President Obama and Mitt Romney have found some new common ground -surprisingly – on an issue of gay rights.
Obama today joined Romney in publicly disagreeing with a controversial ban on gay members of the Boy Scouts of America, one of the nation’s largest and most well-known youth development groups.
“The president believes the Boy Scouts is a valuable organization that has helped educate and build character in American boys for more than a century. He also opposes discrimination in all forms, and as such opposes this policy that discriminates on basis of sexual orientation,” said White House spokesman Shin Inouye in a statement to the Washington Blade, a LGBT newspaper.
It’s the first time Obama, who was named honorary president of the Boy Scouts of America in 2009, has publicly taken a position on the issue.
Romney first voiced support for gay scouts back in 1994 — a position that his campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said remains his position today.
“I feel that all people should be allowed to participate in the Boy Scouts, regardless of their sexual orientation,” Romney said in the video from 1994 recently re-surfaced by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. He added at the time that he supports “the right of the Boy Scouts of America to decide what it wants to do on that issue.”

Last month, the group affirmed its ban on openly gay scouts and leaders after a two-year review of the policy, prompting the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force to call on Obama to “reconsider” his honorary post.

yeah, boy scouts are not about homosexuality.
i know there are women who think the Catholic church ought to have female priests...but they accept the church’s authority.
i think the same is probably true of Mitt’s attitude.
Tex, you're going to be sad as hell if we end up with 8 years of Romney elected on a landslide and steamrolling thee and me and all other conservatives because of the popular mandate FOR his "progressive brand of Republican -- see, people wanted it, they voted for it in droves!" Romney is the path of least resistance. Romney is for chicken-hearted conservatives who cower in fear because the GOP tells them to. Romney is for dead fish who go with the flow.

The Mormon church enrolls about 1/8 of all BSA traditional members. And they have told the BSA that the day they admit openly gay members, the Mormons will take their kids and adults out.

It's like the old Bugs Bunny cartoon with Yosemite Sam on the diving board. Bugs inches closer and closer to the end of the board, each time saying "I DARE ya to cross this line!" Like an idiot, Sam crosses, until he goes off the edge.
Every four years, the GOP-e inches conservatives closer and closer to the left, daring us to vote for someone else, or give up just "a little bit more" of our principles and vote for their pick.

I oppose trying to label an 11-year-old boy as “gay”.
The issue is moot — the boy scouts don’t have a questionaire where they ask the scouts what kind of sex they like to have, and with who.
A-men. There are worse things than 4 years of Obama. Capitulating to the gay agenda by electing Romney would be an even greater disaster.
Ummm, this looks like a grand fence straddle. Does Mitt get a thrill out of those pointy posts? BSA has also been standing at least as much on prudence as on philosophy. They don't want to be left holding the bag for damages after homo monkeyshines leave boys physically and mentally harmed.
Well, either Romney or Obama will be our next president. Choose your poison.
