St. Louis Post-Dispatch ^ | 8/24/2012 | NICHOLAS J.C. PISTOR

Embattled Senate candidate Todd Akin just told reporters in Chesterfield that he is staying in the Senate race against Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill.

Akin repeated the kinds of statements he'd made previously to national media, asserting that he's never had the support of the Republican party establishment anyway. [...]

With all due respect, what good would abortion do in that case? Would it change the past and have it so the act of rape never occurred?

I admit I don’t know what to do in that regard.

Todd Akin is MORE conservative than Mittens by a long shot. Akin has an A rating with the National Rifle Assoc; a 100% rating with the American Conservative Union; fought Mel Carnahan tooth and nail over no state funding for abortions in MO; voted for the Ryan Fiscal Plan. Akin has NOT caved on his principles ..can you say the same for many other republicans? Blunt wants him out but Blunt voted for the freddie mac and fannie mae bailouts. Akin has a conservative voting record and is exactly the type of senator I want representing me in Washington. He apologized..he made an inane comment. Many great leaders have done the same...I say hang in their Akin. It is rare to have a true conservative run these days and God knows we need them. Screw the GOP E!

Then apparently "intelligent voters" are not numerous enough to carry an election,

It's only a poll -- not an election result. The election isn't for a few months.

Opposing that agenda takes precedence even over removing Obama.

Do you even realize how contradictory that statement is?

You're not "principled", you're simply blind.

their reputation will forever be in the same category as Bob Dole, Mark Foley and Dan Quayle. They will own that defeat and the national results around it.

Hey, hold up there! Why would you put Bob Dole and Dan Quayle in the same category with Mark Foley?

Politically yes. Morally, no.

I don’t advocate abortion at all. I advocate Freedom.

IOW you mean the Freedom to murder your unborn children.

A pro-choice position is a pro abortion position. Liberty does not include the "Freedom" to take the life of another human being. Human life begins at conception. If you don't believe that then you are not a Freeper, you are a troll.

This is not a pro choice forum. This is a pro Liberty forum. Life, Liberty, God, Country. The Constitution's purpose is to secure the blessing of liberty to our posterity not to secure a right to kill them off after God has given them life.

Are we clear on that now?

The main issue here is dethroning Obama, Aiken has only himself to blame for his stupidity and no one else.

Support for Akin is incidental and contingent entirely on whether or not he's the candidate on the ballot in November.

Well he's going to be, so you can work for him or you can work against him. He may not be the brightest bulb on the tree, but he's our bulb and it is our duty now to help make him shine brightly.

Is there a single political position he has taken that is adverse to your own?

We’ve already seen their true socialist, pro-abort colors. Willard has never been one to dirty his own hands. He relies on his consiglieri to do it for him. And we saw how quickly they started up the bus to throw Todd Akin under.

I do have to give it to team willard. They make Machiavelli and alinsky look like a bunch of pikers.

Notice how a lot of posters with “born on” dates of 2009-2012 back Todd Akin?

Well I have a born on date of 2000 newbie. Xzins has a born on date of 1998. Jim Robinson is the Father of this forum. We are all backing Akin now. So get on board, Newbie. He's the candidate. He's a conservative. He's pro-life. He's not perfect but he's the candidate. Got it?

You may be right.

However, I think what's going on is that Hecht is a medical doctor with 25 years of practice who is offended by medical nonsense being circulated. I think he is also a politically conservative Jewish person who is really upset that some incredibly dumb comments by a Midwestern social conservative are causing Republicans lots of problems nationally.

If I were Hecht I think I might share his annoyance. I'm not, and if I were Hecht I hope I would be careful with pedophilia accusations (and some other warnings about keeping dogs away from Akin on other threads).

Hecht, please calm down a little and focus your fire better. You've got some good things to say but this hasn't been one of your better weeks.

You are devoid or reality. Akin can’t win now. His stupidity got him in trouble and now his ego may cost the Republcians MO in the presidential election. I am VERY angry at Todd Akin right now and would tell me off if I could. Why does he really think he deserves this after his STUPID remark? He misspoke. Yes, he did, and the MSM and McCaskill won’t let it die. I can’t stand that woman but is he doesn’t leave, she will win! I understand that. Why can’t Akin?

Clarification — what I was trying to say in post #216 is that I don't think there is any solution to this mess with the Missouri Senate race that won't lead to McCaskill’s re-election unless it involves Akin in some way.

Let me say right up front that I have no inside information whatsoever on Akin’s thought process. I know the man by reputation, I've heard him speak a number of times, I've talked to him several times, but I don't know if he'd even recognize my name. If he does, he probably doesn't know anything about me other than that I've covered several of his campaign events. At the very most, he may realize I'm a conservative, which doesn't necessarily mean very much anymore. We've never even one time discussed social conservative issues.

However, it doesn't take much to realize that even if Akin was totally supportive of a replacement deal — let's say his poll numbers collapse and two weeks from now he knows he will lose so he agrees that he will drop out on condition that he gets to select his replacement — it will be very difficult for any replacement candidate at this point.

Even worse, while Akin and only Akin can pull his name off the ballot, there are ways to force people out. If Akin is somehow forced out and he's upset about the way it's done, his replacement will be severely handicapped.

It's way too early to know what will happen this November, but I think it's obvious to everybody that McCaskill’s chances of re-election have greatly improved no matter what Akin does next.

He might. But if he does it will be in spite of not because of the gop.

For the sake of discussion, let’s just assume that Todd pulls this off. This guy has a fantastic record. If willard was even one third as good of a record as this guy, i’d be on the willard wagon. So let’s say Todd gets elected anyway. Can you imagine how fantastic he could be? A rock ribbed socon with NO political debts owed other than to the people of MO. Gosh, he might even push the infanticide issue in the senate. Wouldn’t that be something new and unusual.

Personally I would have preferred Mme. Steelman, but this guy has some real potential. And he’s made it abundantly clear that he’s staying put. So we really have 2 choices: support someone who has a long conservative record or hand it to ma mccaskill. An easy choice in my book.
