Dollar bills rain down on Seattle streets ($5,000)

Activists threw $5,000 in bills off a downtown Seattle building Wednesday in a "money-drop" protest of money's influence in politics.

Occupy Seattle activists tossed $5,000 off a downtown Seattle building Wednesday to protest money in politics.

Dollar bills came swirling down just after 5 p.m. at Seventh Avenue and Pike Street, to the delight of tourists. The money was stamped "money as speech silences us all," a statement of protest against court rulings that consider political donations from businesses a form of free speech.

According to the group's website, the money will go back into general circulation and get their message out.

Holly Rozner, a tourist visiting Seattle from Chicago with a group of friends, fetched $14 from the sky.

"I just saw it coming down," she said. "I didn't think it was real."

Matthew Toles, a photographer taking pictures of the money drop, said a "shower of money" lasted between five and 15 minutes. At first, people carried on with their business, not realizing that it was money fluttering down, he said. The wind blew some of the money onto a bar awning and into a nearby alley, sending people hunting for cash on windowsills and Dumpster lids.

Even though they dropped the money as a publicity stunt, representatives from Occupy Seattle and an affiliated group called #MicCheckWallSt would not comment afterward on the drop or how they pulled it off.

"I'm going to have to say, 'No comment,' " said Emily Ravenscraft. "It will be explained." ~snip

If they really wanted to put their money where their mouth is, they should have dropped it from Smith Tower. That way it would fall down to the homeless that hang out down there.

Yeah.
This has been done may times before.
Sometimes its been done as just giving it out person-to-person on the street...with not always good results.
Some folks get weird when ya try to give them free money!

If I ever witness something like this, I’m getting the hell out ASAP. What better way for a terrorist to create a big fat target.

Isn't defacing coinage illegal?

Oh yeah. Different rules for a better breed of people, "progressives" than us "regressives".

Forgot for a sec there.

Proof that somebody like Soros is bankrolling this to literally throw away money like that. Who among these wretched waifs had $5,000 in ones just sitting around?

And isn’t there a crime for defacing American currency? Not that Holder is going to spend a penny looking into that.

Well, I’d bet that the 4 or 5 idiots who tossed this off that roof went up with $50,000, but all they could “find” to toss out was the $5K that was thrown off the roof.

JMHO, YMMV.

Good stunt - I give them credit.

Perhaps a conservative group should announce it’s own money drop, of say, $20,000, occurring somewhere in a 5-block area of downtown, during the afternoon rush hour. Whether they raise enough money to actually pull of the stunt, or whether they instead have to use monopoly money (to make another point, I might add) is irrelevant at that point.

I would LOVE to have one of those T-shirt type of shooters you see at races but instead it shoots a wad of money. Each shot is just $20.

And then I would lob a wad of bills at any OWS mob. Might be better than water cannons, mace or rubber bullets.

Let's protest money in commerce, too.

People should work out of the goodness of their hearts, without expectation of remuneration, and distribute the fruits of their labor freely to those who don't like to work.
