Gov. Deval Patrick: EBT enforcement ‘not feasible’ (refuses to enforce law)
Boston Herald ^ | July 28, 2012 | John Zaremba

A defiant Gov. Deval Patrick finally signed a welfare reform bill into law yesterday — only to say he won’t enforce key parts of the measure, drawing the wrath of lawmakers working to crack down on widespread abuses of the system.

Patrick, in a letter to lawmakers, said it’s “not feasible” to ban EBT purchases of frills such as liquor, cigarettes, lottery tickets and tattoos — and that “this administration will not enforce what cannot be enforced with respect to the use of EBT cards.”

“He’s saying he’s not going to enforce the law. That’s a first for me,” said state Rep. Shaunna O’Connell (R-Taunton), who is leading the charge for reform.

And which part of this law shall the people decide not to comply - in the spirit of such defiance.

Deval is just another ignant street thug. The primary reason to go to EBT was to, in fact, control the use of public funds.

No doubt the people he hired in MA and their friends have no idea how to make changes in the EBT programming, nor should they ~ you can't be functionally illiterate and do good systems work.

The only cure for this outrageous refusal of Democrats to obey the law is for the country to get so broke that the shrinking number of bureaucrats can no longer push the welfare payments out the door. Ronald Reagan had it right: Starve the beast.

This will take a while, but one day the entire rotten structure will implode. And the ‘Rats who caused the collapse will leave the sinking ship with their millions of ill-gotten gains....just as they do in other third-world countries.

Refusing to enforce the law is a violation of his oath of office. He should be removed.

First step is a court order to enforce the law. After that, or even concurrent, the process for removal should be initiated.

Deval IS from Chicago.

And is a close, long time pal of Osama Obama himself....all the way back to their "community organizer" days.In fact, many folks outside of Massachusetts don't know this but it was "Coupe Deval" who coined the phrase "yes we can" for his 2006 campaign for Governor.

One of the most evil underpinnings of liberalism is that it needs and therefor propagates an ignorant, dependent underclass in order to keep it’s miniscule hierarchy in power. Liberals, like so many music and film stars, actually detest most of their supporters for being needy weak minded sheep who seek salvation in what is really nothing but shallow sophistry and political theater. But at the same time, these stars and politicians must keep feeding the sheep in order to keep the money and votes rolling in.

Right now, Texas trying to limit what people can buy with food stamps.

At least six other states, including Florida and California, also have similar efforts underway.

Food dollars go a lot further if someone is willing to cook. Unfortunately a lot of people now view the kitchen as a room they have just because it came with the house or serve only what they can fix in the microwave.

They need to put home ec classes back in high school. Making a big pot of soup, red beans and rice, chili or meatloaf can be a big budget stretcher. Cold cereal is becoming very expensive and can be replaced with oatmeal prepared on top of the stove quite easily and goes a whole lot farther. I doubt if today’s generation even knows how to cut up a whole chicken.

When the People's body duly passes laws, and then the Executive refuses to honor them, he becomes the First Anarchist. How can he expect people to follow the law when he won't? Why should the Legislature go through the pretence of passing laws if they won't be enforced?

Ok, it’s my turn to accuse someone of using a “code word.”

When Deval(ue) says it is “not feasible to enforce it” that is merely code for “I don’t want to” enforce it.

There is another chap, living in Washington DC, who doesn’t want to enforce a lot of laws, too.

The article is not about food benefits. It is about EBT cash benefits.

They ARE being given cash. The EBT cash benefit is just that -- cash. That is what the dispute is about -- no controls on how the cash is spent.

“probably the best thing to do is just give them cash.”

EBT is as good as cash. I’d like to see them just give these poor downtrodden people a web portal where they can monetize all of life’s problems with an infusion of deficit cash to their EBT based on checkboxes of the political issue dejure.

Then we can get rid of case workers, administrators and all the bureaucracy that comes with it (just give them EBT cards too). Just give everyone money to help with all their little hurts and inconveniences. Afterall, freedom is not having anyone tell you what you can use your EBT for, right?

If they don’t spend their full balance, sweep it to a retirement account.

yes, I’m being sarcastic.

We will have finally ended poverty.
