Marco Rubio says he would come to the U.S. illegally if he had to
ABC News ^ | June 19, 2012 | Chris Moody

Hypothetically, if Marco Rubio were not an American citizen and could not provide food for his family, he says he would cross the border illegally to come to the United States.

While discussing immigration policy in his new memoir, An American Son, Rubio called for "common decency" in dealing with undocumented immigrants and said that if put in a similar position as those who are fleeing destitution, he would break the law, too.

"Many people who come here illegally are doing exactly what we would do if we lived in a country where we couldn't feed our families," Rubio writes in his book, which went on sale Tuesday. "If my kids went to sleep hungry every night and my country didn't give me an opportunity to feed them, there isn't a law, no matter how restrictive, that would prevent me from coming here."

This is the racial mindset of modern American politics. No courage to explain that illegal immigration is a bad thing for our country, for any country, period. Just pandering to the World’s poor.

So then, let a couple billion Chinese in, another billion Pakistanis and Indians. After all, if you lived poor in those countries you’d want your family here.

Oy.

Rubio apparently forgets that true conservatives dislike the politics of racial grieveance -- that includes when the GOP plays that card. He focuses on this issue far too much; something he doesn't seem to realize.

You really should educate yourself on this issue.

Part of this insanity is the attitude that America is the only country in the world. All of these people have their own countries, yet we act like we would be putting them out into the void. They have their own country, this is not it.

I could have understood saying you understand the actions of others. But wouldn’t it be a bit more noble to say you WOULDN’T live that way? Otherwise, I guess every poor person in the world just about has an obligation to sneak their family in here.

Even if I were poor in my country I’m not sure I’d sneak my family in somewhere illegally. It’s a horrible, unpatriotic mindset and a disservice to BOTH countries.

It’s no use arguing with these nuts. They hate hispanics. They claim not to, but I’ve read enough of the anti-immigration threads on here to know that those denials are just so much self delusion. Thankfully their ranks are small...they’re loud but few.

What about the Kenyan?

We're now living in a new phase in America. If a Kenyan can get away with it, so can a Cuban.

It will remain that way until John Boehner and all the others are convicted for their failure to uphold the oath they took and they are sent to prison.

We're ALL American citizens now.

Donald Trump was right

being Cuban that’s basically a moot point since current law makes you legal once you get a foot on dry land

Rubio has come out from under the eligibility or ineligibility rock as it probably is to show true feelings about illegal immigrants. The heck with abiding by laws or burdening the people of the USA who are legal citizens, some of whom have earned their citizenship the old fashioned legal way. Where is the dedication to our Founders Constitution to form a more perfect Union etc. by these illegals? Instead they rally for La Raza. Why do our ‘leaders’ not recognize that that the problem is not just a one sided humanitarian problem of individuals but some thing is drastically wrong when any nation works to have it’s citizens taken care of by another nation’s citizens. I and my brother who was killed in WWII were sons of immigrants. We were taught in a parochial grade school and on that the USA was indeed the Nation to work at aspiring for ourselves and for that ‘perfect Union’. We had our own feelings about anyone such as we being dedicated to some other nation. Perhaps such feelings don’t fit with today’s ‘feely-goody’ environment.

immigrants and illegals are two separate issues. Immigrants helped build America. Illegals help tear it down.

I know by the rules of multi-culturalism and PC a prole white man such as myself is supposed to patronize clowns like Rubio and exalt him for some tenets of ideology or some such rot, but I myself am tired of his Hispano-racism shtick. He is a manufactured entity.

“Heard this joker on Hannity yesterday”

Hannity always mocks Chris Mathews for the thrill up his leg that Obama gave him. Well, Hannity gets a thrill up his leg that Marco Rubio gives him. Hannity has an obvious man crush on Rubio. It makes me sick!

"...if I'd been born in some third world hell hole and had an opportunity to bring my family here...legally or illegally..I would do so without hesitation!"

This is the most profound paradox of the illegal immigration issue. Third world hell holes are the product of a blatant disregard for the rule of law. Those that come here illegally generally do so precisely because we are (or at least have been) a nation of laws, but they expect us to blatantly disregard the ones that govern their behavior.

Keep your piehole shut Rubio..

Why should they shut up? Let em talk.
Let’s hear their truths.
The Republicans are not conservative or Republican.
The curtain has been pulled back and we are seeing who they ALL really are.

In my frame of reference if Rubio really had a concern for the public’s take on eligibility he would very respectfully admit to his and Obama’s birth similarities. Would/could probably avoid a lot of people calling for court wisdom.

In this area he has no disregard for the rule of law. Statements like this become a hammer that the liberal media uses to bludgeon conservatives with. What he could have said was “I understand why people want to come to America by any means necessary, and I may have been tempted to do so myself. However, it must be done properly within the framework of our laws.”
