Exasperation builds on Day 3 in storm-stricken NYC

In darkened neighborhoods, people walked around with miner's lamps on their foreheads and bicycle lights clipped to shoulder bags and, in at least one case, to a dog's collar. A Manhattan handyman opened a fire hydrant so people could collect water to flush toilets. "You can clearly tell at the office, or even walking down the street, who has power and who doesn't," said Jordan Spiro, who lives in the blackout zone. "New Yorkers may not be known as the friendliest bunch, but take away their ability to shower and communicate and you'll see how disgruntled they can get."

"Let me tell you something about humans, nephew: They're a wonderful, friendly people - as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working." "But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those friendly, intelligent, wonderful people...will become as nasty and as violent as the most blood-thirsty klingon." Quark from: The Siege of AR-558 (#7.8)" (1998)

Good quote: “I cannot believe the level of whining” one Democrat Party official as he entered a celebrity-studded party at a posh hotel near Times Square where the power is still on. “The President gave some wonderful photo-ops, hugged a lady at the airport and flew over to see the wreckage. What else can you expect?”

This may build to a crescendo by Sunday/Monday.

Why the exasperation, Manhattanites? Sandy’s given your president an opportunity to look “presidential”! Not what you expected?

One thing we haven’t seen is any mobs headed to the burbs. Maybe it hasn’t occurred to them yet.

Hey, call algore, Bloomie and the climate change folks who want to waste billions while filling their pockets on that hoax.

I feel very sorry for everyone stuck without power. It’s HORRID!

For the money they spent on “miner’s lamps” they could have bought a headlamp for cheaper and used the rest for food.

I kind of doubt they are wearing miner’s lamps.

Ok, I'll say it,

"Bush's fault."

I do hope the area will recover well, regardless.

I feel so badly for these people. Especially the ones with no transportation and no food and water stored up.

The food and water should start rolling in very soon. I hope they are using the coast guard.

The stereotypical New Yorker is not going to have a lot of patience with this disaster.

It is time for the brains of this country to learn how to deal with these disasters, and set up a plan. All the disasters seem to have a similar theme.

Hummm. I’m sure a lot of them laughed at doomsday preppers.

I'm a hardcore prepper. But lest we get too full of ourselves, remember the whole neighborhood that burned down. There could have been preppers located there and it didn't do them any good. Look to the Lord and don't laugh at our neighbor's misfortune.

My best friends husband was called into work at 2am Monday. He and his s-i-l have been pumping water in the city. It just rushes back in. 3 trucks have been swamped and are useless. He’s hoping to get home to sleep and eat sometime this weekend.
