Same-Sex Marriage Supporters Lose in Rhode Island

Five of the six Rhode Island Senate candidates who support same-sex marriage lost during the state’s Democratic primaries Wednesday, despite massive backing from special-interest groups.

“The Rhode Island Senate looks like it will again be safe for defending marriage as the union of one man and one woman,” National Organization for Marriage Northeast Director Chris Plante told CitizenLink.

Incumbent Sen. Mike McCaffrey, who supports marriage and the right to life, beat Laura Pisaturo, who supports same-sex marriage.

In addition to Pisaturo, the other same-sex marriage supporters challenging incumbents or vying for open seats who lost Wednesday are David Gorman, Gene Dyszlewski, Lewis Pryeor, and Robert DaSilva. Adam Satchell scored a victory over Sen. Michael Pinga, making him the only state Senate candidate supporting same-sex marriage to win Wednesday night.

Rhode Island has had a law allowing same-sex civil unions since last year; however, only 68 same-sex couples statewide have obtained those licenses in the state, according to The Boston Globe.

“The sanctity of marriage is on a knife’s edge in Rhode Island, quite honestly,” Plante said. “Speaker of the House Gordon Fox has announced that he will have a vote on redefining marriage in January, and we are looking to the Rhode Island Senate to defend marriage as one man and one woman.”

We also had an upset in Rensselaer County NY where the incumbent, who changed his position on ssm and voted in favor of it last year, lost in the primary.

Thank the people at Rhode Island Right to Life who tirelessly work to get pro life (pro marriage) candidates elected.

the state reps and elected officials fool themselves into thinking most want this perversion because of all the special interest groups which come out and be vocal.

On voting day the people speak and the reps then wonder why they lose.

Hey, gays are the real 1%ers.

The other 99% need to stop trying to appease them.

Amazing. This happened in highly secular, profane, lapsed-Catholic, heavily-unionized Rhode Island. Who’da thunk it?

thanks for that link.
So we have less than two % and yet we have the media and the elected officials running scared and all because they act vocal and get themselves into the likes of the media/

The liberal propaganda now is the majority of Americans support gay marriage, but the facts show they can’t even get a majority of the people on their side in heavily DemocRAT states like New York, or even in DemocRAT party primaries in Rhode Island. They’re desperate to avoid letting voters weigh in on the matter because they lose every time. The only way they can legalize gay marriage is by having activist judges force it on the population.

The elected officials run scared of the 2% probably because the 2% ARE the media.

I'm just sayin'....
