Surge Earns Romney Room on the Right
Wall Street Journal ^ | Oct. 11, 2012 | COLLEEN MCCAIN NELSON

Mitt Romney would likely have raised eyebrows, if not protest, had he said during the Republican primaries that "no legislation with regards to abortion" would be part of his agenda, that federal regulation is "essential'' or that young illegal immigrants should be able to keep work permits granted by President Barack Obama.

GOP nominee Mitt Romney speaks Thursday with the Rev. Billy Graham, center, and his son, Franklin, at the Grahams' cabin in Montreat, N.C. . But conservative leaders and activists, some of whom worried about the firmness of Mr. Romney's commitment to their causes earlier this year, say they are unconcerned about those and other recent comments that have brought a more centrist cast to the Republican presidential nominee's profile.

With Mr. Romney within striking distance or leading Mr. Obama in opinion polls, many social conservatives, evangelicals and tea-party members say their focus is on winning, not on parsing his statements for signs of moderation. They say they are confident that, if elected, he would govern from the right.

On Thursday, Mr. Obama ratcheted up his argument that his Republican rival is trying to give himself a policy makeover.

"After running for more than year in which he called himself 'severely conservative,' Mitt Romney is trying to convince you that he was severely kidding," Mr. Obama said on a trip to Florida. "Look, what he was selling was not working, because people understood his ideas wouldn't help the middle class. So these days, Mitt Romney's for whatever you're for."

A Romney campaign official said assertions that Mr. Romney had shifted some positions were a result of a monthslong advertising blitz by the Obama campaign that misrepresented the GOP candidate's record. Mr. Romney's positions and profile don't match the distorted version the Democrats created, the official said.

I’ve decide abortion is not an issue. Think about it. Supposedly there are 5 pro life justices on the supreme court and abortion is still legal. We’ve had Ford, Reagan, Bush I and Bush II and abortion is still legal. So apparently a president can’t or won’t do anything about it.

The liberals are seeing that the only way they can win this is to erode conservative support for Romney over his squishy record on abortion.

>> I’ve decide abortion is not an issue. Think about it.

Life is always an issue. And the only thing that matters is the reduction of killing innocence. There are many ways to present this in its intrinsically positive light.

Does it make sense to engage the issue abortion in a polarizing way? No. That doesn’t mean the issue of Life should be dismissed during campaign season. Life deserves its representation. If the opponent is into killing innocence on the campaign trail, then shove it down their #ing throats.

Speaking of abortion, Ryan’s debate performance was highlighted by his remarks on that topic.

Gays in the military must not be an issue either.

Soon they will change the rules to allow sex in the bunks, because that’s what gays are demanding.

And ObamaCare will get renamed.

They’re all “settled law” to the GOP RINO’s

Or severely Marxist. Choose your poison.

Let’s cut out the Marxist tumor in November, and then deal with the RINO malignancies in January.

I have little doubt of Mr. Ryan's position on that topic, but he will not be appointing the judges should Romney win.

But if Romney loses, we know who WILL be appointing SC Judges.

Abortion is always an issue. But not just because of the moral/ethical aspects. It is such a good litmus test of what a person is really about.

Whether a person is for or against abortion tells you whether they CARE about people or not.

Whether a person is for or against the ownership and carry of firearms tells you whether they TRUST people or not.

That’s why I simply will not vote for candidates who are pro abortion and anti-gun. It’s also why I will be voting for a 3rd party candidate for President in a few weeks. Those are two issues that I simply will not compromise on. Unfortunately willard has a checkered record on both.

Romney or Obama will be President.

Romney has promised to repeal 0bama’s executive order authorizing taxpayer fund to be used to pay for abortions overseas.

By that act alone the number of abortions will go down under a Romney Presidency.

The NRA has endorsed Romney as “the only hope of firearms freedom”.

So the only vote a real pro lifer/pro guns right voter can make is for Romney.

Anything else is merely clinging to sour grapes because your candidate of choice did not win the 2012 GOP nomination

His whole career he has been pro-abortion and anti-gun and we are supposed to believe campaign promises?

Welcome back!

“Anything else is merely clinging to sour grapes because your candidate of choice did not win the 2012 GOP nomination.”

Try again. I’m not a member of the gop. So I didn’t have a dog in the gop primary fight, although I did vote against willard in the open presidential primary which Virginia taxpayers have the misfortune of having to pay for. Fortunately, recent changes in the Virginia gop leadership make it less likely that primaries will be used in the future.

I’ll be voting third party because I’m a *conservative*, not because I deeply care which candidate the gop selects. If the gop had selected a conservative, I would be delighted to vote for him or her. Sadly, they didn’t. They chose the most liberal candidate amongst those running.
