So, the Bush tax cuts will expire on Jan 1, 2013, and the Dims and the Republicans are miles apart on the solution. Here's what I think the Republicans ought to do immediately:
Announce to the American people that if the voters give them the White House and majorities in both Houses on November 6, 2012, they will do the following:
1) When they return to the Lame Duck session of Congress following the elections, they will agree to the Democrats' demand that they vote in favor of restoring the Bush tax cuts for what the Democrats are calling the middle class.
2) Then, the first act they will do after being sworn into office in January, 2013, will be to pass their bill to restore the Bush tax cuts as they were before January 1, 2013, effective retroactively to December 31, 2012, and send the legislation to President Romney for his signature.
Under Clinton, Congress passed a retroactive tax INCREASE, so a retroactive tax DECREASE is more than fair. Right?
I don’t think the Dims would be allowed to filibuster such a bill, if done right.
BTTT
We should never fall into the rhetorical traps that the Left sets for us: it always allows them to demagogue the issue by adding 3 words 'for the rich'. Using the accurate term 'rates' neutralizes leftist demagoguery.
Ah, yes. Good change. Thank you.
