Reader: “At huge Jacksonville Landing Romney-Ryan event – place is insanely packed”
Legal Insurrection ^ | September 1, 2012 | William Jacobson

Posted on 09/01/2012 8:02:38 PM PDT by lasereye

So writes reader Jim, who sends along several photos from the Romney-Ryan rally in Jacksonville which is starting as of this writing. (added: Prof. Reynolds also is posting reader photos)

He further writes: “Line for RomneyRyan Jax Landing event – two lines both way longer than this appears”:

Jacksonville Landing was absolutely electric with I would estimate two to three thousand people screamIng for Romney and Ryan. It was a total blast to be there. It was literally one of the most fun things I have ever done.

The warm up speakers included Jennifer Carroll, the African-American Republican Lieutenant Governor of Florida.

Speaking of that, I am surprised at how many African-Americans were there – there were a lot.

Tons of military veterans too.

Romney and Ryan both look fantastic up close. Ryan is obviously in superb physical condition and Mitt looks great too. Their speeches were great and covered some of the same ground as their convention speeches, but they also totally hammered Obama for the unemployment rate, the drop in average family income of $4000, which I don’t recall hearing before, the national debt, huge cuts to defense spending looming, etc. Mitt also reiterated his 5-point plan. The crowd loved it.

Ann Romney spoke for several minutes too, and she was great.

But the best part was after the speeches were over and Mitt and Paul Ryan came down from the stage to shake hands with the people. Mitt really tried to connect with everyone he could. I pressed forward and eventually got to shake his hand. He had a firm handshake and looked me right in the eye for a split second. I actually forget what I said to him because it was such an insane moment.

I was actually a little afraid because so many people were pushing behind me to get a chance to shake Mitt’s hand. It was totally insane. Like a mosh pit at a rock concert, like maybe an AC/DC or Led Zeppelin concert!

The level of enthusiasm for this ticket was shockingly high in Jacksonville.

And outside I counted 9, yes 9, lame protestors wearing purple SEIU shirts and screeching unintelligibly. It was perfect.

Soooo tired of this idiotic statement. It’s said every four years, without fail.

If it isn’t close they cannot cheat.

Wouldn't it be funny if an official government organization added fake names in tight swing precincts to see if some group was voting the people who don't show up to vote? Folks in Milwaukee are 'discovering' a lot of people on the roles don't seem to exist... people who have been 'voting' for years. Might be 'cover your ass' time...

Also I believe the Romney teams decision to use the “bringing America back” theme as opposed to the slash and burn negativity of the Obama campaign is playing very very, well across the country.

You're right - it's the best ground game for this stage... many of us are impressed with the Romney/Ryan team - and pleasantly surprised by how well they're doing...

as a SEIU slave, I can imagine how hard it is for you to grasp the possibility of Obama losing. We are spending a trillion dollars a month nationally. More money for schools isn’t a solution. Spending money to make better parents for students is one way to make better students.
As a teacher, you should realize, every election is important and each persom has a opinion on it’s importance.

but I'm not hearing the followup which should be "we'll get the government out of your way." I'm just hearing "our government will do better than Obama's government."

You need to get your hearing checked.

In a clean break from the Obama years, and frankly from the years before this president, we will keep federal spending at 20 percent of GDP, or less. That is enough. The choice is whether to put hard limits on economic growth, or hard limits on the size of government, and we choose to limit government.
None of us have to settle for the best this administration offers – a dull, adventureless journey from one entitlement to the next, a government-planned life, a country where everything is free but us.
Listen to the way we’re spoken to already, as if everyone is stuck in some class or station in life, victims of circumstances beyond our control, with government there to help us cope with our fate.
It’s the exact opposite of everything I learned growing up in Wisconsin, or at college in Ohio. When I was waiting tables, washing dishes, or mowing lawns for money, I never thought of myself as stuck in some station in life. I was on my own path, my own journey, an American journey where I could think for myself, decide for myself, define happiness for myself. That’s what we do in this country. That’s the American Dream. That’s freedom, and I’ll take it any day over the supervision and sanctimony of the central planners.

Thanks for your welcome.

Don’t know if the Des Moines Register is a lib rag, most papers are.

I don’t know for sure if he made any other stops in Iowa. From what I have so far learned there was just this one.

ok..did you visit this news paper you posted???
I just did...

read article and saw the pictures and they were mostly ‘mug’ shots of individuals, NO crowd pictures..article full of nonsense, at end there were three comments...THREE

and one stated that B Hussein O. made two stops in Iowa yesterday one in Sioux city that claimed 10,000 then 2,800 and they all have to go through a security check as the thin skinned one is scared of his shadow, the poster said that the 10,000 was actually at a rally in URBANDALE, Iowa but did not find an article and of course NO PICTURE, as I said before.....

BELIEVE HALF OF THE LIBERAL MEDIA AND THAT IS PROBABLY A LIE AS WELL...

Y'ALL HAVE A BLESSED REMAINDER OF THIS DAY...

I live near Living History Farms in Urbandale (Des Moines). No way were 10,000 people there, though there certainly were thousands.

I have no idea how Mormons conduct their services, but I’ll bet a pound to a penny that Romney never sat and listened to the words “God damn America” in his church.

you are right...

only Rev. Wright, Hussein's pastor, would speak like that..if my minister spoke like that it would be the LAST service of his I would hear..

That is rather likely. I believe the LDS feels destined to become America’s church, the 1st Amendment notwithstanding.

Yes I have seen many STATE entitlement programs dismantled, but NOT FEDERAL. All republican governors are slashing spending as we speak. Federals can print money, so they just keep the Ponzi scheme going.

I like some of those statements from Ryan. He speaks like a true supply sider and that's the only section of a speech that came close to sounding like getting rid of government was a goal of this ticket. 20% of GDP seems too high though. That's where we were under Bush 2 and we were racking up debt then. The Gingrich Congress had us down to 17-18%. Romney himself never talks like a supply sider. The main message from Romney is a variation on "repeal and replace." And talking about tax cuts isn't enough. Bush did that, but he still sought to expand government spending and went into debt to do it. With Romney it's a combination of not hearing the small-government philosophy explained definitively and not hearing enough specifics to counteract the doubts that come in the absence of that message. I'm with these Texans...

Texans skeptical Romney-Ryan will make cuts

TAMPA, Fla. - Mitt Romney may have thought he was adding some budget-cutting credibility when he picked Rep. Paul Ryan to be his running mate, but many Texans at the Republican National Convention said they aren't convinced that the presidential candidate has the will or the skill to pare federal spending.

"Romney claims to be very fiscally conservative, but I haven't seen much evidence of (that)," said Philip Eby, from Clifton. "I'm not sure what he can do to convince me. He's held so many different positions … it's hard to believe him."

Robert Lowry, a first-time delegate from an area north of Fair Oaks, Texas, said he hasn't heard enough details on how Romney and Ryan are "going to make the government smaller." "That's what we're not hearing," Lowry said.

Mr, RedNeck,

You’re theoretical scenario is a false choice. No baptist President would say that. Just as no Mormon candidate, has, would or will say that.

I would say that we should save our powder for the real enemy.
