Virginia Politics ^

Posted on 07/25/2012 6:30:17 PM PDT by mnehring

With a little help from his friends, former congressman Virgil Goode has taken a key step toward getting his name on November’s presidential ballot in Virginia, submitting more than 14,000 signatures to the State Board of Elections....

..Goode was a Democrat for much of his career, then became an Independent and finally a Republican for his last six years on Capitol Hill. Now Goode is getting assistance from yet another party, the Independent Greens, whose members have collected thousands of signatures for him....

...“Virgil supports rail, and that’s our big issue and he’s with us on that,” said Carey Campbell, a member of the Independent Greens executive committee. “We’ve had for many years a good relationship with the Constitution Party folks.”...

I just detest the left’s having hijacked those phrases (conservationism and environmentalism) and perverted them. Same goes for the term, “(classic) liberal”, which is what “Conservatism” is today. They hijack and ruin everything they touch.

It is not part of the environmental movement; it is what I posted:

In fact, it sounds like a place that Romney supporters would love: fiscally conservative and they want to ignore social issues.

Tortured “logic” at its best by an Obamabot. Own up to it. You’re a wasted vote. A narrow minded narcissist who can’t see beyond their own nose. But hey, you’ll show those evil GOP-e types. You’ll help give them 4 more years of Obama.

Then, after Obama is re-elected, you will b*tch and complain about it but what you need to do is keep your trap shut because it’s what you wanted. Now go throw your temper tantrum on other threads. Puke up your self righteousness for all to see. Lay bare your narrow minded, single issue voter mentality for all to admire.

“I find it curious how some posters on FR with “Conservative” in their handle do their damndest to pimp the candidacy of the biggest Socialist the GOP has ever put up for President. You ain’t foolin’ anybody.”

I find it curious how some posters on FR who claim to be Conservative can throw away a vote and give the election to the biggest Marxist that the US has ever seen in the White House. You can try and fool yourself but a spade is a spade.

Oh no...you called me a Romneybot...how will I ever survive, not sure I can go on...ugh.

Seriously, it’s simple. You can go ahead and vote 3rd party, it is your right to do so. But that is a wasted vote guaranteed to be a vote for Obama. So go ahead, do what you feel is best for you and your conscience but when Obama is re-elected and you b *tch and complain about what he does for the next four years, I will be there to remind you that this is what you wanted, guaranteed.

I’m not throwing away a vote. I’m voting for the Conservative. You’re voting for a Socialist fraud. If you think by voting for a fake-R Socialist that you’ll get Conservatism, you’re lying to yourself.

If you think that voting for a third party will get you Conservatism, then you’re not as smart as you pretend. Keep the blinders on, it’s your right. Keep living the pipe dream, it’s your right. Go ahead, “teach” the GOP a lesson.

Oh I have no illusion that Romney is a Conservative. I know he’s not. But what I do know is that he is all we have this time around. The alternative is far worse. I am a realist as well as a Conservative. I would rather have a man in that position that has been in business and will help the economy, not destroy it. Four more years of Obama will finish us off. I understand this and refuse to throw a temper tantrum like a child because my candidate didn’t win. I’m not throwing a temper tantrum like some around her because my candidate DIDN’T EVEN RUN.

I live in the real world where no one is perfect but you make do with the hand you’re dealt.

"Oh I have no illusion that Romney is a Conservative. I know he’s not."

Thank you, folks, an honest admission. And there you have it, why I will never vote for him. He is and will always be an enemy of Conservatism. "ABO" isn't a set of sound ideological principles, it is a purely emotional and reactionary stance that does nothing to advance the Conservative agenda. The candidate facing Zero MUST possess the character, integrity, record and agenda to deserve the awesome responsibility of the office. We won't solve the problems facing this country by substituting one abomination (Zero) for another (Willard).

And there is why you will never get a candidate elected ever again that is your brand of “Conservative”. Your “The candidate facing Zero MUST possess the character, integrity, record and agenda to deserve the awesome responsibility of the office.” will prevent anyone from getting elected. No one can agree who meets those “qualifications”. The trashing of candidates on FR during the days of the primaries showed that clearly. No one was “pure” enough for anyone. Every candidate is human and had flaws and those flaws prevented Conservative candidates from being nominated. We ate our own and this is what we got.

