Marco Rubio says he would come to the U.S. illegally if he had to
ABC News ^ | June 19, 2012 | Chris Moody

Posted on 06/19/2012 5:55:13 AM PDT by raulgomez05

Hypothetically, if Marco Rubio were not an American citizen and could not provide food for his family, he says he would cross the border illegally to come to the United States.

While discussing immigration policy in his new memoir, An American Son, Rubio called for "common decency" in dealing with undocumented immigrants and said that if put in a similar position as those who are fleeing destitution, he would break the law, too.

"Many people who come here illegally are doing exactly what we would do if we lived in a country where we couldn't feed our families," Rubio writes in his book, which went on sale Tuesday. "If my kids went to sleep hungry every night and my country didn't give me an opportunity to feed them, there isn't a law, no matter how restrictive, that would prevent me from coming here."

Another RINO with no respect for the rule of law. Adios, Marco!

I appreciate the sentiment but you are probably talking about Willards VP pick...like I said on another thread...wait and see.
The GOP-e got Rino Romney and now they want Rino Rubio.
They believe they have the moderate/Democrat lite vote and do not need the conservatives.
Anyhow, they’re looking at the next 16 years of RINO rule.
While we are all worried about the next four month.

“He is NOT qualified for the presidency, therefore, he is not qualified for the VP spot either.”

Absolutely correct!

Article XII of The Constitution of the United States.

“.....But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States......”

Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of The Constitution of the United States

“No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”

The unemployment rate in Mexico is less than 5% if that tells you anything.

Third world hell holes are the product of a blatant disregard for the rule of law.

And that disregard for the rule of law is perpetuated by those at the top. Not those at the bottom. And, I hate to say it, but it's also aided and abetted by most, if not all of the developed world. By some warped sense of duty we continue to send foreign aid in the form of money, equpiment and food to these hell holes. None of which reach the people we ostensibly wish to aid...rather it all goes to the ruling oligarchies and their armies and other cronies, while their populations continue to starve.

I beleive in the rule of law and know that our adherence to it is one of the things that has made this country great. But the law should be tempered with mercy and compassion.

Every storm cloud has a silver lining.

I am glad to see Obama’s unconstitutional Dream-Act has prompted Rubio to speak out and show his true colors on the issue of illegal immigration.

Hopefully this will stop all the foolish, poorly thought out talk about him being a good, conservative candidate for VP.

When it comes to illegal immigration, Rubio is about as conservative as Geraldo Rivera.

I wish Dick Chaney would run now that he’s got a new heart.

Dick Chaney is every bit as much of an illegal alien panderer as Rubio or any of the GOP-e, including da Bushes. He would grant amnesty in a heart beat (no pun intended) if he could. He is a bona fide New World Order, Globalist, Statist, CFR member, big Socialist gubmint, regulatory proponent. I recall reading a comment from Dick Chaney how he was laughing about needing to downplay his CFR connections when he was at home in Wyoming.

We are sadly lacking legitimate conservative, staunchly, pro-American, patriotic politicians & leaders in this country. It would be refreshingly a change if we could ever find such a creature, at least once before our country is destroyed for good. Especially one who was sharp & bitingly articulate in order to fight back against the inevitable vicious attacks against him or her. I think such a candidate would get 60% of America's vote.

Being an anchor baby does not make you a Natural Born Citizen.

I knew that and my point was regarding the anchor baby issue only. I should have clarified that. As far as Rubio goes I agree with you. Rubio does not appear to be eligible. I'm not sure about Romney.

On this one, quite frankly, you're lost in space. I've been here for 14 years now and I haven't seen one post on this forum trashing Cubans for escaping Cuba to come here against our immigration laws.

Not very long ago American policy distinguished between refugees from communism - & those in imminent danger at the hands of their governments, and economic refugees.

Simply wanting a 'better life' wasn't grounds enough to receive priority consideration for entry.

That has changed very recently. As a result, we have millions of people here who think that while they owe this country nothing, the country owes them everything. Many who don't even care for their host very much. And they vote. The policy change has been an absolute disaster.

I saw him on Fox News this morning.

Maybe he shouldn’t have made that statement, but I agree with him.

I would come to America also if my ancestors hadn’t done it for me.

Why not? Apparently, it’s easy.

Who’s talking about closing the borders now?

By the way, they also said on Fox that Rubio is not underconsideration for Romney’s VP.

The U.S. is a country of Immigrants, this is a fact. However, I believe that it should be pointed out that the U.S. is a country of Immigrants who carved a country out of sweat and toil. Those who built this nation asked for nothing but the opportunity to succeed. Those who are illegally coming to the U.S., and have been for the past 40+ years, have NO interest in adding anything to this country. Instead, in large measure, these people are STEALING from the taxpayers of this country and sending ginormous volumes of money to their countries of origin. And, a sizeable number are involved in all manner of nefarious activity (drugs, sex slavery, murder, etc).

