Condoleezza Rice: A star is born?
American Thinker ^ | 08/30/2012 | Rick Moran

Posted on 08/30/2012 9:58:49 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Recall there was a mini-boomlet for Rice when Romney was mulling his choices for vice president. At that time, it was gently pointed out that Ms. Rice, a remarkably intelligent and capable woman, had no experience in electoral politics.

After watching her excellent speech last night, I wonder if that isn't about to change.

Wall Street Journal:

In a clear highlight of the evening, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice gave a moving address to delegates at the Republican convention, broadly criticizing President Barack Obama's record without ever mentioning him by name.

She made the case for the U.S. to continue to be a leader in the world. "Where does America stand?" she asked. "You see, when friends or foes alike don't know the answer to that question unambiguously and clearly, the world is likely to be a more dangerous and chaotic place."

And she sounded a much softer note on immigration than many Republicans support, but issued a strong warning on education.  "Our greatest ally in controlling your response to your circumstances has been a quality education. But today, today when I can look at your ZIP Code and I can tell whether you're going to get a good education, can I honestly say it doesn't matter where you came from?"  She added: "The crisis in K-12 education is a threat to the very fabric of who we are."

Ms. Rice gravely described the challenges facing the country while at the same time, still sounding optimistic about the nation's future.

"The challenge is real, and the times are hard, but America has met and overcome hard challenges before," she told the delegates.

America, she said, "has a way of making the impossible seem inevitable in retrospect. But ... It took leadership, and it took courage, and it took belief in our values."

No. She had her chance and is pro choice. However, Ryan’s star is shining brightly.

Where is she gonna go? The top 2 spots are taken and she already served in the cabinet. Calif Governor maybe but the state will have to continue downward and even then the people don’t get it.

An inspiring speech that any American should be proud of, by a brilliant and accomplished woman.

I would say the same thing regardless of her race or political affiliation. And I hope she reconsiders her political ambitions at some future time.

I don’t trust her any more. Didn’t she align with zero after he was elected? Partied with the dems etc?

If this article were written in 2001, sure, she's an exciting new name for the GOP at the national level, and had enormous potential.

In 2012, hell no. Guess all that "hope and change" she gushed about in 2008 didn't work out. Too bad, you had your chance. Now go away, Condi.

She is bright, well spoken and not a flaming liberal.

But she belongs in academia - not in a republican government.

She was a terrible Sec. of State in the Bush Years.

Let it be.

I like her a lot.

She is very controlled in her delivery but I occasionally see flashes of raw emotion there which are, for me, more powerful for being so tightly controlled.

Condi's a good follower, but she's no leader.

If she was in the military, she'd make a great staff officer, just keep her as far from troops as possible.

Please. If she was a white male named "Dr. Connor Rice" with the same mediocre record as Secretary of State and RINOish beliefs (pro-abortion, pro-illegal alien, pro LOST treaty, praised Obama's election in 2008, etc.), freepers wouldn't give him the time of day and "Dr. Connor Rice" speech would be as well received as Chris Shays or John McCain.

“You see, the essence of America, what really unites us, is not nationality or ethnicity or religion. It is an idea. And what an idea it is. That you can come from humble circumstances and you can do great things, that it does not matter where you came from, it matters where you are going.”

“And on a personal note, a little girl grows up in Jim Crow
Birmingham. The segregated city of the south where her parents cannot take her to a movie theater or to restaurants, but they have convinced that even if she cannot have it hamburger at Woolworths, she can be the president of the United States if she wanted to be, and she becomes the Secretary of State.”

Condi is a brilliant woman, and a true American, and she probably does a good job at Stanford. I’m happy for her, and wish her much success at her job. May she live happily ever after there.

Condi’s speach has been the best one delivered at the convention by far, sadly it was about foreign policy more than anything else, which to the US electorate sadly she might as well have been speaking a foreign language.

She absolutely articulated the importance and unique place America holds in the world and the incredible danger this administration has placed not only the united states but the world in and why by its behavior. It was a FAR FAR more scathing indictment of the current administration than Ryan’s, or anyone elses for that matter, but again since it was foreign policy for the most part, most of the electorate will sadly tune it out.

My opinion as well, and I'm a major Condi fan. She was awfully good as head of the National Security Council, though, IMHO. A bit too cerebral for popular appeal if the topic is electoral politics, but in a position such as U.S. Ambassador to the UN, it would be fascinating to see which side of her would emerge, the internationalist or the exceptionalist. I'd love to see her as Ambassador to Russia, too. It's her specialty, she's fluent in the language, and she just might kick Pooty's butt for him.
