'Cooling Out' the Voters (Sowell on Obama)
Creators Syndicate ^ | October 30, 2012 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 10/29/2012 8:38:14 AM PDT by jazusamo

Confidence men know that their victim — "the mark" as he has been called — is eventually going to realize that he has been cheated. But it makes a big difference whether he realizes it immediately, and goes to the police, or realizes it after the confidence man is long gone.

So part of the confidence racket is creating a period of uncertainty, during which the victim is not yet sure of what is happening. This delaying process has been called "cooling out the mark."

The same principle applies in politics. When the accusations that led to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton first surfaced, he flatly denied them all. Then, as the months passed, the truth came out — but slowly, bit by bit. One of Clinton's own White House aides later called it "telling the truth slowly."

By the time the whole truth came out, it was called "old news," and the clever phrase now was that we should "move on."

It was a successful "cooling out" of the public, keeping them in uncertainty so long that, by the time the whole truth came out, there was no longer the same outrage as if the truth had suddenly come out all at once. Without the support of an outraged public, the impeachment of President Clinton fizzled out in the Senate.

We are currently seeing another "cooling out" process, growing out of the terrorist attack on the American consulate in Benghazi on September 11th this year.

” The White House had to know that it was only a matter of time before the truth would come out. But time was what mattered, with an election close at hand. The longer they could stretch out the period of distraction and uncertainty — “cooling out” the voters — the better. Once the confidence man in the White House was reelected, it would be politically irrelevant what facts came out.”

I think this story got “exposed” a bit earlier than the Obama Administration figured it would. Benghazi may not be exposed on the MSM, but this is 2012, and most people get their info from the internet, not the MSM. I believe most voters know the truth already.

From the time it took office, the Obama administration has sought to suppress the very concept of a "war on terror" or the terrorists' war on us.

Very true, and the stupid MSM has gone along with all of it. Glenn Beck's book An Inconvenient Book tells how Islam slowly rots away a society from the inside. It's already too late for France and probably Britain as well. The MSM here in the US is following lockstep the mistakes in those countries. It appears only Australia's got it right (i.e., "If you don't like our rules, leave.") The US needs to demand a more vigilant MSM and the only way to do it is to quit buying their papers and broadcasts until they do.

Yes, he and his thugs, which include the enemedia, thought they could put a lid on this until after the election but it hasn’t worked out that way thanks to the Internet and Fox News.

Of course many of his worshipers don’t know the truth because of that enemedia or just choose to ignore, but they’d vote for him no matter what.

Clinton set a very dangerous precedent by lying often and well and then getting away with it.

Watching him in action became like a spectator event where we then marveled at his audacity instead of taking him to task and punishing his indiscretions.

His example had wide ranging effects. For one, it made parenting much tougher when trying to teach a kid about honesty while the POTUS is lying and getting away with it.

Now, just as then, we still suffer from his example and our own lack of effort to hold him accountable.

Instead, we rewarded him for lying.

I think Obama knows he is toast. He lost the advantage of the so-called female vote, and evidently, is now losing the independents. We may be witnessing the end of the MSM monopoly
in this very election.

There's an article posted today, by Catherine Herridge that proves General David Petreaus lied in a briefing.

Wait'll Dr. Sowell reads about this!

The “cooling out” process -OR- cooking the truth...
Some americans(democrats) cannot stand the raw truth...
OH! and RINOs and other kinds of “turncoats”..

The raw truth can carry “Truthinosis”... that can make you outraged at lies..
The truth can rob you of “the benefit of the doubt syndrome”..”

BE CAREFUL: or you may end up being very very PISSED OFF..
** a condition most republicans HATE..

If this was true Barry would be down in the polls by McGovernesque numbers ... reality is that over 40% of the people are not paying attention at all.

I always blamed Tom Delay that Clinton got away with it. According to the constitution the house was supposed to deliver the articles of impeachment to the senate by noon the next day. They waited for months. I faxed Delay my disgust and never heard back from. And I lived in his district at the time.

Do not forget Senator John Glenn, the Counsel for the Defense, rewarded with a flight into space because NASA wanted to study the effects of space travel on the aged.

I believe most voters know the truth already.

I believe that you are mistaken. 80% of the public is sheeple. They refuse to admit that the pResident could ever want to harm the Republic. They go along not wanting to cause trouble or hear about trouble. They have a happy little world that they live in and don't want to be shaken out of their revere.

If 80% believed this, Romney would lose by a landslide. Don’t underestimate “flyover country”

Obama has the blacks, unions, welfare recipients, and the media and academia locked. That is a large group of people. He is not doing well outside of this block.
