Calls to Destroy Egypt's Great Pyramids Begin
AINA/Front Page Magazine ^ | 7-10-2012 | Raymond Ibrahim

According to several reports in the Arabic media, prominent Muslim clerics have begun to call for the demolition of Egypt's Great Pyramids--or, in the words of Saudi Sheikh Ali bin Said al-Rabi'i, those "symbols of paganism," which Egypt's Salafi party has long planned to cover with wax. Most recently, Bahrain's "Sheikh of Sunni Sheikhs" and President of National Unity, Abd al-Latif al-Mahmoud, called on Egypt's new president, Muhammad Morsi, to "destroy the Pyramids and accomplish what the Sahabi Amr bin al-As could not."

This is a reference to the Muslim Prophet Muhammad's companion, Amr bin al-As and his Arabian tribesmen, who invaded and conquered Egypt circa 641. Under al-As and subsequent Muslim rule, many Egyptian antiquities were destroyed as relics of infidelity. While most Western academics argue otherwise, according to early Muslim writers, the great Library of Alexandria itself--deemed a repository of pagan knowledge contradicting the Koran--was destroyed under bin al-As's reign and in compliance with Caliph Omar's command.

However, while book-burning was an easy activity in the 7th century, destroying the mountain-like pyramids and their guardian Sphinx was not--even if Egypt's Medieval Mamluk rulers "de-nosed" the latter during target practice (though popular legend still attributes it to a Westerner, Napoleon).

Now, however, as Bahrain's "Sheikh of Sheikhs" observes, and thanks to modern technology, the pyramids can be destroyed. The only question left is whether the Muslim Brotherhood president of Egypt is "pious" enough--if he is willing to complete the Islamization process that started under the hands of Egypt's first Islamic conqueror.

Nor is such a course of action implausible. History is laden with examples of Muslims destroying their own pre-Islamic heritage--starting with Islam's prophet Muhammad himself, who destroyed Arabia's Ka'ba temple, transforming it into a mosque.

Asking "What is it about Islam that so often turns its adherents against their own patrimony?" Daniel Pipes provides several examples, from Medieval Muslims in India destroying their forefathers' temples, to contemporary Muslims destroying their non-Islamic heritage in Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Malaysia, and Tunisia.

Currently, in what the International Criminal Court is describing as a possible "war crime," Islamic fanatics are destroying the ancient heritage of the city of Timbuktu in Mali--all to Islam's triumphant war cry, "Allahu Akbar!"

Much of this hate for their own pre-Islamic heritage is tied to the fact that, traditionally, Muslims do not identify with this or that nation, culture, heritage, or language, but only with the Islamic nation--the Umma.

Accordingly, while many Egyptians--Muslims and non-Muslims alike--see themselves as Egyptians, Islamists have no national identity, identifying only with Islam's "culture," based on the "sunna" of the prophet and Islam's language, Arabic. This sentiment was clearly reflected when the former Leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Muhammad Akef, declared "the hell with Egypt," indicating that the interests of his country are secondary to Islam's.

It is further telling that such calls are being made now--immediately after a Muslim Brotherhood member became Egypt's president. In fact, the same reports discussing the call to demolish the last of the Seven Wonders of the Word, also note that Egyptian Salafis are calling on Morsi to banish all Shias and Baha'is from Egypt.

In other words, Morsi's call to release the Blind Sheikh, a terrorist mastermind, may be the tip of the iceberg in coming audacity. From calls to legalize Islamic sex-slave marriage to calls to institute "morality police" to calls to destroy Egypt's mountain-like monuments, under Muslim Brotherhood tutelage, the bottle has been uncorked, and the genie unleashed in Egypt.

Will all those international institutions, which make it a point to look the other way whenever human rights abuses are committed by Muslims, lest they appear "Islamophobic," at least take note now that the Great Pyramids appear to be next on Islam's hit list, or will the fact that Muslims are involved silence them once again--even as those most ancient symbols of human civilization are pummeled to the ground?

Funny how people think of the pyramids as old, when in fact the rocks they walk on in their back yards are many thousands of times older.

"NO ONE would EVER go to Egypt!..."

I was thinking about a post about how much they would lose, and that cooler heads might prevail -- approximately 12% of their economy is tied to the tourist trade, I found -- but then Islam tends to be spread among the uneducated, and the poverty-striken.

They are told that while their life is a struggle, Allah will reward the strong and obedient. So by their thinking, destroying the tourism industry would simply create more soldiers for the cause.

In other words, they're all insane.

>What I find ironic, is the level of tolerance the followers of Islam demand from others, compared to the tolerance they extend to others.<

It’s amusing that the ratio of tolerance demanded is diametrically opposed to the amount of tolerance extended on the parts of democrats and of radical islamists.

“It’s almost as if there was a parasite eating away the brains of these people.”

