America - A Horse With No Name+Lyrics

On the first part of the journey,
I was looking at all the life.
There were plants and birds. and rocks and things,
There was sand and hills and rings.
The first thing I met, was a fly with a buzz,
And the sky, with no clouds.
The heat was hot, and the ground was dry,
But the air was full of sound.

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name,
It felt good to be out of the rain.
In the desert you can remember your name,
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain.
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la

After two days, in the desert sun,
My skin began to turn red.
After three days, in the desert fun,
I was looking at a river bed.
And the story it told, of a river that flowed,
Made me sad to think it was dead.

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name,
It felt good to be out of the rain.
In the desert you can remember your name,
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain.
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la

After nine days, I let the horse run free,
'Cause the desert had turned to sea.
There were plants and birds, and rocks and things,
There was sand and hills and rings.
The ocean is a desert, with it's life underground,
And a perfect disguise above.
Under the cities lies, a heart made of ground,
But the humans will give no love.

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name,
It felt good to be out of the rain.
In the desert you can remember your name,
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain.

La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la
La la, la, la la la la, la la la, la, la

Counting Crows - Big yellow taxi

they paved paradise
and put up a parking lot
with a pink hotel, a boutique
and a swinging hot spot

don't it always seem to go
that you don't know what youve got til its gone
they paved paradise
and put up a parking lot

they took all the trees
and put 'em in a tree museum
and they charged the people
a dollar and a half to seem 'em

don't it always seem to go,
that you don't know what youve got
til its gone
they paved paradise
and put up a parking lot

hey farmer farmer
put away the DDT
i dont care about spots on my apples
leave me the birds and the bees
please!

don't it always seem to go
that you don't know what youve got
til its gone
they paved paradise
and put up a parking lot
hey, now they paved paradise
to put up a parking lot
why not?

listenin' late last night
i heard the screen door slam
and a big yellow taxi
took my girl away
now, don't it always seem to go
that you don't know what you've got
til its gone
they paved paradise
and put up a parking lot

hey now, now
Don't it always seem to go
that you don't know what you got
til its gone
they paved paradise
to put up a parking lot

i dont want give it-
why you want give,
why you want give it all away?
hey hey hey
now you want give it,
ah she wanna give it
cause she givin it all away
now now now

Hey pave paradise
put up a parking lot

The Moody Blues: "Send Me No Wine"

Another grape reference. It was the first time that the guys tried out a country song. They didn't do it again until 1983 with "It's Cold Outside of Your Heart", which may well be the greatest song Justin Hayward ever wrote.

We played that song at the end of, the end of the Summer program at a Summer retreat I worked at many years ago.

It made everyone cry so to lighten the mood, we played “Happy Trails” By Roy and Dale Rogers and they began to cry harder.

Mitch had his own TV show and was the head of A&R at Columbia Records for decades. He died only a year (or so) ago at a ripe old age.

Canadian Railroad Trilogy...Gordon Lightfoot. One of the best songs ever written!

“There was a time in this fair land when the railroad did not run
When the wild majestic mountains stood alone against the sun
Long before the white man and long before the wheel
When the green dark FOREST was too silent to be real
But time has no beginnings and hist’ry has no bounds
As to this verdant country they came from all around
They sailed upon her waterways and they walked the FORESTS tall
And they built the mines the mills and the factories for the good of us all”

I heard “Dream Angus” in the movie “The Edge of the World”. I thought it was great and taught it to my Daughter. She would sing it to her babies.

I sang “Hush Little Baby, Don’t Say a Word, Papa’s Gonna Buy You a Mocking Bird” to her when she was a baby. She says she cannot hear that now without getting sleepy.
