He won’t last beyong one term, and he will so damage the brand of “conservatism” that the democrats will completely rule after him.

I simply don't believe Obama and his chief harpy Val will EVER give up their power. If there even IS an election, the votes are being counted by Soros and if Mitt were to win, the new-improved John Roberts court would invalidate the win.

That said, Obama will damage the mormon brand for decades to come.

Last time we talked, Luis, over fried alligator, you demonstrated your deeply held views that Bush and Cheney failed by not marching Cheney’s gun accident on the front page of the WaPo. You had no understanding of the rights of privacy, and you had no patience for those who did.

I am sorry you felt the need to take anti-freeping to a whole new level.

Good God, not another chorus of "FR has been going downhill since..." Haven't we received a mortal wound every four years for the past 12? You'd figure we'd be bled out by now but it's funny, I keep logging in and the fight's still raging. Guess I'm not quite ready to be led around by a Beltway nose ring just yet.

A lot of people date FR's decline and fall from the day that Ash was banned, but I think the rot set in much earlier than that. Toiletman, Jim. We never should have let Toiletman get away.

I love FR. Have since RaTHergate when I began lurking. And I think Mitt is a gun-grabbing statist.

But I will check Romney/Ryan in the voting booth.

As my sig below says, my game is disruption. We must stand athwart the highway to hell this country's on, yelling STOP!

I've got nobody to vote FOR, but I must use lethal force --my vote-- in self-defense against this usurper of the Republic and his cronies.

If we can dump the Obama regime, we can start working on a new problem: containment of Romney. But first, Obama must go.

Well, if it isn’t pure, then it is corrupt. Somewhere, someplace, there has to be purity, if nothing more to remind the corrupt about the way things ought to be. That place is here, I think. God bless Free Republic!

Just as long as we keep voting for their candidates, that’s where we’re going.

Yup. Thank you sir, may I have another.

I doubt any Conservatives have left Free Republic but a lot of RINOs and libs have.

I have a problem with the whole thread that uses the nomenclature RINO. What gives conservatives either the right or the idea that they get to define what the Republican party is?

I'll absolutely agree that what conservatives (or even better Constitutionalists) believe is what the Republican party *should* be, but it is what it is. If the nominating process gives us a McCain or a Romney, or big-government candidates like both of the Bushes, then who is the RINO? The established party members who get their way cycle after cycle, or the true conservatives who abandon the Republican party when they (once again) nominate someone for whom the Constitution is a distraction, not a core value?

Instead, call them CINOs - Conservatives in name only. The Republican party is not by any means conservative, let alone Constitutionalist.

And yet . . .

The real question we must ask ourselves is whether it would be better to have Romney in the White House, or Obama. That's the choice. It's not Romney or a true conservative. The party apparatus has spoken, and once again a true conservative will not be a viable option - meaning, someone who has a real chance of winning because they are one of the major party candidates (not because of their philosophy). It's Romney or Obama. If you say, "Not Romney" then you're saying, "Yes, Obama." For all his warts, the question is not: Is Romney perfect? The question is: Is Obama worse?

I believe a true Constitutionalist - who can demonstrate that they are - *can* be elected. But it won't be until the Republican party is rebuilt. Because right now, the Republican party is CINO.

That is kind of my take too. I don’t like it one bit but figure we might have a better chance influencing a Romney/Ryan executive than an Obama one for sure. Here is my plan....much like last time. I could not stand McCain so I just posted anti-Obama stuff and pro Palin stuff.

All is not lost though as we proved our power in 2010. We actually did get the house to go more conservative...now we need to do the same to the senate.

Good thoughts on Romney. I’m supporting Gary Johnson.

“Mr. Robinson fails to realize that it was individual members of his forum that brought gravitas to the forum, and not the other way around. “

You didn’t build that.

Sound familiar...

I will vote for Romney in order to defeat Obama. But after he sets foot in the WH, I will not kiss his behind for the next 4 years. He will not get an easy pass.

By the way, I’ve always credited the FReepers for any successes we’ve had on FR. FReepers are the greatest!!

I didn’t build FR. The loyal FReepers did!!

All I’ve done is try to nudge it along the right path.

Hoping y’all can help Ryan shine and keep Romney in the closet, but it’ll probably be the other way around. Only it won’t be shine we’re seeing with Romney at the helm.

His record is clear:

>>His “screed” makes me like FreeRepublic more.<<

My thoughts exactly. Typically, if a liberal/RINO (who are we kidding; they’re the same thing) hates something then I frequently check to see if it is something I’ll probably like.

GREAT thread, Jim! Thanks!

These are complex times, and many hot buttons are quickly exposed. Thus, it is refreshing that you have taken the time to be upfront with this discussion thread, and thus allow us a framework of discussion that we, together, can come back to over the rest of this election campaign and re-think others viewpoints, as well as our own. We need to do this to better prepare ourselves for the 2014 US House Election Campaign: The Money Men/Women Campaign!

I am pretty much of a one issue FReeper this election as my tagline suggests. I see the insanity to asking the Chinese to loan us 40 cents on the dollar so that our pro-debt politicians in “both” political parties can continue to pay out 40 cents on the dollar and thus buy votes with bankrupt “entitlement” promises charged to those who cannot vote HELL NO: our Grandchildren’s Descendants.

Whereas, the September, 2008 Federal Housing Bankruptcy, (FHA, Freddie, and Fannie), destroyed about 30 % of the net worth of the Generation that Fought in WW2, the US Federal Government has increased, AND refuses to abolish the FHA, Freddie and Fannie, let alone even admit that they were the problem.

Somehow we have lost the “Constitutional Checks and Balances” in Congress and the NINE SUPREMES, so our Government is hopelessly on the wrong track with a Communist Foreigner being cheered on by the White-Guilt Liberal masses.

To me the most distressing thing is that The Republican Party shows no discernible signs that they understand what their responsibilities are, with the possible exception of Rep. Issa’s very long delayed filing of his lawsuit against AG Holder.

We are thus faced with the dual dilemma of of replacing a Communist with a Socialist, who was endorsed by a Party that has been proven to be worthless in providing checks and balances.

For example, from my earlier reply to another FReep thread: “It is interesting to notice that whatever needs to be done to “Get America Back On the Right Track” is exactly what the Democrats and the Liberal Agenda Media accuse the Republicans of trying to destroy.

Their attacks are usually successful, and quickly put the RINOs on small-ball defense for the rest of the election campaign.

Being good RINOs, the trembling Republicans usually say: “Ohhhhh, no! Not us! We will save whatever YOU say that we should! You Democrats know best! You will ALWAYS have our Bipartisan Support to keep on being the cave-in, pro-debt wimps that we have always been.”

This illustrates pretty well the frustration That I have with Romney and Ryan trying to “save” the very things that are causing the US Federal Government to go belly up every day at 1:48 PM because they have run out of OUR tax money!

I’ll get off my soap box, as I literally have other fish to fry.
