop making sense. You might kill the Obama Hysteria fueling the ABO Titanic:

And, HOPEFULLY, during his four years in office, Romney doesn't damage the republican brand so badly that we lose the Congress in 2016 -- which is a genuine and entirely horrific possibility. Romney, in one foul swoop, can undo all the good the Tea Party has brought over the last three years. This is chess, not checkers. If you want to win in the end, sometimes you have to sacrifice the Queen in the middle. I'd happily toss Romney from the board.

Big huge BUMP to the top.

In a way, if Romney wins, all pretense that there exists a party in opposition to the liberal agenda disappears. In a sense ... "we're all democrats now". We are witnessing the republican party devolve into the democrat party.

In any other year, that’s a decent argument but this year we have to choose to defeat Obama in any way possible. Even 1/4th of a conservative is better than zero.

Try all you want to convince me otherwise but you’re just doing Obama’s bidding by doing it.
