Once-reluctant Mitt Romney opens up on the campaign trail - “Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose!”

ST. PETERSBURG,Fla.—Mitt Romney, his friends often say, is a private man in a public world. But with just one month left until the election, he has calculated that to win the presidency he must do what for years he has been loath to: share intimate stories about his life.

So it was that as the sun set on his rally here Friday night,...Romney talked about David for the first time himself.

“It was clear he was not going to make it,”Romney said. “I went into his room one night when he was in bed,and he asked me a very difficult question. He said, ‘Mitt, what’s next?’ He called me ‘Brother Romney.’ ‘What’s next?’ And I talked to him about what I believe is next.”

A few days later, when David was in the hospital,he called Romney.

“I was at work and he said,‘Can you come by?’ And he said,‘You went to law school, right?'”

Romney told him yes. “He said,‘Could you come by and write my will for me?'” Romney recalled. “So I went to David’s bedside and got a piece of legal paper, made it look very official. And then David proceeded to tell me what he wanted to give his friends. Talked about his fishing rod, and who would get that. He talked about his skateboard, who’d get that. And his rifle — that went to his brother.”

“I’ve seen the character of a young man like David,” Romney continued. “He had his eyes wide open. There’s a saying — Clear eyes, full heart, can’t lose.’ David couldn’t lose. I loved that young man.”

It just so happens that a banner with the same adage hung over Romney’s holding room backstage at Wednesday night’s debate in Denver. As he walked out to debate the president,Romney looked up and read, “Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose!”

“Apparently you have no idea how you come across to most of the rest of us. Some friendly advice - save your rant until after the election.”

I bet I sound like an angry conservative who doesn’t want to anoint Mitt Romney a saint due to the documented evidence of his pathological lying to not just conservatives, but the American public at large. You guys sound to me like a bunch of loyal tribal voters who want to worship their candidate, just like they’re expected to every 4 years.

That’s because you’re in tribal mode and hate anybody who disagrees with you. Just like Democrats hate anyone who disagrees with them. But then both sides belittle each other as if one is superior to another, and that their particular pathological lying candidate is a saint among men. That leaves me out in the cold, staring aghast at an election, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

I am a Christian. I believe that the Mormon church is a false church.

However, I do believe that Romney is a decent, moral human being. I’d rather vote for Romney, a Mormon, than a “born again Christian” like Jimmy Carter or a “Bible carrying Christian” like Bill Clinton.

And I would never vote for a guy who belonged to Rev. Wright’s church for 20 years.

I’ll be voting for Romney over Obama in November and after he wins, we’ll try to hold his feet to the fire.

It leaves you out in the cold, hating and belittling anyone who disagrees with you.

I saw no hate in this thread till you showed up.

“However, I do believe that Romney is a decent, moral human being.”

You’re wrong, because a decent moral human being “evolves,” but does not lie to our faces while spreading propaganda stories about his good character. He even lies about the LDS, which you confess is a false church which he will, no doubt, be the vehicle for normalizing.

But his religion wasn’t the central part of my problem, as even Beck I would vote for, but Mitt? I can’t get over the fact that we have two immoral people to choose from.

“I’ll be voting for Romney over Obama in November and after he wins, we’ll try to hold his feet to the fire.”

Good luck! It’s not going to happen though, they already fixed the game with the rules changes over at the RNC. It’ll be ABH next time (Anybody but Hillary) or whatever goon the Democrats dig up.

But, this is a better message than saying “Romney is a good and moral man, who by the providence of God was the right man at the right time.” Holding his “feet to the fire,” at least, is a statement that reflects reality of who he is, even if I doubt you can do it!

“Aaaaahhh! Don’t you feel all “Holier Than Thou”, now...?”

What’s funny is that the self-righteous attitude is what compels people to proclaim their chosen political candidate a saint among men, ignoring their numerous crimes without questioning anything. It’s a way to feel connected to something higher, instead of the real truth, which is that the world is a farce, which will soon come to tragedy, and back to farce again, and we are all bit players, marching morons, following other bit players into the ditch.

I have no control over the election, and neither do any of you actually. But we fight together here as if it matters. You can believe whatever you like, but don’t expect me to not enjoy the time by pointing out that Myth Romney is just as pathological as his opponent.

That is the first thing I noticed - it is always a story with another Mormon.

Visited a small Presbyterian church in a small Mormon college-town in Utah and they were very proud of their new door.

One guy told me how they had it for two years before anyone would hang it for them. It was a very special kind of door and needed the proper technician. All of the ones in the area were Mormans, and wouldn’t do the work. I said “Well I can sort of see that as it is a church that they think is evil.”

“Well, its not just the churches - it is almost impossible to get a job in town if you aren’t Morman”.

I doubt anyone is mistaking you for a conservative.

I’m still not sure why they let you come back after being zotted.

We're not talking about giving Romney a greeting.

We're talking about a vote for proper governance.

Are you for Romney's opponent, and for the idea the humans ought to accept worship from one another (see Obama "temple" nomination acceptance, Denver, CO, 2008)?

"I bet I sound like an angry conservative who..." <SNIP>

No, you sound like a leftist shill who has infiltrated FR, and is hiding behind very real hypocritical holier-than-thou personal, pseudo-religious, judgement of another human being -- and are feeling selfrighteously-overproud of yourself for being an anal sphincter.

~~~~~~~~~
Our Lord made it very clear what He thinks of your sort -- and it is definitely nothing nothing any of the rest of us would aspire to achieve...
Bottom line: you befoul the atmosphere for kilometers around yourself. Get off of our forum!
That’s just the tip of the iceberg, just one of many reasons why I can do nothing but mistrust this man, especially when he confirms it through his double-talk.
You should research how the LDS handles ex-Mormons. If he or she grew up in a Mormon family, their Bishops pressure the family to shun the individual. Cut contact. Many of them are afraid to even say outloud that they no longer believe, as beyond the family angle, it could bite them in the butt for employment.
I’d give a greater benefit of the doubt to Glenn Beck maybe, but Mitt Romney behaves just like the leadership of his church behaves: Deceptive, but always smiling with good hair. They are masters of revisionist history, and Mitt Romney does the same thing!
Sure, I’ll get out, after you demonstrate one false statement that I have made about Mitt Romney.
That’s the major disconnect here none of you seem to get. You want me to shut up about Mitt not being a saint, but it is disconnected from the reality of the situation.
You read the scripture wrong. It was saying not to say “God speed” to a corrupt person, because anyone who does so is a partaker of their evil deeds.
Mittbots on the forum want us to say “God speed!” to Mitt, connecting Mitt with the use of the name of God, despite the reality of who he is. It was the guy who mentioned the “providence of God” in the first place who p***ed me off.
I can understand the ABO argument. Even Jim has embraced it. But what isn’t necessary is to embrace developing a cult of personality around a man who has been proven to be a pathological liar.
