So what is Russia’s end game?

In part it could be because Syria, along with Lebanon and Iran are among the last few well-heeled purchasers of Russian arms, aircraft, etc.

And that is big business that brings foreign currency to Russia and helps keep their arms industries running.

They also comprise one of the last foreign areas where Russia has an international presence and influence.

That is nothing. Just wait until they deploy the Russian Land Battleships.

They are threatening NATO and the UN and europe. Russia wants Assad to prevail. NATO wants Assad to step down. Russia does this little display of force to make it clear they will not allow any intervention in syria by NATO, the UN, or any EU forces.

And just what is the turning circle on that? (In miles or kilometres - I can convert)

Because Russia doesn’t have many naval bases and one is in Syria.

Looks like Russia and China are going to give Syria and Iran confidence to start a war against Israel and get whipped again.

Read the historical text in the image. Actual image is larger. Very funny stuff. They built three of them.

If there is anything I hate, it's time traveling Russian pre-dreadnoughts.

Onward to Tsushima and victory!

“Russia has no battleships. It does have 3 modified Kirov class cruisers, which are arguably nuclear battlecruisers. I say so in defference to their tonnage (20,000 tons) and missile armament of 20 Granat antiship (carrier killer) missiles, and 96 SA-N-6/S300 antiaircraft missiles. However, they only have one 130mm (5.2 inch) cannon. They also have 3 Slava class cruisers with 16 anti-ship missiles and 64 SA-N-6/S300 antiaircraft missiles. However, these are the size of our Ticonderoga Cruisers and of World War 2 cruisers”

Wow, and to think two or three Drones would put it at the bottom of the Ocean. Now that is perspective.

FYI - They may have never actually built that Russian Land Battleship. Was an experimental design only. The historical text was apparently created by the illustrator. That is why it is so funny.

Yeah, that image meant to be a joke.

Any Sov tank at that time capable of holding up a German armoured division would have been a KV-1

There was a KV-2, which is probably where the makers of the image got the idea,
but that was a special purpose tank for use against fixed fortifications, carrying a slow firing 152mm howitzer. Against armour, it would have been quickly overwhelmed.

And the supposed fates of the "KV-6"s are exactly what you might guess from looking at the picture.

I don’t think anyone really knows what’s going on.

Perhaps Russia is trying to make a move while they still have a sucker to deal with-—Obama.

Obama started all this crap in the Mid-East with his Arab Summer, it sems that Putin intends to finish it.

Correct. Before the Arab Spring we had anti-American, anti-Semite regimes that posed no great threat to the United States. Now we have Anti-American Anti-Semite regimes that will cooperate with those that will try and harm the United States.

That really worked out good for us /sarcasm.

A Lebanese Christian I know said this about Syria. "Those Bast---s have been killing each other forever. I hope they all kill each other." His opinion is far more rational than our foreign policy.

So what is Russia’s end game? Protect Syria from Israel, or get rid of Assad for their own purposes? Help me here, I can’t get my arms around this one...

They'd like to keep their port in Tartus
