America - A Horse With No Name+Lyrics

On the first part of the journey,
I was looking at all the life.
There were plants and birds. and rocks and things,
There was sand and hills and rings.
The first thing I met, was a fly with a buzz,
And the sky, with no clouds.
The heat was hot, and the ground was dry,
But the air was full of sound.

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name,
It felt good to be out of the rain.
In the desert you can remember your name,
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain.
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la

After two days, in the desert sun,
My skin began to turn red.
After three days, in the desert fun,
I was looking at a river bed.
And the story it told, of a river that flowed,
Made me sad to think it was dead.

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name,
It felt good to be out of the rain.
In the desert you can remember your name,
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain.
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la

After nine days, I let the horse run free,
'Cause the desert had turned to sea.
There were plants and birds, and rocks and things,
There was sand and hills and rings.
The ocean is a desert, with it's life underground,
And a perfect disguise above.
Under the cities lies, a heart made of ground,
But the humans will give no love.

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name,
It felt good to be out of the rain.
In the desert you can remember your name,
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain.

La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la

Counting Crows - Big yellow taxi

they paved paradise
and put up a parking lot
with a pink hotel, a boutique
and a swinging hot spot

don't it always seem to go
that you don't know what youve got til its gone
they paved paradise
and put up a parking lot

they took all the trees
and put 'em in a tree museum
and they charged the people
a dollar and a half to seem 'em

don't it always seem to go,
that you don't know what youve got
til its gone
they paved paradise
and put up a parking lot

hey farmer farmer
put away the DDT
i dont care about spots on my apples
leave me the birds and the bees
please!

don't it always seem to go
that you don't know what youve got
til its gone
they paved paradise
and put up a parking lot
hey, now they paved paradise
to put up a parking lot
why not?

listenin' late last night
i heard the screen door slam
and a big yellow taxi
took my girl away
now, don't it always seem to go
that you don't know what you've got
til its gone
they paved paradise
and put up a parking lot

hey now, now
Don't it always seem to go
that you don't know what you got
til its gone
they paved paradise
to put up a parking lot

i dont want give it-
why you want give,
why you want give it all away?
hey hey hey
now you want give it,
ah she wanna give it
cause she givin it all away
now now now

Hey pave paradise
put up a parking lot

I love the late 60’s Moody Blues; some of the finest music ever recorded. I almost picked “You and Me” for this thread because of the opening line.

I sang “Rock a bye baby” to my kids, but didn’t like the way it ended with down will go baby cradle and all, so I added:

Rock a bye, now’s the time to go to sleep
Close yours eyes and you will slumber real deep
And the angels will watch over you through the night
Till rock a bye baby wakes to dawn’s light.

When I was visiting my daughter last summer, she heard me singing it to her son and said, “Oh, you know that song, too? I sing it to the kids all the time.”

Pink Floyd, “Fat Old Sun.” Not actually about nature, but it calls up images of sun-drenched meadows and beautiful summer evenings.

Bobby Vinton - Roses Are Red

I liked that song better with a slightly altered refrain:

Jane Fonda's red,
Viloets are blue.
Stalin is dead--
I wish she were, too!
