So much for Joe Biden as the great white (dem) hope. There’s no one left to bail Obama out. Its all on him going forward.
I don’t quite ‘get’ the polling on this one. Condescending chortles, interuption, and talking over your opponent don’t equate to getting your ideas in front of the American public.
And, I reject the meme that Ryan was put on the defensive the entire night....the nature of the election automatically puts the current administration on the defensive.
Ryan did look nervous at times, and he left some things unanswered. I especially wished he would admonish Biden for repeatedly saying ‘you guys need to take responsibility’...for what? Romney hasn’t held elected office for years...and all these phantom cuts Ryan voted for never became law...because the senate hasn’t taken up a budget in years.
Oh well...but oddly, once again the American public has witnessed Barry’s penchant for letting other people do the hard work. The more the media shout about how great Joe did, the more we are reminded that Obama isn’t ready for prime time. Biden, Romney, AND Ryan have outperformed him.
Next debate Romney will have to combat the liberal plants not Obama. He better have great answers for Hobson’s Choice type questions like...”Mr Romney if my daughter was raped would you restrict her choices on what she wants to do with the baby..”. Obama is inconsequential, he is a bumbling, rambling idiot, this was proven last debate. The MSM will declare Obama the winner and Ben Franklins will be exchanged to the DUer plants afterwards.
I’m not sure that “winning” or “losing” the debate was what this one was about.
From my perspective, Biden’s job was to staunch the bleeding of the Kenyan’s campaign. If he’d have allowed Rep. Ryan a fair hearing, we’d be looking at a >55% - <44% race on election day, with the anti-Christ scoring fewer than 200 electoral votes.
So, the Dem objective was just to prevent Rep. Ryan from scoring the knock-out punch. They were also hoping to get lucky, and have Rep. Ryan react negatively toward the anti-Christ’s minion’s atrocious behavior. They didn’t get lucky; the next Vice President showed himself to be a man of nearly limitless patience. But Biden did achieve the primary objective: He prevented the knock-out punch.
By the same token, the first goal of the Romney/Ryan campaign was to guard against an outright loss. They knew that Biden would attack and try to provoke Rep. Ryan. They knew that Biden would try to simultaneously prevent Rep. Ryan from getting across his message while also trying to get him to behave uncivilly. The Romney/Ryan folks knew their primary objective was for Rep. Ryan to appear serious, personable, knowledgeable, and mature. For them, getting lucky would have been to be able to cut through all the nonsense they knew Biden was going to throw at them, and deliver the coup de grace. They achieved their primary goal, but didn’t get lucky.
Thus, the Dems have staunched the arterial bleeding of their campaign, and live to fight another day, but the Republicans continue in a favored position, unharmed by last night’s debate.
On balance, it’s a modest “win” for Gov. Romney and Rep. Ryan, in that the event mostly just firmed up the status quo, which right now, favors them significantly.
It is sort of a nice bonus that the creature Biden was revealed to all of America for the slimy disease that it is.
Biden looked a little... impaired during the debate. Was it just me or had our Vice President had a couple (or 6) before the debate?

The average voter does not have to have a degree in psychopathology to understand that something was wrong with Joe Biden last night. If the purpose of the debate was to determine which candidate was likelier to end up in a mental institution, Joe Biden won hands down. But if the purpose was to determine who would make a better vice-president of the United States, Paul Ryan had a decisive victory.
Joe was the drunk uncle last night. He acted as if the moderator was sitting on his lap, while he laughed. It was 2 against 1, but Ryan was still a gentleman.
Joe may have had the questions in advance and that is why he was laughing without much control.
Joe Biden is a complete and total ass, who doesn’t have the slightest concept of when he is making a fool of himself. I bet Raddatz wanted so bad to pass him a note or give him a high sign to “Turn off the teeth, Joe”. I also wonder if the people who were coaching Biden non-stop for the debate for the last week had any idea he was going to pull that crap at debate time. Seems like they must have thought of every possible way Joe Biden could make a fool of himself and drilled him on it.
Martha Raddatz lost the debate BIG TIME!!!!
The other loser was Joe Biden—he lost by default on his smirks and lies!
That leaves Ryan—the survivor by default—as the winner!

I think you’re right, they sacrificed Biden’s likability to prevent an all out win and the R/R campaign’s momentum from really taking off. Hoping that Biden’s likeability (or lack thereof) won’t ultimately rub off too much on Obama.
It’s a solid strategy on their part. They gave up on the chance to win in order to guarantee to not get blown out. But it was still a loss for them.

I'm a Christian conservative voter. Unfortunately, I saw Ryan as being out of his league last night. My concern is that many independents saw him the same way.

Quite apparent that Axelrod had a lot of input into Biden’s debate prep: short on facts - well, legitimate facts - and long on bully and diversion tactics.
