During the collapse of Rhodesia the British defense forces were forced by the UN blockade of supplies to order their people to keep their weapons selected to single fire. I was in Balt and witnessed it first hand. First, the death of King was not comparable to ending welfare. Second, all of the rioting was in the black community. It was lawless thugs and thieves, not a principled reaction to oppression.

Welfare started long before The Great Society. I worked in the welfare establishment beginning in 1963. It was obvious that the system at that time existed to perpetuate poverty. Were there thugs in 1960’s? When were there not?

I’m going to be blunt — I don’t care what happens to the “urban” population anymore. They’ve made it clear that they don’t want help, they bite the hand that feeds them, and won’t lift a finger to help themselves or get themselves out of their predicament. Half want just to grouse, and the other half want blood revenge.

I hate to be callous but as time goes on, I'm beginning to agree with you. Heck, my 74 year old mother said the same thing as you. Yes, I think government and White Guilt started all of these handouts and in turn, really made the radicals pushing the "kill Whitey" rhetoric to much higher levels. It takes two to dance, not only we need to stop the handouts, the members of the minority communities need to realize they need to stop their radicals and radical thoughts. I know not all minorities do think like the radicals do, but when you hear cases like 90% plus voted for the Bamster and Democrats, if I was a lawyer, I'd say to them, "you're making it hard for me to prove my case."

It is people struggling against an oppressive and manipulative government to climb out of the pit that has been designed and forced upon them by wicked politicians.

So tell us, then, how Vietnamese immigrants, moving here with literally just the shirts on their backs, moved into the same neighborhoods and sent their kids to the same schools, and have lifted themselves and their kids out of those neighborhoods and into the middle class and to college, to where they no longer need welfare?

I agree there are those in that population who would gladly take a job if one was available. But you are dealing with a culture that shuns those who try to get a good education. So many are largely unemployable in our modern economy.

I've had a Black co-worker who said the same thing and does not like what most in his community thinks. He told the story about where if you put say Jews, Asians, Whites, whatever into a barrel where a few are able to crawl up and make it, they will put their hands down to help pull the others up and out and/or work together to get the few up there and then in turn, they will help the rest up and out.

He said, the mentality of the Black community at large is if you out them in the same barrel and those few make it to the top and put their hands down to help the others, the others will stay and say, "hey, you're doing the White Man thing, you're making us look bad, wait until our long legged Mack Daddy shakes down Whitey first." That's the problem we face.

It could very well come to pass whether he wins ... or loses. The urban masses do not blame Obama for their poverty. They see him as their benefactor. If he loses, they will fear the loss of their perks. If he wins, they see it as a signal to take more.

Urban riots are an old story in Europe. Among the first welfare states was the Kingdom of Naples, where every form of what we know as welfare was institutionalized. But, quartered among the citizens were light cavalry, infantry, and light artillery regiments who were called forth to sweep the streets whenever the food or wine allowance (don't laugh ..welfare bozos in France, Italy, and Argentina still get one!)got cut. The riots were bloody, but brief!

The major difference, as Bracken points out, is going to be that it would be extremely foolish for us to think that the government will automatically take the side of those who would wish to remain peaceful
