Protesters speak out against deportation of illegal immigrants outside detention center

Before their baby's birth, Julia Longwell's husband could be deported to Honduras for being in the country illegally. It's a frightening possibility for the 31-year-old mother.

Eight months pregnant and with a 2-year-old in tow, a teary-eyed Longwell stood outside the Broward Transitional Center, where her husband is detained. She tried to share her story over a bullhorn in broken Spanish. She was too emotional to talk during the protest organized by DreamActivist Florida. The crowd applauded in support.

Longwell and German Lopez Martinez married in 2009, and lawyers advised the Lake Worth couple to "live under the radar," even though Longwell is an American citizen.

Shortly after crossing the Mexican border, Martinez failed to appear in court and pay traffic tickets. He was eventually picked up by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office in February, Longwell said.

"Obviously, I need my husband," she said, "It's totally overwhelming. I worry about worrying because stress is bad when you're pregnant. I have very little support."

But strangers united in the struggle against the looming deportation of family members faced the Pompano Beach detention center and chanted "Undocumented! Unafraid!"

They also held signs that said "Why is my dad being deported?" and "Detainment and deportation destroy families."

I would guess another anchor baby is worth $35,000 a year in welfare payments for poor Julia.

>> lawyers advised the Lake Worth couple to “live under the radar,”<<

Isn’t that both illegal and unethical? Lawyers are Officers of the Court and cannot suborn criminal actrivity.

Oh, boo hoo. Go back home, have your kid with your husband and if you still want to be here, go through the proper channels and do it legally.

Liberals worry about the families of these criminals when the illegal alien is sent back where he belongs. But they don’t worry about the family of a black man who goes to jail because he can’t afford to pay parking tickets.

The American’s family needs him too and he has done far less to harm the country than the illegal alien has.

AMNESTY FOR AMERICANS FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These people are “nucking futs!” How in the heck can they advocate a policy that is suicidal to ourselves and our country? If I live to be 100, 150, 200, I will never, ever understand that mentality. When I see these idiots, there is a voice in the back of my head that says, “alright, time to thin the herd.” Trouble is no one should have that power to determine that, first it is Nazi like and it should be left up to God Himself to say where and when. These people are too smart for us, let’s get out of here. B-) B-P

“They also held signs that said “Why is my dad being deported?” and “Detainment and deportation destroy families.”

At their current rate of progressing brazenness, these people will eventually be enemy combatants within our borders.

And by literally refusing to deal with the problem, the Federal Government is committing High Treason.

They can all go to hell.

Seriously.

This is such a sad and touching story and needs to be rectified. Why, absent from this whole story is equal protection under the law. Julia, is a US citizen and should enjoy the rights of US citizens; to include equal protection under the law.

Her illegal immigrant husband has been detained for breaking the law. Julia willfully assisted her husband to hide from immigration authorities.....I believe that can be called "harboring a fugitive." I believe that is a felony. If her husband ever used a false SSN, or lied on applications, that would make her an accomplice to fraud. I think that is also a felony.....one count for each and every time.

Please won't somebody help this poor woman and arrest her? I mean she is begging for justice.

Illegal immigrants aren't the only problem; arrest their accomplices too.

No Mas Illegales! Su comprende Julia?

Here is a case of who gets the last laugh. It seems that because of Mexico’s strict immigration policies, illegal aliens who return back to Mexico because they have been deported or cannot find work, now are having problems getting their American born achor babies accepted in Mexico.
