finally....3 hours and unable to get on this forum except to observe twice

what in the hell is going on?

are we being attacked by prog saps

or just lagging

it looked like at peak maybe 10-15 replies per minute

does that kill the forum?

all I can say is damn.

that debate thread was around 750 replies an hour into it on the live thread

this was worse than last time

i just don’t get it...our traffic is nothing like it used to be

so why now?

i can see why in 2000 it was so bad

it’s been 12 years...given freepathon snail pace and the dearth of old timers and the scarcity of massive Hobbitt type threads it sure looks like we are a faded version of before..so why do we overload so?

if it’s sappers then..well...but I’m still timing out at midnight

my download speed is 15-22mbps depending...not too shabby

I think there must be some regional differences in freepers’ ability to get on during a high-traffic night. I have had no trouble getting on or staying on or posting or refreshing quickly. I never do. I don’t know why I’m so blessed when freepers of far greater consequence, knowledge, and wisdom have trouble.

Tonight was a disaster for FR. I have no idea what the technical specs of the FR backend are, but something needs to be done. If the site was this bad tonight, can you imagine election night? Forget it.

Jim should look into to some additional capacity with one of the hosting services. They can spin up a few servers for a couple days then decom them when done.

From reading this thread and seeing multiples of the same post I'm guessing that part of the problem is posters hitting the post button more than once because they didn't think it went through the first time.

Of course, it's also that a lot of nonmembers are pinging the site too.

Watched it on C-Span live.
I'm on a pretty high speed line (15 down-8 up) here - everything else worked but no FR.

Hope it gets sorted out by the 3rd debate.

Just think what a coordinated handful of pizza-faced, occupacker, basement geeks could do;

They could wreak havoc simply by logging on, hitting the reply button and constantly refreshing the page but never actually posting anything...or some other similar prank.
