Once-reluctant Mitt Romney opens up on the campaign trail - “Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose!”

ST. PETERSBURG,Fla.—Mitt Romney, his friends often say, is a private man in a public world. But with just one month left until the election, he has calculated that to win the presidency he must do what for years he has been loath to: share intimate stories about his life.

So it was that as the sun set on his rally here Friday night,...Romney talked about David for the first time himself.

“It was clear he was not going to make it,”Romney said. “I went into his room one night when he was in bed,and he asked me a very difficult question. He said, ‘Mitt, what’s next?’ He called me ‘Brother Romney.’ ‘What’s next?’ And I talked to him about what I believe is next.”

A few days later, when David was in the hospital,he called Romney.

“I was at work and he said,‘Can you come by?’ And he said,‘You went to law school, right?'”

Romney told him yes. “He said,‘Could you come by and write my will for me?'” Romney recalled. “So I went to David’s bedside and got a piece of legal paper, made it look very official. And then David proceeded to tell me what he wanted to give his friends. Talked about his fishing rod, and who would get that. He talked about his skateboard, who’d get that. And his rifle — that went to his brother.”

“I’ve seen the character of a young man like David,” Romney continued. “He had his eyes wide open. There’s a saying — Clear eyes, full heart, can’t lose.’ David couldn’t lose. I loved that young man.”

It just so happens that a banner with the same adage hung over Romney’s holding room backstage at Wednesday night’s debate in Denver. As he walked out to debate the president,Romney looked up and read, “Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose!”

And I’ll just lay odds that you worship Bill Clinton, a known rapist and adulterer. Take your hypocrisy elsewhere.

“Mitt is evolving. I guess its ok for the liar-in-chief to evolve on issues, but not Mitt - huh? By voting for Obama you are partaking in his evil deeds. See how easy it is to turn this back on you?”

I don’t know about you, but supporting TARP, Stimulus and RomneyCare on a national level, and then outright saying that he NEVER supported those things, isn’t evolution. It’s lying. The same thing can be sead for a multitude of other positions. He does not “evolve.” He is merely a historical revisionist. A liar, in other words, who is always reinventing himself. Obama is also a liar, mind you, but I shall not follow you lemmings off the cliff in blind adoration of this guy.

So if I don’t worship Bill Clinton, I guess that makes YOU the hypocrite? I am NOT the same as you.

The founders of our country believed in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
They fought an oppressive regime that was clamping down on them, telling them what they could or could not do, seizing their guns, taxing their meat and their bread.

The ideals we started with were what made this country great. At the time of it founding, we were basically one people, primarily British, primarily Protestant. We WERE NOT diverse and divided.

These days, politicians seem to think that what would make America strong again is giving free cell phones to people.

How low we have sunk...

To the others here... if you want to spend 40 minutes of your time watching a video attack on Mitt Romney that I suppose is meant to convince you to vote for Obama then I highly recomend following RaisingCain’s youtube link. If you would rather spend 40 minutes you will never get back doing something productive to help others then I would suggest skipping it.

RaisingCain, is doing everything you can everyday to help Obama get reelected really worth all of the turmoil that you are putting yourself through? I can tell that you are conflicted and I am sorry for you. Unfortunately, you are fighting a rising tide and you are going to feel a lot worse as election time approaches and Obama’s chances get slimmer and slimmer. What we witnessed in the debate the other night was not just a small setback... it was a turning point. Don't worry though after the election there will be time for you to heal.

Good point, and I honestly don’t think either of the Obama’s have any acts of charitableness on a personal level to share. I don’t even think the Obama’s have any real friends or family for that matter. This was glaringly obvious at the end of the debate. No one likes them, except for political purposes. Self absorbed losers.

“I’m not a fan of Mitt, but I am a fan of the NBC show Friday Night Lights. Coach Eric Taylor’s rallying cry for his team was “Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose.” His character was one of the few positive portrayals of a husband/father on network tv in recent years”

Yup. myself and the Wife didn't pick up on this series until it hit Netflix. We watched the whole Series this Winter/Spring. We really miss it since it was canceled a year plus ago. The Female lead from FNL is in this new Nashville Series as the older Country Singer.

You should write “all” in the “to” section if you aren’t directing this at me.

You do not care that there is demonstrable proof, from Romney’s own mouth, that he is a liar. But, instead, want me to sit down and shut up when people make the claim that Romney is a man of character, family values, and has the providence of God on his back. And then you accuse me of being self-righteous for not praising a liar etc etc etc.

Your “wave” is a wave of self-delusion and cult of personality, and the “healing” you want me to undergo is to betray my God and embrace liars and thieves as “godly” men.

I can understand the ABO argument. But selling my soul and spreading this guy’s lies for him?

Count me out.

Yeah. I miss the show. I have followed some of the cast to other shows they’ve migrated to, with mixed results. I liked The Chicago Code (Matt Lauria) but it only lasted one season. I’ll be checking out Nashville with Connie Britton next.

