When Errol Emrich drove by a Shell station in his San Jose neighborhood last weekend, regular gas was selling for $4.05 a gallon. On Monday, it was $4.15. On Tuesday, $4.25. And this weekend? Analysts say it could reach a whopping $4.40. Problems at California refineries have slashed supplies across the state, cutting fuel production and raising wholesale prices -- the price stations pay for their gasoline -- by as much as 73 cents, to levels not seen since 2007. And that almost certainly will boost prices at the pump again soon. "California gasoline prices may surge in the next five days, perhaps to levels higher than February's $4.33-a-gallon average," said Patrick DeHaan, an analyst with Gasbuddy.com. "It is within the realm of possibility that average prices reach near $4.40 or even higher if the situation worsens."

I have a Jaguar that also requires premium. Bought it new 5 yrs ago and have never used it. I go to the dollar store and buy a bunch of bottles of octane booster. Put one in before every fill up. Never once heard a ping or could tell any difference. Has saved me a ton of money.
My car insurance dropped exactly in half when I moved out of Harris County in Houston to the suburbs. Also save a whole lot of money because I don’t have to have an alignment quite so often. Just some of the benefits of not living in the city.

Over inflate your tires to get better gas mileage. Just kidding don’t do this as it could endanger your life.
I do have a suggestion, however, to lower gas prices. How about the temporary removal of all Federal and State Taxes.

Two days ago, $4.03 at an ARCO in Long Beach.
Tonight, $4.35 at the same station.
By Sunday, I’m guessing $4.55 or more.
That’s one solution. We have pure gas (no ethanol) at one station in Pocatello. Not available in San Diego :-( Thanks for the pointer. It may provide a viable alternative if premium becomes unavailable.
You rent a horse at the neighborhood livery stable and ice is delivered from a wagon on Thursdays.
It depends on your starting point for the gas price. My pay has not increased three-fold in the last four years.

Public employee unions take a percentage of their members dues and send for political lobbying and campaign donations.
Their is an obscure federal law that members can withhold that % and donate to non-profits etc. It’s called in-kind contributions.
However, neither the unions nor the state tell the employees they can withhold that portion of their dues and pay in-kind.
a few years ago, “we” voted to not require the unions to tell the members about this., after the unions did a lot of misleading ads.
My wife withheld her political contribution because the union gave money to politicians who support abortion. It took the union 2 weeks to “find” the form and three officers tried to talk her out of it.
32 will require information and more employees will opt out if they don’t ;ike where the union spends their money.
I support prohibiting unions and contractors from donating to those who they negotiate their contracts with, but don’t know how to get it passed. The current system is merely a different form of bribery and the tax payers suffer.
