There is no doubt that depression slows the rate of movement but the average stay in one location is not changed that much.
And movement from the cities is driven as much by perceived relative prices as anything else, if not more.

Impossible. Democrat party platform is for gay marriage, socialized medicine, higher punitive taxes for upper income earners, and a Federal govt that spends 1/4 of our national wealth.

I live within walking distance and since the Nichols family (founders and developers of Kansas City, MO's Country Club Plaza, so named because it was originally the city dump that became surrounded by golf courses and country clubs) sold out to N.C. Highwoods Properties, has turned into one major chain mall with many chain eateries and bars - ugh! I don't bother walking there for there is little of interest to me as either a shopper or diner and drink and drown bars are not my scene.
When once, the cars blaring rap music were limited to one pass only through the Plaza, now has roving gangs shoving and jostling people as they enter and leave area shops.
This became a real scandal when two wives of KC Chief's executives were mugged in a parking lot and not too long ago, Sly James, KC Mayor, was forced to come to the aid of a passerby one weekend from a roving gang of "teens" (not-Amish.)
Sad, but that's what happens when the populace sinks to welfare recipients who continue to vote themselves more and more largess from the taxpayers and the elected supposed to be in charge of protecting the citizens, give way to "community involvement (read no guns, no cars, no motorcycles, just walking or biking making friends with the locals) to protection from such lawlessness.
Anything more than that is viewed as "police harassment" or "picking on minorities."

Ah ha, you’ve heard of them no doubt.
That makes me so sad to think that this has happened, too many things now exist in my memory only. Guess that’s one of the downsides from living so long and being able to live in so many different places.

Why don’t we have some true Conservatives infiltrate them, like they have done for the last 7 decades(way before I was born, and a few years before my father was born), act and talk like them.. gain their trust... and take over.... just like they have done... :/ sounds evil.. and it is.. but we must get our position back (original founder’s intention of the Constitution, and the founding of our Country and the moral values that came with it)...
I see a ridiculous number of California license plates out here in West Texas....former Kansan also as my name would indicate. Really miss Kansas a lot (especially the scenery with it so brown and dry out here but even KS is awful this summer as well)....very proud of this primary!
Eh its better to have a moderate politically pledged to support you than a democrat politically pledged to appose you.
Take the gains you have with the rest of the State and let them run your state’s political activity. Let the moderates help you where they will, as the democrats will fight you everywhere.
Have gotten into the habit of checking out license plates when I drive into the city. Tonight, of the 6 that I could see, 4 were from states other than Texas - even saw one from New York last week.
People who have only driven through Kansas have nothing much positive to say about it. But there is something special about the waving wheat and listening to the corn grow that they probably wouldn’t appreciate anyway. Lived there for 45 years. Awesome place to raise a family.
At least parts of Texas aren’t as dry this year as last year. Lived and worked in Lubbock one summer and it was so hot and not a drop of rain.
Farmers in Kansas are really hurting. But politically they are really getting it together. Lots of folks up there worked very hard this election year and they have a right to be proud of their efforts. I know many are so glad Selibus is gone. Dorothy should have banished her to some place other than D.C. though.
I’m in Midland so pretty much just like Lubbock here unfortunately, though we have had some rain this summer luckily.
We drove from Houston to Colorado at Christmas and then back two weeks later. Thought we would never get out of Texas. I was shocked at how much Lubbock has grown. Didn’t know we had a huge wind farm in that part of the state either.
Used to work in the grain industry and my area was from Gruver, Texas, through Happy, Texas and down to Lubbock. Not much out there but cows and wind. First tumbleweed I ever saw was bigger than my car.
We spend a lot of weekend time in the Hill Country and love it. There is so many different parts to Texas that most people never take the time to see. Friends from the east coast are really impressed with how good our roads are and the fact that we have quite a lot of trees in part of the state.
TX defeated only one liberal Republican state senator in the primary runoff. The others either were not running this year or had already survived first primary challengers.
Several other weren't on the ballot at all as they chose to retire rather than face re-election and MANY rino r's were defeated in the house.
The Texas legislature will be a HUGELY more conservative body next session as a result.
Sadly, I agree.. they have their mindset set already.. What will it take to get back (at least) half of what we were (supposed to be) short of a true civil war? :/

I should hope so.
2011 session was a big disappointment given the large GOP majority that was gained. Straus is to be faulted, but I dont think he’ll be knocked off even with some of his pals gone.
Strauss certainly won’t be knocked off if WE don’t, en mass, let our reps know that voting for him as speaker will be frowned upon in a BIG way.
Good counsel, when it comes to the rank and file moderate Republicans in Kansas - they understand what we’re up against. The problem was (and I stress WAS) the moderates in the Senate who were hell-bent on helping the Democrats, no matter what the issue.