Winston Churchill compared Islam to rabies. I agree with that.

Muslims are not into setting up cash registers and tourist souvenir stands in front of the pyramids. Just a wild guess.

I personally wouldn't pay Egypt a dime to see them.

That is the exact same reasoning the islamists use to justify the killing of western civilians - we elect our leaders, so we are responsible for any “crimes” they commit.

If their law (or belief) is that Western Civilization is evil and therefore must be eradicated, then in their minds killing of anyone who supports those values which are evil to them must be killed. That's the way it is whether we like it or not. In this way, if an entire population of voting citizens (or the majority of them) also believe this way, they too become the enemy. We won't be able to interview them before they become "victims" of war.

I am sure there were folks that were not morally supportive of WWII in Dresden and Hiroshima. But by their collective association with a populace that supported the war initiative their respective countries started, they (by no fault of their own) became complicit in the ramifications. Accordingly, the war strategy included breaking the enemy's will to fight (the civilian will included).

War is horrible and nobody wants (or should want it). But if a war must be fought, it needs to be total and complete war in an effort to keep it short. I agree with Robert E. Lee in that regard.

My point, which may have come off as brash, is those countries that are now electing governments that openly support terrorism and violence against the USA, Israel and Europe are far easier to fight than sectarian groups of renegades operating in pockets of desserts and mountains.

The citizens of Egypt have legitimized their political and religious position against "western civilization" with their elections. When the next war breaks out, rules of engagement should be very loose and mosques need not become safe houses for the enemy (as an example).

I don't support targeting civilians or the carpet/fire bombing of entire cities as we have smarter weapons these days. But I wouldn't shy away from riskier scenarios against targets that will eventually save American Soldiers and bring a quicker end to war.

WE SHOULD NEVER APOLOGIZE FOR WAR (friendly fire incidents excepted)!

Egypt is now joining in the beating of war drums along with Iran and Syria. Those nations are finding support from Russia and China. History is repeating itself and the next war may be more like WWII. If it comes, I hope we are ready.

After they have destroyed all vestiges of paganism and all other religions, they will continue to destroy each other.

Funny how people think of the pyramids as old, when in fact the rocks they walk on in their back yards are many thousands of times older.

Perspective is a funny thing. A structure was built by some impossible means thousands of years before Pathagoras contributed to geometry or carbon steel was used for in tools. People don't go to Eqypt to look at "old rocks stacked in a pyramid." It's the wonder of what it took to do it, how it was done, the scale of what was done and how long it has endured the elements. Nobody did anything special with that rock in your back yard.

Consequently, if you want to really be amazed, every particle in your body came from a supernova somewhere billions of years ago. So, theoretically, you are older than the "pyramids" too.

Not happy with taking down the US as a superpower, now Obama will also be responsible for taking down the pyramids.

Quite a legacy.

That would be a shame to cover the lead singer up: (80's hair aside)

Yeah, but I don't want to walk like an Egyptian.

Where there's a shell, there's a way.

25 years ago, we had Ronald Reagan, Johnny Cash, and Bob Hope.
Today we have Obama, no cash, and no hope!

If you can't appreciate the pure beauty of the violin after hearing this, something's wrong with your ears.

Or you can get raw with these strings.

How about this gamechanger from America's Got Talent (which they SHOULD have won).

Either way, the violin is sweet yet lethal.

Do it!

Muslims are **** LESS than **** animals and should be considered vermin to be exterminated. Anyone who could contemplate destroying such international treasures deserves no compassion or mercy.

Fixed it.

Thought of the Bangles as well (class of ‘85) and my crush on the girls. But also flashbacked to Steve Martin’s ‘King Tut’. I will even admit to having owned the album...

I'm not certain they're smart enough, 1) to realize what's going on, 2) to comprehend the danger associated with what's going on, or 3) to see the need to oppose what's happening until it is far too late.

I believe France is now at the tipping point. At about 5% muslims, there begins to be a critical mass towards some sort of Islamic revolution. Next couple of decades are going to be interesting . . .

They have a term for it *jahaliyah*, I don’t know if that is the exact spelling but it is pretty close. It means the time of ignorance because they believe that all cultures before Islam were living in darkness and ignorance.

As far as the Indians turning on their own culture—the muslims used forceful indoctrination to turn the captive peoples against their own ancestors, history and brothers. It is painful to see how they turned Indian against Indian, Egyptian Muslim against Egyptian Christian. They are masters of thought control.

If you want the complete history of Islam throughout the world get “Islamic Jihad: a History of Forced Conversion, Imperialism and Slavery” by M.A. Khan. The author is from Bangladesh but is strongly against Islam. This book is available on Kindle. This book requires a strong stomach and is not the pastel Disney version of Islam that is being promoted in top American universities through the benefits of Saudi money.
