Boy Scout leader arrested for alleged sex assault at Butte Meadows camp

Officers arrested a 20-year-old Boy Scout leader at his Shingletown home Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old at the Butte Meadows Scout camp over the last two years.

Dustin Hedrick was booked into the Butte County Jail in Oroville on suspicion of six counts of forcible lewd acts on a child younger than 14 and one count of electronic communication with a 16-year-old with intent to commit sexual acts. His bail was set at $465,000.

Butte County sheriff's deputies served a search warrant at Hedrick's home Thursday and arrested him. Investigators are still reviewing evidence that is mostly electronic, Sgt. Jason Hail said.

The Sheriff's Office started an investigation in May into allegations of sexual abuse at Camp Lassen in Butte Meadows, Hail said.

Hedrick is the assistant scout master for Troop 40 out of Redding, Hail said.

Scout executive Jim Martin of the Golden Empire Council of Boy Scouts of America in Sacramento said based on investigators' information, Hedrick has been removed from scouting.

"It's an outrageous crime against kids, people, and it's simply not tolerated," Martin said.

Hedrick earned his Eagle Scout in 2009, according to his Facebook page. That's the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts.

The National Boy Scouts Council would have to take action to strip someone of their Eagle Scout status, Martin said.

"The alleged behavior of the individual arrested runs counter to the values and ideals of the Boy Scouts of America, its volunteers, members and professionals," Martin said.

"The BSA works to protect children through a comprehensive program of education, chartered organization leader selection procedures, criminal background and other checks, barriers to abuse and prompt mandatory reporting."

Hedrick is likely to be arraigned on Monday.

The Sheriff's Office asks that anyone with information on the case contact detective Jason Miller at 538-7671.

"It's tragic," Hail said. "It's a very sad case."

Okay - then why the H-E-*-* are the BSA "considering a resolution that calls for ending a 102-year-old policy they’ve grappled with in recent years: banning gay scouts and scout leaders" ??!!!

This is not the Boy Scouts problem. It is the problem of all the liberals forcing them to take gays into their organization.

Sad that so many icons of the gay community can’t be trusted with same-sex children.

Mental disease, pure and simple. Forcing the Boy Scouts to accept homosexuals would end the organization. There is no way in Hades I would allow my boy anywhere near homosexuals, period.

Butte Meadows Camp sounds like a sequel to Bake Broke Mountain.

Most likely an abuser would never admit to being gay, so simply banning homosexuals won’t help in this case.

Well, Well, Well Buggery in the Boy Scouts!

Who Knew?

The faggots have been drooling over the smorgasbord of tenderlings in the Boy Scouts for years. That’s the only reason they have attacked the organization so relentlessly.

This is the only outcome for the unholy nonsense of allowing perverts into and in charge of the organization.

Hey Boy Scouts, resist the pressure. If you don’t, you will be destroyed from within.

This can’t be true. Every liberal writer and politician has assured us for several years now that gay men do not prey on young boys.

If only gays could fully participate in the Boys Scouts, these tragedies would not happen. /sarc

The reason BSA is considering changing their policy is due to enormous pressure from liberals.

It is my hope that the BSA "considering it" is akin to my Dad "considering" letting me buy that '57 Chevy that could lift the front tires off the ground while I was in High School - he thought about it long enough to tell me he thought about it. Then told me "No!".

Why believe some media headlines over others?

I suggest you read the responses in that thread, where they determined that the MEDIA pushed that “news”, not the BSA.

That's the official position of the BSA right now, "has no plans to change...".
How long do you think that will last given the very public statements from its National Executive Board members?

"We are at a tipping point, with national leaders within the Boy Scouts now taking a firm stand to help end discrimination," Tyrrell said in response to Turley's statement. She called on another prominent Boy Scout executive board member, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson, to join Turley in speaking out against the Scouts' anti-gay policy. Like Ernst & Young, AT&T has been commended by gay-rights groups for gay-friendly employment policies "The last thing AT&T wants is to undermine its excellent reputation for supporting LGBT people by failing to support a resolution that would bring equality to the Boy Scouts," Tyrrell said. AT&T issued a statement on Stephenson's behalf, indicating that he too might be interested in working internally to reconsider the membership policy.

First it was one Exec Board member, now two... I would prefer something a little stronger than "has no plans to". In fact, I would prefer to see Executive Board members who actually share the real values of the BSA, and those that don't shown the door or voted out. The homosexuals now have the wedge they need. Incrementalism...

I doubt this was his first time and if the organization was not attacked and he saw an opening he might not have joined so a public face of the policy and protecting normal families and children might.

We see the powerful gay activist not just putting pressure on businesses, organizations, even churches, but also threatening individuals. People are compromising their values out of fear. Hopefully the Boy Scout will live up to their motto and not waiver. God forbid it is changed, it will be board members who give in.

If you look around here, many conservatives are compromising on this very issue on FR. Romney just said gays should be allowed to adopt. He also promised the Log Cabin republicans he would get gay marriage enacted in this country as president. While governor of MA he also forced 5 yr olds to be indoctrinated into the “gay lifestyle” and the parents could not opt out their kids. If you bring this to light, some freepers call you obama lover or say obama is going to destroy this country and we must vote for romney. There is a communist principal that says, if you can put fear in the heart of people, you control them. I refuse to vote for a pro abortion, pro gay......not conservative person out of fear. What will I tell God. “Sorry God, I was more afraid of Obama than You”. There are many who won't vote for romney. Praying for a miracle at the convention.