If the issue was purely one of people coming to the U.S. to escape the subjegation of their home country I might have a level of sympathy for their plight. But, just how are the problems created by the wholescale theft of this nation's resources, by illegals, get addressed if all that our current "government" does is provide these people with blanket immunity and grant them defacto citizenship? Obozo is nothing but a self-serving, self-agrandizing, narcissistic, jack-booted thug IMHO.

"If we accept Rubio we give Obama a pass."

This is what I believe is the single factor behind the rise of Rubio in the media. It gives Obama the cover he needs on the eligibility issue.

Even the libs know this is going to be a big problem with Obama both for his reelection and his "legacy". They need to set a president by pushing for Rubio. If Rubio gets elected then it will muddy the waters for Obama. If not Obama will eventually be publicly proven to be the fraud that he truly is.

Those that come here illegally generally do so precisely because we are (or at least have been) a nation of laws, but they expect us to blatantly disregard the ones that govern their behavior.

<><><<><

Really, you think the typical illegal crossing the border has really given it this much thought?

Starve or go to the alleged land of milk and honey. I can’t imagine the thinking process includes much more than that.

A great part of what makes (to be honest used to make) the USA great was the laws set forth in the Constitution.

I cannot help but think that our former greatness can only be diminished via a flood of people who think just because they have it bad, it is OK to violate our laws and sneak into the country like a thief.

Mexicans are, in general, good hard working people with a few negative attributes which should be addressed before coming here. Speak English and obey our laws. Why is that so much to ask?

If the illegal flood from Mexico continues unabated, why would anyone not expect our government to eventually become as corrupt and ineffective as the Mexican government?

Like it or not (don’t give a rats behind if anyone is offended) but the founding of this country was based upon GOD and what did and did not work in European countries. The founders did not look to Cuba or Mexico or Congo... for any brilliant ideas in governance.

Rubio, you just lost any possibility I would vote for a ticket with you as VP. Mitt take note, you have raised serious legitimate concerns among conservative do not even think about putting this promoter of illegal activity on the ticket.

Rubio did briefly mention closing the border on Fox today, but his main annoyance with Obama’s action does seem to be that it undermines his own efforts to get a permanent bi-partisan bill passed.

Something like that will have to be done eventually but I’m against doing anything until we’ve figured out a way to secure our borders.

What in the heck is so hard about that?

Maybe various conditions would prevent us from 100% secure, but I’ll take 98 or 99%.

“Thou shalt not steal.”

One may not unilaterally appropriate to oneself what others own.

So, the grocery store has bread, I want/need bread, I may not walk into the store and help myself to a loaf or two, and then walk out without paying. That violates the commandment.

Thus, one may not illegally enter another country and “steal” the economic opportunity afforded legal residents of that country.

But in Catholic moral theology, at least, an exception is made if one is in dire need of the bread and legitimately has no other legal way of obtaining, and has asked the store manager or owner nicely for the bread one needs to feed oneself and one’s family (or has not had the opportunity to so ask), one may take the bread without payment, and it may be that no sin is committed.

So, too, with illegal immigration.

The illegal immigrant who comes to our country truly out of final desperation objectively breaks the law, but it may be that he does not sin.

I’ve said the same thing. Most people, at least in the not so far distant past, looking at the United States, and looking at many of our southern neighbors, would think coming here illegally would be better than staying where they are. And Cubans who lost everything to the greedy plantation master, Castro, had added incentive to come here, since the alternative was being a political prisoner or dying. While we can all be honest and enlightened when it comes to admitting our desire for a better life, we must also be honest in admitting that the hundreds of thousands of undesirable illegals that pour over our borders are helping to make life here something people won’t want. Once the Castros fall, and the big plantation goes back to the people, guys like Rubio might have a new home to build, but most Americans are stuck in this declining mess, and we don’t like it.

We are in agreement on more points than we disagree. Above and beyond all, our immigration policy and laws need to be changed, and tempered with compassion, but by the voting citizens of this nation.

The law also needs to be compassionate to those citizens who have been raped, murdered, killed or otherwise victimized by illegals whose blatant disregard for one law without consequence has encouraged them to blatantly disregard others. The law needs to be compassionate to the Chinese dissident, the East African Christian, the poor lady in Bangladesh who all want to come here as well, and are willing to spend their life savings, stand in line for hours and days on end at US Embassies around the world and follow the law scrupulously only to be pushed to the back of the line because others have snuck in front of them. Don't you agree that the compassion of the law should extend to them as well?

Our failed, neglected enforcement on the part of the government + our dispersal of freebies have made illegal immigration a much more attractive option than it ever should have been - and not only to those fleeing for a better life, but for opportunistice predators and parasites as well.