I’m willing to be that if Jesus himself ran for the Republican candidate for President, some here on FR would vote against him because, gasp, he was seen in the company of prostitutes and had an IRS agent as one of his ring of advisors.

The environmental movement is the antithesis of conservatism.

Actually, true environmentalism goes to the heart of what the word “conserve” means. There are some things worth conserving and protecting: family, freedom, faith, and God’s creation.

We must conserve it, that is, be good stewards of it, and USE IT wisely as God has given us power over it. That is a conservative’s understanding of environmentalism, Eva.

Ted Nugent understands that position extremely well and speaks to it regularly. As the owner of a mini-farm in a rural area, I can tell you that the deer population is too large around here and needs to be thinned for their own survival. They are an important creation of God, and they deserve being properly managed. They are beautiful creatures.

That is true environmentalism. So, your statement is not out of line because you specifically said, “the environmental movement”. I know what you mean by that. I am going to properly report your words. You did not say that you believe in mismanaging God’s creation.

However, I will call for the same integrity from you. The above excerpt about the Independent Green Party of Virginia specifically said they left the “Greens” a decade ago and united with the Independence Party of America. Their agenda is no longer that of the radical “environmental movement.”

I hope God gives you a great day, Eva, and that you praise Him for the wonder and beauty of His creation!

Like I said, there is a big difference between a conservationist and an environmentalist. One is an individual effort, the other is a political movement for mass organizing and big government.

You realize, the same as I do, that we could be FRiends.

I don’t consider you any kind of evil person because you are a Romney supporter. I think you simply disagree with me on that one.

I would like to see you smack Romney when he gets out of line, and honestly, I’d prefer you on our side. If conservative supporters don’t call him on his mistakes, then who will. IF the ABO’s don’t hold his feet to the fire, then no one will.

Reconsider. We are the resistance; we are the rebellion against inside-the-beltway politicians from both parties.

Join us, Eva.

"And there is why you will never get a candidate elected ever again that is your brand of “Conservative”."

You already made my argument. Willard's NOT a Conservative. He is the opposite. What most of us here want is one who is actually, y'know, remotely one. How does it serve us electing someone who OPPOSES what we believe in ? That makes absolutely no sense.

"Your “The candidate facing Zero MUST possess the character, integrity, record and agenda to deserve the awesome responsibility of the office.” will prevent anyone from getting elected. No one can agree who meets those “qualifications”."

Baloney. We see lots of people and candidates every day who adhere to these ideals. It's the party establishment whom insist on foisting people on us that serve THEIR big government liberal agenda, and viscerally opposing individuals that stand for OUR Conservative agenda. I favor dumping Willard for Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin. You run that name up the flagpole around here and see how many salute it... I guarantee you he'd get over 95% FReeper support. An instant Conservative uniter, not a Socialist divider.

"The trashing of candidates on FR during the days of the primaries showed that clearly. No one was “pure” enough for anyone. Every candidate is human and had flaws and those flaws prevented Conservative candidates from being nominated. We ate our own and this is what we got."

Because nearly all the candidate who ran were TERRIBLE. Either they didn't have enough experience to jump to the job (Bachmann), too ill-prepared (Cain), plain mediocre (Perry), too second-tier (Santorum), too damaged (Gingrich), too nutty (Paul) and then there was the worst... Willard. Remember, too, that Gingrich refused to get out in key races where his votes would've gone to Santorum and halted Willard's plurality wins (and pluralities should be unacceptable on their face -- we need closed primaries and runoffs). I've suggested we have a drafting process. No more of these mediocrities and prima donnas deciding to get in. We need special nominating conventions where the grassroots put forward names, and those chosen compete. Draft the best (Walker, Palin, et al). Because what is clear is that at least in the past 20 years, the pool of choices getting in has just gotten worse. I cringe to think what we'll be left with in 2016. Michael Bloomberg ?
