Shoeshine stand torched in celebration
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 10/30/12 | C.W. Nevius

The I-am-so-thrilled-the-Giants-won-the-World-Series-that-I-want-to-set-something-on-fire compulsion is well recognized, if not well understood. Surely these firebugs realize they had no more to do with the victory than a local housecat.

Still, it happens every time there's a big win, so we should probably be pleased that it is mostly just trash bins and random bits of paper and wood. But there are also moments that make you wonder exactly what is wrong with people.

Among the objects set ablaze Sunday night was the shoeshine stand of Larry Moore, the dapper, homeless shoe shiner of Market Street. Moore's friend and benefactor, Loren Lopin, says he's been making just enough from his shine business to afford a bed in a weekly single-room-occupancy unit.

"I'm always amazed at how well-kept he looks," Lopin said.

But it is going to be tough to afford a bed now. Morons set the chair on his stand ablaze because ... well, there's nothing that says World Series celebration like burning down a homeless man's only source of income.

"I'm as happy as anyone to see the Giants win," Lopin said. "But I don't understand why they need to destroy property."

I still think our Reds “fell over” for those 3 games against the Giants...to allow them to advance to the pennant and then world series..

Wonder how much they were paid for doing so?? I figure at least 50M.

I mean ..c’mom—they ONLY needed ONE game—and the giants would have been sent HOME—instead of now being the WS winners!!

Being a Giants fan I naturally disagree, but I'm also a Yankees fan.
If it weren't for the multi-million dollar salaries, I'd bet a zillion dollars the Yankees purposely laid down against the Tigers.
Toss up between A-Rod and Cano for ringleader.

Nancy Pelosi voters. If they had any intelligence, she wouldn’t be in D.C.
Come to think of it, why are there homeless people in this Democrat haven?

Maybe some compassionate liberal could take up a collection to buy him a new stand, or just pay for it themselves. Oh, wait, never mind. Liberal charity involves someone else’s money.

Strange, it doesn't seem to happen in Texas. This seems to me to be more of a blue state/city thing.

Maybe the San Francisco Giants should offer to replace this mans stand. It would be extra bonus points for them if they also publicly admonished the rioters.
