Thanks for the reply, I hope that many people get their eyes opened about obama. They are all in my prayers.

My daughter and family live in Westchester County NY and they still do not have power. Luckily they are doing ok, survival mode.

<< FEMA is pretty worthless too . I have been in sooooooo many hurricanes and never seen them once but then I have always lived in a white middle class area >>

We have also been through many hurricanes. FEMA has never helped. But WalMart, that evil corporation, gave water and ice to everyone who came there. GAVE IT. Yes, you read that correctly.

this story needs to be told and retold....that thousands were left without power because the unions wanted it that way....

I'll bet the unions are all agaga about pulling in the overtime by extending the repowering process as long as they can....

talk about creepy ungodly people....

I've got a few questions about this story. For one thing, who owned the load that was being delivered? Were the truckers paid to bring this load to the city? If so, why would they even care if the recipient accepted delivery of the load? I'd go and dump the things in the Hudson River if I drove all the way from Michigan to NYC and some

In 1984-85 I drove for a trucking company that had bought out McGraw Edison's truck fleet. McGraw Edison is a huge manufacturer of transformers for utilities from pole mounts to slab mounts, substations etc.

The load would either be owned by the manufacturer or the recieving party depending on their purchasing contract. The driver gets paid usually for loads delivered. Meaning he needs paperwork. My guess is they were being paid. Most truckers in the USA especially ones hauling things like transformers are Non Union drivers. So that part would be true.

Secondly, the article refers to the driver in this story as an "independent trucker," but the story at the link says his boss told him to return to Michigan after he couldn't deliver the load.

You can be an Independent Trucker {AKA Owner/Operator and still haul for named trucking companies. That is very common. As for the transformers? Likely the truckers were from Michigan. But the transformers could come from McComb , Illinois, Zanesville, Ohio, Allentown, PA, etc where ever the plant was. I hauled transformers from the above stated places and even as far away as a McGraw Edison plant in Southeastern, Texas. I can't spell Nachadoishes, Texas LOL.

The one saying return to Michigan would be a Dispatcher the Independent was contracted with to haul loads.

I will say this. I loathed loads going into New Jersey or worse NYC. The people are OK but the Da** Rules and regulations aren't. Nor was accidentally going into Harlem at 1:00am LOL.

BTW they could have loaded in Michigan. There may be a plant up there also. I do find one thing odd. There is a major shipping Company near or right outside of Philly that handles considerable amounts of freight going into and out of New Jersey and NYC. That would be a likely drop place until the mess could be worked out. I used to drop trailers there and pick others up headed south or west so I doubt it's union labor either.

I will make this comparison. Whatever damage Katrina did to New Orleans....which had no union issues....you can figure twice the amount of time to restore New Jersey and New York compared to New Orleans.

I’ll also suggest that a quarter of the Staten Island population will pack up within four weeks and leave permanently. They will collect their insurance check....look at the lack of support, lack of power, and quotes to repair what they have left, and then just give up.

By spring of 2013, New York papers will grasp the population shift and ask political figures to respond. Nothing much can be said. The union guys? They helped to make this population shift possible. Look for Staten Island to become like Memphis in the next ten years....just a low-lying region full of crime and corruption.

WE don’t need your stinking transformers!!!!!!!!!”

“You’ve got to understand people’s frustration,” the mayor said. “They’re cold, they’re tired, they lost a lot. Sometimes we all get a little bit overanxious, if you will.” Nanny

Governor Cuomo offered to call up the New York National Guard. Bloomberg turned them down because “They Might Be Armed”!!!!!

This falls on Bloomberg-—again!!

Sorry for the late “thank you” to you. I just got to my computer at this hour.

It just kills me to see what these unions have done to our country over the years. Since they buy our crooked politicians, nothing will be done.

Thank goodness Panama finally has an honest president. He had never been in politics. Like Romney, he made his wealth in business and not through stealing. He is extremely rich and does not need “outside help.”

As a matter of fact, he gives his precedential salary to 3 charities. His VP also gives his salary away to a good cause.

Thank you again for your comments.
