DELAWARE, Ohio --
Two motorcycles that were part of the motorcade for First Lady Michelle Obama's campaign visit to Central Ohio collided Monday afternoon.
The crash occurred along state Route 37 and Old State Road when the motorcycles were riding in formation as part of the motorcade, police sources told NBC4.
The crash involved a Genoa Township Police officer and an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper as they were escorting the motorcade from Obama's event in Delaware to the airport.
According to authorities on the scene, a motorist had pulled off to the side of the roadway, and a motorcycle officer had pulled over to assist.
When the motorcycle moved, the second motorcycle didn't move out of the way, and the two clipped each other.
Genoa Township Chief Robert Taylor said his officer was thrown 50 feet after the crash.
The officers were hospitalized in stable condition and are expected to be OK.
The motorcade continued as the first lady made her way to Cleveland, which is standard operating protocol.
The road was closed until about 6 p.m. during the investigation and cleanup.
She’s got to keep those car windows closed...
The lengths people will go to stay away from her...
Comments 5 & 6. It looks like she got you too.
LOL, thread pulled in 3, 2, 1.....
I am not sure why this is a story.
If one of the officers hit the FL’s car, then I could see a story.
Certainly got me...........shiver..............
Certainly got me...........shiver..............
That is one of the questions I may ask a supreme being that I may or may not encounter at some point.
That is one of the questions I may ask a supreme being that I may or may not encounter at some point.
The answer may be..."Because they think they're Me."
It would likely prove to be educational to compare the historical levels of security for the movements of FLOTUS during previous administrations.
I’m thankful that there were no fatalities.
Lost a cop in FL earlier this year on a motorcade escort detail and a PA Trooper a few years ago, same circumstance.
No doubt about that, but why do the rest of us cooperate?
Michelle stuck her big feet out of the limousine causing the motorcycle to go airborne 500 feet.
Genoa Township Chief Robert Taylor said his officer was thrown 50 feet after the crash.
If he's was just moving out how did he get thrown 50 feet I've dumped my bike a few times the only time i was ever thrown 50 feet is when i hit a deer in the fog doin 40 miles an hour if you doing forty just pulling out you need lessons on riding badly !