Here is a video I have been sharing everywhere I can. If you listen to it carefully, especially the way he counseled and helped a man definitely out of favor with the Mormon Church, you will get a peek inside Mitt’s heart. I post it with a simple caption, Spread the Word about Mitt’s Heart..

There is still lots of work to do...

PLEASE, if you been sitting on the sidelines, your country, especially your young military need you now.

No one on this forum even Romney’s more ardent supporters worship him. You should know that despite your negativity. You joined April 15, 2012 just in time to be negative? Lighten up, bless your heart.

Maybe not, but they are making him out to be something he is not, and don’t like it when their bubble gets popped. It’s cult of personality no matter how you slice it.

You know it wouldn't be so hard for you to tell us a heart warming story of something nice that you have done. It could even be political.

I will start and give an example: One morning when I was on my way into work I heard on the radio that President Reagan would be coming to our town in just a couple of hours. I called my friends and asked them to meet me. I made a huge sign using three sheets of plywood that said “Tacoma Loves You Mr. President” and we took it to a spot where the president's motorcade was suppose to pass.

There were hundreds of people at the same spot protesting, dressed up as skeletons and all sorts of yelling and nastiness going on. But my friends and I braved their jeering and we held up our sign and soon a small group of people who we didn't know gathered with us and the large crowd of nasty people got tired of bothering us and eventually left us alone.

Local newspaper and TV reporters came by and talked to us and got our pictures. Despite being outnumbered ten to one... guess whose picture ended up covering half of the front page of The Seattle Times? The protesters, some who had come all the way down from Canada got a little picture in the back. A couple of weeks later I got a letter signed by President Reagan thanking us, and a week after that I got another letter along with a picture of the president that was suitable for framing, along with a copy of the newspaper article. From what was written it seemed that the president actually had been made aware of our presence and was sincerely thankful.

So now RaisingCain, put a smile on your face and share something nice about yourself. People will probably still ignore you, but at least they won't be thinking mean thoughts about you for a change.

“You know it wouldn’t be so hard...

... for me to quote Mitt Romney lying, and then changing his position, and then lying that he changed his position. IOW, the only logical argument to be made against someone who, for some odd reason, insists that I confess Romney to be something I know he is not.

I don't think anybody on this website "worships" Mitt Romney. In fact, I don't think anybody in America does, for that matter. Don't confuse supporting Romney for president with worshipping him. As for Romney's religion, that's his business. I don't presume to cast judgement upon him and neither should you. Let God sort it out.

If Mitt Romney is elected and he carries out the duties of president in accordance with our Constitution, that is good enough for me.

Our current president does NOT respect our Constitution, is a socialist/marxist and he is totally incompetent and unsuited for the position he is in. And speaking of religion, he's about as Christian as the Ayatollah.

Mitt Romney may not be our ideal candidate but he will make a far better president than Barack Obama and it is for that reason that I am supporting (not worshipping) him.

Thank you for the link, that is a very heart warming video. I didn’t start out as one of Mitt’s big fans, but the truth is starting to come out despite the 100s of millions of dollars that are being spent to villainize him. I am also getting tired of a few of the posters here who are doing their best to villainize him.

Apparently you have no idea how you come across to most of the rest of us. Some friendly advice - save your rant until after the election.

It’s funny that you all want me to worship Romney

Worship? Nonsense. You're exaggerating, and your demeanor is entirely too caustic, IMHO.

Hey, Mitt is starting to sound pretty decent right now. This is the man we have to learn to appreciate if 0bama is to be replaced in 2012. Mitt's trying to close the deal with voters right now, and he's finally starting to hit his stride and demonstrate his competence and viability.

Another thing which is pushing me into Mitt's corner is the vehemence and dishonesty of the media. In our lifetimes, none of us have ever seen such a high level of transparent complicity in the media. The media are trying to prop 0bama up in the most corrupt way, and they are similarly trying to tear Romney down with all their might. For that reason alone, I see that they fear Romney, and when they're afraid that their ideology is threatened, that's a good thing for patriots.

The TEA party crowd will keep Romney in line. If Romney wins, and is smart enough to embrace the core ideals upon which this nation was built, he could end up being a great President. I can hardly believe I'm typing this, but I see the potential at play here.

On the other hand, Romney could instead look more like 0bama lite, and we'll still be screwed. But at this point, I see enough substantive difference between the two that I think Romney deserves a chance and I will cast my vote for him, barring some unforeseen development.

It's a good idea to get to know Romney. He was impressive in the debate, and not just because 0bama wasn't. I have a lot of problems with several of Romney's policy ideas, but that doesn't mean I think he's not a decent human being, just like Bush was. Decent men can be quite flawed.

But at this point, I believe the mainstream populace as a whole is ready to give the guy a chance. He's making the sale.
